  1. Haven't watched the video yet, but I've heard the audio already. Yes, both ''the NBC edit'' and the ''raw'' versions.
I want to bring up something I saw on an economics blog today:
Robot Wars in China; Burger Flipping Robots Serve 360 Gourmet Burgers an Hour
. The blog's author is one of those who tend to have a rose-colored glasses ''gee whiz'' view of tech.
However in the post he mentions this:
''Most of the jobs will never return, and millions more are likely to vanish as well, say experts who study the labor market. What's more, these jobs aren't just being lost to China and other developing countries, and they aren't just factory work. Increasingly, jobs are disappearing in the service sector, home to two-thirds of all workers.

    They're being obliterated by technology.''
The question becomes, as those jobs disappear (and they are, and will) what becomes of the people who become ''obsolete''? And even worse those that already are. Watch this video (NSFW, but not pornographic or particularly violent). What is to be done with these ''people''? ''Training/Education''? To what (and the phrase ''trying to teach a pig to sing'' comes to mind)? ''Jobs''? To do what? Even the stoop farm labor their ancestors did as slaves have long since disappeared. I see the children in that video as either smaller versions of those ''hoodrats'' giving birth to many more in 10-15 years (female) or gangbanging/prison (male). So far the ''solution'' has been Affirmative Action for both private and government jobs, but those are dwindling as well (think Post Office) and the odds that they will become successful entertainers (such as pro sports) is about the same as winning powerball. Prisons? To put it quite bluntly there are many more sardines than there are cans for them. Food for thought, hmm?

  2. In California, we have no declared state right to own and bear arms. All we have is this Section that begins the declaration of rights:

SECTION 1. All people are by nature free and independent and have
inalienable rights. Among these are enjoying and defending life and
liberty, acquiring, possessing, and protecting property, and pursuing
and obtaining safety, happiness, and privacy.

It says we may defend life and protect property, but it doesn't really mean it since various codes regarding the ownership and use of firearms or weapons are severely restrictive.

Great video, though. Too bad the truth and Rights mean nothing to lawmakers.

  3. Mark, rights are not declared. They are not subject to interpretation by weanish little people in jedi robes.
Please see The Woodpile Report blog, Remus has a very nice post up today on how rights are mis-interpreted.

  4. LFM,

I agree with you. That's the wording of the Cal Constitution - Declaration of Rights.

Rights are inalienable Truths in accordance with Natural Law, that is, from God.
