I’ve been reading some horrifying stuff lately. Just a day or so ago, I learned about a mother who killed her 11-month-old son rather than surrender custody to his father. Just a moment ago, I read about a North Dakota mom who cut her children’s throats. And of course, the news is full of the unexpectedly protracted Lindsay Clancy trial.
I’ve lived long enough to have seen a lot of horrifying stuff. I doubt I could have avoided seeing it. Our news media has long abided by a well-known maxim “If it bleeds, it leads.” And there are enough predators, filled with rapacity or lust, to commit any number of heinous deeds. To whatever extent we follow the news, we hear about them. We can’t help it.
But mothers killing their own children?
Could this be a counter-movement to the “traditional mother / homemaker” movement that’s been gaining steam these past few years? Is an evil force attempting to “restore the balance?”
Women tend to follow consensus to a greater degree than do men. Has a consensus arisen among women that murdering one’s kids is “the thing to do?” Or are we merely in a “node” in which maternal violence toward their children is temporarily well above the usual level?
I’m sure I’m not alone in noticing these maternal crimes. I’m equally sure that as a fraction of the homicidal total, motherly murders are vanishingly small. But I sense something trending.
Many women are unhappy about their lots in life, but that’s always been the case; many men are just as unhappy. Prior to our era, we didn’t hear about mothers killing their progeny nearly as often as we have been lately. That might be because our numbers have increased so greatly. Or it might be an artifact of more extensive, greatly intensified coverage; our news media have never been larger nor more attentive to events, especially the most lurid events. But it’s still something to ponder.
Mine is not a popular, well-heeded voice. Even so, I want to “do my part.” So allow me to make this clear:
Killing your children is evil.
There is no imaginable excuse for it.
If you begin to feel an urge toward filicide,
Get away from them and get help!
I have spoken.
As many others have said, killing one's children before an arbitrary point in time is called abortion and doing that at any point in the child's life up to and including the moment of birth is peachy keen and even celebrated - in some circles. So what's the difference? She's just a few years late.

OK, this twatwaffle Lindsay Clancy appears to be in a wheelchair in the courtroom, and something I read implied it wasn't just for show, but something that she did put her there. My question is if you were married to that twatwaffle, would you want to sleep next to that? Could you sleep comfortably next to the one that killed your children, after arranging to ensure you wouldn't be there to stop it? Could you even be in the same house?
I don’t see why you are surprised, Fran. Dismayed, yes. This is just the logical conclusion of the whole “pro-choice” argument. Their children were an inconvenience, so they eliminated them. The only real difference is age. These murdered kids were just a little bit older.
ReplyDeleteIt appears to me that women have been encouraged to kill their children for a long time via abortion. Then we hear that babies can be aborted until the moment of birth then shortly thereafter. Is this not just an extension of a new normal that you can kill them at anytime they become a burden. Gives new meaning to, "I brought you into this world and I can take you out."
ReplyDeleteFran, when I first heard about this case I was at first sad for the beautiful children who never will see another day due to their "mothers" actions. Then it turned to anger - anger at her, anger at those women defending her actions and anger at a society that would allow it to all happen.
ReplyDeleteI have come to the conclusion that evil exists in all forms. Those who are evil need no excuse to commit heinous acts - they come naturally to them. This woman has evil eyes - just an observation. Her excuse to blame doctors (yes there is some blame) for her actions is specious at best and an abomination to most of us. There is NO excuse for what SHE DID! She admitted the acts and deserves to suffer the consequences. I don't know if they have the death penalty but if so she is a good candidate for it.
This trial should be an example of how badly our moral fiber has been destroyed by godless evil bastards whose only goal is self. Mothers are the most wonderful people on this earth - there I said it. I loved my Mother and miss her every day. These babies will never have that sentiment and that is the worst crime of all.
Evil exist because even when it's been identified beyond any doubt we refuse to kill it.
