I'm told that Ronald Reagan said, "Once a nation loses its freedom, it never regains it."
Two people I was sure would win were Allan West and Mia Love, two fine black conservatives. They both lost in close elections even though West outspent his opponent 5-1 and demonstrated what a pathetic creature he was.
Already the members of Conservative Inc., people who always keep their jobs no matter what happens, are announcing that Romney lost because he wasn't more like a Democrat. He lost because he didn't promise women free abortions and birth control, because he didn't promise Hispanics enough amnesty; because he went after white votes; because he didn't seem like "a man of the people". (True enough, that.)
What about the fact that he lacked "the vision thing"?
Obama had a vision. A stupid one, but a vision nonetheless. "Elect me again, and I will get you to the promised land this time around. It's right over there, see, and I'm the guy to finally get you to utopia -- in a while, some day, any day now, don't call it vaporware, upgrades will be coming, bug fixes are in the works, don't mind me, I really like playing golf and my czars can get it all done."
Romney's vision? "I'm a good businessman. Really. Trust me. I fixed the Olympics. Help me help you."
The power of the media. Voters believed that the economy was Bush's fault.
We keep saying (hoping, fingers crossed) that the power of the mass media is dying, but it's not. It just got Obama re-elected.

I live in a nation of morons, ignoramuses, fools, idiots, dolts, and a$$holes. What else is new? They know what side their bread is buttered on.
You go through your day, mingling with co-workers, talking to clerks at various stores as you do your errands, talking to the waitress at dinner or the person at the fast food joint taking your order and you think . . . life and people are pretty good. How friendly, helpful, and useful they all are.
You forget that people are being paid to be nice to you. They might be nice to you anyway, but communist societies show that service people aren't nice at all if they don't get paid to be or held accountable if not being nice.
No, everyday life seems to be made up of fairly decent folks going about their business like you.
But the fact is, they're mostly morons, ignoramuses, fools, idiots, dolts, and a$$holes; and have never had a profound thought in their entire lives.
Ah well, well, well. Such is life.

Bring on the Judgment Day!!!!!!

The hard fact that so far I've seen no commenter on this election mention is this: The universal franchise is what's killing the West, what's allowing pondscum to rise to positions of power and steal the labour, the hours and days of people's lives and the future of their children and distribute it to those who have no stake in the Republic beyond the next welfare check, the next handout.
We are paying for our own enslavement to the demands of unproductive leeches.
Either we end the universal franchise or we accept rule over us by the lowest common denominator--it's that simple.
Any future move by the GOP towards the "center" is a tacit admission of that ugly reality and an abandonment of any pretence to principle.
I'm afraid what KG says is completely true. Any serious person knew it would eventually happen and we were warned that there would come a time when the eaters would overtake the producers. When you allow people who live as takers to vote for someone who promises to pick their neighbor's pocket and share the spoils with them, the outcome becomes inevitable. Actually the outcome is just what we witnessed last night. The America I grew up in, the American I served gave up and died. The damage of the last 4 years coupled with the next 4 years will not be able to be undone. I, for one, will miss the America that once was.
KG is fundamentally correct. The "Red Pill" of life: The religion of equality is a false religion. Men are not born equal. Never have been born equal. Will never be born equal. Most all of the self inflicted wounds of the West flow from the evil of the false idol of equality.
The West is mortally wounded. It cannot be saved. It should not be saved. The best of the future lies beyond the bones of the West. Let the corpse rot and turn to dust.
Yes, KG is right, and I've been trying to make that point repeatedly around the blogosphere.
Democracy is not a stable form of government, and the Founders knew it. That's why they created a Republic instead.
Voting must be an earned privilege and not a right. The universal franchise will inevitably destroy us.
Oh wait; it looks like it already has.
