Love Wins, Again

There is an old saying, “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.”  Who wants to be on a losing team? I’m contemplating joining the “Love Wins” movement for two reasons.  First, because I think it’s uncannily prophetic that they chose the rainbow flag.   Secondly, I’m tired of being a denier – the correlation between same-sex marriage and climate change is so absolute I’m now convinced the left is right –global warming is inevitable.

Back when being “queer” was an act of rebellion, the Love Wins crowd could have foolishly chosen the Rebel flag as their banner.  It wasn’t that long ago that homosexuality was regarded as a mental illness, sinful, and a shameful lifestyle choice.  Back then, the Rebel flag would have been a logical emblem for their “bravery” in the face of such “bigotry.”  But now it seems like everybody’s gay - where’s the courage or rebellion when everybody’s doing it?   Frankly, today it would seem queerer if the homosexuals had selected the Rebel flag.  The rainbow flag is way more sagacious.

Who could have predicted such rapid social and legal transmogrification in such a short time?  Yet somehow they possessed the unmatched foresight to select the rainbow.  Imagine if they had selected the Rebel flag -- nobody would like them now, possibly even blaming them for instigating murder.  It’s also good because homosexual marriage is for winners, as President Obama reminded us "This ruling is a victory for America."  They’d have to trade the Rebel flag in for something representing victory.  After all, almost everybody knows that the Confederates lost (except most public school students).

So what is the promise, the symbolism, the significance of the rainbow?  Surely it is more than just sexy colors.  Perhaps the homosexuals chose the rainbow because of its mention in Genesis, the first book of the Bible.  As Moses records God’s word to man, “I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.  Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.”  The parallel is clear to me, I can vividly recall when Obama declared in his Democratic Party nomination in June 2008 that his presidency will be “the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.”    The rainbow is a commonsense choice since Obama has ensured we’ll no longer have a flooding problem.
Nonetheless, global warming remains a concern of Biblical proportion for the left, and well it should.  Also recorded in the book of Genesis is the history Abraham’s nephew Lot, and the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.  Not only was Sodom famous for its sodomy, but also for their localized incident of global warming.  Genesis records, Now the people of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the Lord.”  Nevertheless, God being merciful warned Lot, Hurry and get out of this place, because the Lord is about to destroy the city!”   Once Lot and his daughters reached a safe place, “the Lord rained down burning brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah… destroying all those living in the cities…”

Recognizing the coming climate change problem Peter rhetorically asks, “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?”  His answer, “You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.”  His closing thought on the matter, “Since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless…But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Yep, Love Wins.
