The vital necessity for there to be a moderate Islam.

You won’t find the fabled land of moderate Muslims in the east. You won’t even find it in the west. Like all myths it exists in the imagination of those who tell the stories. You won’t find a moderate Islam in the Koran, but you will find it in countless Western books about Islam.

Moderate Islam isn’t what most Muslims believe. It’s what most liberals believe that Muslims believe.

The new multicultural theology of the West is moderate Islam. Moderate Islam is the perfect religion for a secular age since it isn’t a religion at all.

* * * *

An early generation of Western leaders sought the affirmation of their national destinies in the divine. This generation of Western leaders seeks the affirmation of their secular liberalism in a moderate Islam.

Even if they have to make it up.

Without a moderate Islam the Socialist projects of Europe which depend on heavy immigration collapse. America’s War on Terror becomes the endless inescapable slog that the rise of ISIS has once again revealed it to be. Multiculturalism, post-nationalism and Third World Guiltism all implode.

Without moderate Muslims, nationalism returns, borders close and the right wins. That is what they fear.[1]

Getting a handle on liberal pathology is a lifetime commitment. But falter for a second and one is plunged back into the giant sensory deprivation experiment that modern Western life is. "Self-hating" has never resonated with me as a way to describe liberal’s destructive beliefs. In the absence of their knowledge of a long list of actual personal transgressions, I don’t think people are wired to hate themselves. However, "neurotic," "intellectually dishonest," or "gutless" come closer to describing a situation where otherwise intelligent people refuse to see or acknowledge what is plain to see, whether neurotically or willfully.

Solzhenitsyn said, "Live not by lies." But the "socialist projects" have always degenerated into enterprises maintained by suppression of the truth, first with admonition then with intimidation then with legal abuse then with violence. Sweden leads the way in pure, lunatic, NKVD malignity.[2]

So the need for a moderate Islam is part of a larger picture – the necessity of keeping the socialist madness on track, regardless of the countless people on the track waving warning flags. Suicidal fools talk about multiculturalism and economic, political, and historical illiterates talk about how socialism and communism just haven’t been implemented by the right people. The payoff in the short term is the continuation of a life of parasitism financed by productive fellow citizens or hostile or indifferent foreigners being exploited for their cheap labor.

Mr. Greenfield has an absolutely brilliant insight here. Par for the course with him, it seems. I’m sure he would agree that what he describes is an aspect of the problem illuminated by the witticism that it’s useless to try to convince someone of something if his job depends on his not "knowing" that something.

People can adhere to articles of faith because they (1) maintain their political or social position, (2) safeguard redistributionist scams, or (3) serve a neurotic need. The first two are self evident. I list the third item based on having been acquainted with a pleasant, intelligent woman whose thoughts on homeless people in D.C. sleeping on steam grates in the winter seemed to reveal a powerful subconscious identification with them. She, a highly-paid lawyer, appeared to identify instantly and completely with the men. That could be she on the grate in an instant and nothing should interfere with any expenditure of public money or creation of any public program that would alleviate their misery. She was an ardent liberal and she illustrates the neurotic aspect of preposterous liberal beliefs, of which multiculturalism, "affordable socialism," and commendable cowardice are a part.

  1. Moderate Islam. Peace and safety. Abomination.
Iman descending down from the second heaven.
Trying to happen. Do not know if that is now, but the strong delusion part seems to be working.

  2. Agreed on the delusion part. Terminal case.

What is the "imam descending from the second heaven" reference, please?

  3. There really is a moderate Islam. It's called the Bahai Faith and it is decent, peaceful and accepting of other beliefs. They are headquartered in Israel.

    Most Muslims hate them.

  4. Dystopic, there's nothing on their web site that indicates that it's a variant or offshoot of Islam.

  5. There is no "moderate Islam" The orthodox Islam - within which abrogation overrules the early more "peaceful pronouncements of Mohammed, replaced with the later demands to kill, behead, enslave; with the stoning, wife-beating, child molesting, bestiality supporting tenets - states that a "moderate Muslim" (did such a one exist) would be an apostate, and thereby subject to death.

Moderate Islam is a fiction, a product of taqqiya, spoken of and supported by muslims until such time as they comprise sufficient numbers to begin killing those "moderates" with impunity, and to remove their sheep's clothing and proclaim they were just kidding.

And those who would submit (the true definition of the word "Islam" is "submission", not "peace" ;-) are beheaded or killed even after they have proclaimed "There is no God but Allah, and Mohammed is his prophet."

  6. Col. B. Bunny: That's intentional. If you read their history, you will find that they grew out of a Shia Islamic movement in Iran, back in the 1800s, but they consciously rejected the violent streak inherent in Islam.

Muslims decided to kill them for it (most of them were kicked out of Iran or killed), and so Bahais have no great love for Muslims and sought to distance themselves from their Islamic roots. Probably a good thing from a PR perspective, I suppose.

  7. Mr. T, 100% correct. Erdogan laid it out about how there's no such thing as moderate Islam, just Islam.

Thanks, Dystopic. I know the Iranians persecute the Bahai. I can understand the B willingness to distance themselves from Islam. I'll keep an eye out for evidence of that faith's having had Islamic roots. After saying Mohammed is but one of many prophets you've pretty much left Islam in the rear view mirror and the rest of it is just detail.

The sad part of it all is the universal Islamic devotion to the death penalty for apostasy. But for that there would be as much theological diversity (much as I hate that word) in Islam as in Christianity.

The Sufis are sometimes seen as a more moderate sect of Islam but I recall reading that that's wrong. They're just as bloodthirsty as the rest. Or, should I say, their beliefs do not prevent them from the usual killing as the need arises. I could be wrong.
