If This Goes On

An early Robert A. Heinlein novella with the above title described an American theocracy that was eventually brought down in a violent revolution. I have no idea whether the young Heinlein was subject to influences that might have predisposed him to believe that such a future was probable. However, the Afterword to his collection Revolt in 2100, in which that novella appeared, suggests that he did think it plausible at least.

No, that future didn’t arrive. Instead, the United States has turned in the opposite direction: secular and hedonistic. But Heinlein wasn’t the only writer to explore the idea of an American theocracy. Michael Flynn, whose work has often been compared with Heinlein’s, sketched such a future in his The Nanotech Chronicles. If he was guided by presentiments like Heinlein’s, he gave no indication of it.

As usual, I’m sort of skirting my point here, so I’ll put it right out in the open:

Many trends are merely mental artifacts.

One can “assemble” such a “trend” by choosing what to look at and what to ignore, which your detractors will call “cherry-picking” the news. However, the counterpoised effect is just as important:

Many who deny a trend simply refuse to see it.

And inasmuch as some trends are pretty BLEEP!ing scary, the urge to take refuge in I-don’t-see-it denial can be very strong.

The previous 250 words are prefatory. I see a trend in motion. It’s beginning to look to me like an avalanche. And I don’t like what it portends. But I’ll allow that I could be wrong; it’s the absolute requirement of intellectual honesty. In fact, I want to be wrong. So in reading what follows, please, Gentle Reader, do your best to:

  • Refrain from an emotional response;
  • Focus on the available data;
  • If you don’t see it, tell me so and why.

     We begin.

The day had worn him down. His prior case, the fifty-seventh since he’d reached his desk that morning, had just been dragged weeping from the office, but he could not rest. He was behind his quota. The ships were already behind their sailing schedules. He had to plow onward.
He pressed the button on his phone console that signaled to the pen outside that he was ready for his next case. The green indicator light over his office door went dark and the yellow one lit. Barely a minute had passed when the door opened and two husky guards brought him number fifty-eight. As they closed the door behind them, the yellow light above it was extinguished and the red one lit.
This one was female. She looked aged beyond her natural count of years, though the stress of the upheavals could do that to anyone.
The guards sat her none too gently in the restraint chair, secured her shackles to the chair’s hard points, and laid her paperwork on his desk before stepping back to line his office doorway. He reviewed the short description of her status and noted the contents of the check box. He’d seen it checked fifty-three times that day. This made fifty-four.
She’ll have two options. No others.
He steeled himself and faced her squarely. She seemed unable to meet his gaze.
“Have you been informed about what happens here...” He glanced at her form again. Her given name was one of the trendy sort that he found too challenging to pronounce. “...Miss Jones?”
She shook her head, but remained mute.
“I’m your routing officer. You and I have the responsibility for determining the next stage of your life. I’m constrained by the law, but you will have a choice, though your choices are rather limited. The person who limited them was you.”
He picked up the form and waved it at her. “Do you know what this paper says about you?”
She sniffed and shook her head.
“Were you given a chance to read it?”
     “Can’t read,” she said.
“Then I’ll read it to you. ‘Miss Jones is 34 years old and a single mother of two sons. Son Tyrell was killed at age 18 during a police raid of a crack den. Son James was serving a life sentence for a gang-related murder when the Sterilization Orders came down. He was 16 at the time of his execution. Miss Jones has never been self-supporting. She tests positive for cocaine, syphilis, and hepatitis B.’”
He looked directly into her eyes. “Do you deny any of that?”
     She would not answer.
“Miss Jones, if I go by what’s on this paper, your future will not be a happy one. And I have to go by it unless you can convince me that what it says is not true.”
“Can’t,” she said at last. “It’s right. Never got married. Got by on the welfare. My boys was bad asses. Baddest in the hood.” Her eyes rose to meet his at long last. They flashed in challenge. “Ain’t gonna cry over it. Any of it.”
She thinks she’s hard. Maybe she is. She should hope so.
“Miss Jones, if all this is true, then under the Separation Edicts, there are only two places you can go when you leave this room.” He rose and pointed toward his eastward window. Her gaze followed his gesture and lit on the giant ship that stood waiting in the harbor.
“That,” he said, “is an exile ship. It’s one of your choices. If you choose it, it will take you to another continent, a place where you’ll be set free to live out your life as best you can. There are no whites there, no courts or prisons, and no welfare, either. And very little that you’d recognize from your life here in America.”
She looked out at the giant vessel, plainly uncomprehending. Before the upheaval it had been a cargo carrier. On every trip it had ferried two hundred thousand tons of cargo in steel containers, each one filled with some item the residents of other lands valued, across the breadth of the Atlantic Ocean. Its holds had been refitted as row upon row of barred cells. Its next journey would convey ten thousand exiles to their new homeland. They would next see sunlight, if they saw it at all, when they debarked on the west coast of Africa, in the land that had once been called Liberia.
Most of those exiles had been personally guilty of nothing. They’d merely abetted a race war. Some had promoted hatred of whites. Others, by their promiscuity and negligent parenting, had produced generation upon generation of parasites and violent predators. Still others had done nothing but subsist on the handouts of a too-generous society, indolently declining to add to its riches.
Twenty-three of them had declined to board the ship.
     Far too many of them.
“Are you willing to board that ship, Miss Jones?”
She glowered at him sullenly. “Ain’t gettin’ on no ship.”
“I see. Well, you do have another choice, but I can’t recommend it.” He nodded toward the door to the right of his desk. “It goes through that door.” He started to describe what took place on the other side of the door, stopped himself.
It might be better if she didn’t know.
“Would you like me to tell you about that second choice, Miss Jones?”
She sneered and looked away. “Ain’t gettin’ on no ship.”
“I need an answer, Miss Jones. Will you board, yes or no?”
     She shook her head.
     I suppose that’s good enough.
He nodded to the guards. They released her shackles from the restraint chair and stepped back.
“Then whenever you’re ready, just step through that door and close it behind you. You’ll be given instructions about what to do next.”
She gave him one more contemptuous sneer and shuffled to the second door. The three men watched in silence as she stepped through it. As she closed it behind her, the green phase indicator above it went dark and the yellow one lit. A moment later the yellow gave way to red. The red light glowed for perhaps a minute before going out.
     Twenty-four.
“Sir?” one of the guards said. “Why didn’t you tell her?”
He grimaced. “I thought it might be kinder this way.”
The guard frowned. “Maybe.” He glanced out at the exile ship. “It sure as hell ain’t gonna be kind for them.” They stepped out the door through which they had entered.
He lowered his face into his hands.
I volunteered. I understood the necessity. I still do. But it’s harder than anything I’ve ever done.
Colonel John MacKenzie had led troops into battle. His battalion had been the first into Monrovia, and had led its pacification. He’d killed men who’d been trying their best to kill him. He’d weathered it all and had come home to a wife who loved him unreservedly despite it all...who refused to let him doubt himself.
The men I killed were armed. They went to war knowing the risks. Miss Jones wasn’t armed with anything worse than her attitude.
He felt his tears rising again and sternly shoved them down.
Those are for the men I led who died in honorable combat. Not for the Miss Joneses of the world. They brought this upon themselves even if they were too dull to know it.
He pressed the button that would bring him number fifty-nine.

#
MacKenzie reached his billet barely able to draw a breath. Estelle awaited him at the front door, as always. His condition was plain to her. She wrapped her arms around him and pressed him to her before he could step over the lintel.
“I love you,” he muttered against her shoulder. Despite his efforts, a single deep sob escaped him.
She stroked his hair and said nothing.
Presently he said. “Mark Thorsten killed himself.”
“I know,” she said. “I spent most of the day with Pam.” A pause. “She wasn’t surprised. She said...she said she saw it coming. John, will she be all right?”
He looked at her in puzzlement. “Was she all right when you left her?”
She frowned. “You know what I mean.”
He grimaced. “I don’t know, Eppie. I hope so. If I hear anything to the contrary, I’ll...I don’t know. This is a first.”
She nodded. “For all of us. How many today?”
     “A hundred twenty-six.”
“How many...” Her voice caught briefly. “...for the other door?”
“Forty-seven.” He shuddered. “I stopped telling them, Eppie. After the first twenty-three I just...stopped. I figured it would be kinder that way.”
Her expression was as understanding and accepting as always. She nodded.
“Would you like to, to get out for the evening?” he said. “We could go to—”
She shook her head. “I’d rather stay home with you. Just in case Pam...you know.”
     “Yes,” he said. “I know.”
He took her hand, marveling afresh at the contrast between the lightness of her palm and the smooth jet of the opposite side. He brought that palm to his lips and kissed it tenderly.
What a marvel. She knows what’s happening, and accepts it. She knows what I’ve been assigned to do, and accepts it. She doesn’t know why I and the others were chosen for this duty, yet she accepts it. She does know that except for having married me, she would be in that pen, awaiting her own disposition...and accepts it.
“You’re my lifeline,” he said. “My tether to sanity in an insane time. Without you, I might do what Mark did.”
She smiled sadly. “I know. It’s why you were chosen.”
     He peered at her. “Huh?”
“Hadn’t you thought about it?” she said. “The Army has plenty of colonels. Some of them would enjoy doing what you do.” She stroked the sides of his face. “I’m the guarantee that you won’t...because you can’t.”
“You do know,” he said wonderingly.
“I always did, John. General Lapierre told me. Let’s have some dinner.”
She took his hand and led him to their kitchen.

Think it won’t happen, Gentle Reader? Think it can’t happen?

I must disagree. It’s drawing nearer all the time. The indicators have never shone more garishly:

  • Trayvon Martin.
  • “Bryce Williams.”
  • Ferguson, Missouri.
  • Baltimore, Maryland.
  • The “knockout game.”
  • The New Black Panthers.
  • Black illegitimacy at 69%.
  • ”Flash mobs” of black teens.
  • Black racialists openly inciting violence against whites.
  • The many outbreaks of black-on-white violence chronicled by Colin Flaherty.
  • And the rising tide of sentiment among normally peaceable whites that we have had enough.

If it happens, it will be horrible beyond measure. I don’t want it to happen. I fear it greatly. More people will die than have died in all of America’s wars together. But neither my fears nor anyone else’s will prevent it. Only a massive outbreak of good sense among American Negroes, most especially the willingness and determination to discipline their own and accept the verdicts of the judicial system when that discipline fails, can stave off the racial cleansing of the United States: the Separation Edicts and Sterilization Orders of the little story above.

“Bryce Williams” described himself as a “powder keg.” His focus was wrong; it’s America that’s the powder keg. His murders seem to me to bring the match very close to the fuse. We can’t have much time or many chances left to avert the explosion.

If I’m wrong, tell me I’m wrong...but tell me why. Convince me.

     And pray.

  1. Hope you're wrong and so do you. There are some great black minds beginning to step forward so there is that.

  2. I want to tell you that you're wrong -- almost desperately so. But for every reason I can conceive of that you're wrong, I see all too many reasons to come to the opposite conclusion.

  3. That future requires organization and rigid discipline. I don't think it'll come about, at least not on a national level.

The US will break into pieces before that happens. Instead of a separate continent, they'll just dump the exiles over the new wall into the neighbouring territory.

  4. "It’s drawing nearer all the time."

Of course it is. Anyone with sense can see it.

It will be horrible. But we'll have to choose whether to continue supporting a minority people who make war upon us the majority, and utterly wiping them out in battle. Diminishing resources and increasing violence in the Democrat-controlled zones will force the choice sooner rather than later.

  5. As I like to say, men intend the natural consequences of their acts. So, what are those consequences?

Blacks had an extraordinary opportunity to pull themselves up and advance with the generous assistance of whites. Ever since the first day of the "Civil Rights Revolution," however, blacks have chosen parasitism, crime, evasion of responsibility, clowns and communists for their elected representatives, a disgusting mass culture, and unrelenting hatred of whites.

"Shucking and jiving" covers a lot of territory where the white experience of blacks is concerned and there is nothing, N-O-T-H-I-N-G is on the radar that indicates that this trend line is bending backward and down.

Whites fleeing black pathology are meeting whites coming the other way fleeing the same thing. To have your neighborhood turn heavily black means it is certain that your and your family's life is about to be nightmare of assault, abuse, theft, home invasion, stray bullets, gangs, drugs, refuse, and housing decay.

The passivity of whites so late in the game is hard for me to understand but, judging from the tone of many web comments I read, I conclude that there is now a great deal of white rage at how our country has been turned into a cesspool. "Diversity" means nothing more than "destruction of a great country." That lie is visible for all to see.

To jeering, inattentive blacks everywhere I say, "Keep it up, you all. You just keep it up, hear."

  6. All I can add is this.Quotes from a great movie but oh so relevant,I mean it is just down right spot on.

    Orcs ,blacks what’s the diff.

Theoden: A great host, you say?
    Aragorn: All Isengard is emptied.
    Theoden: How many?
Aragorn: Ten thousand strong at least.
    Theoden: [astonished] Ten thousand?
Aragorn: It is an army bred for a single purpose: to destroy the world of men. They will be here by nightfall.
    Theoden: Let them come.

[the army of Isengard starts charging at the walls of Helm’s Deep]
    Theoden: So it begins.

Theoden: When last I looked, Théoden, not Aragorn, was king of Rohan.

Theoden: I will not risk open war.
Aragorn: Open war is upon you whether you would risk it or not.

Theoden: So much death. What can men do against such reckless hate?
Aragorn: Ride out with me. Ride out and meet them.
    Theoden: For death and glory.
Aragorn: For Rohan. For your people.
Theoden: The Horn of Helm Hammerhand will sound in the deep, one last time!

Theoden: Crops can be re-sown, homes re-built. Within these walls… we will outlast them.
Aragorn: They do not come to destroy Rohan’s crops or villages. They come to destroy its people. Down to the last child.
Theoden: What will you have me do? Look at my men. Their courage hangs by a thread.

Theoden: Where is the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? They have passed like rain on the mountain, like wind in the meadow. The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow. How did it come to this?

  7. Arthur made my point above -- the secrecy necessary would make the project as you described it out of the question.

I'm curious why you describe America as a powder keg. Are many of your white neighbors expressing resentment about black violence? No one in my middlebrow, non-conservative social circles mentions it, but perhaps that's because I'm in a very white area near Portland OR, a relatively white city. The only place I hear about continuing violence toward whites is on the internet and in news from cesspools like Baltimore.

  8. I see that future as one which would be appropriate, given the state of affairs we face today. As others have already indicated, I don't believe it will happen unless we find ourselves on the other side of two occurrences: 1) we survive the conflict with our own government which conservative lovers of liberty and a Republic which completely supports the rights of the individual over the collective are currently facing, and 2) find the strength and _unity_ within our own ranks to choose such a method of dealing with the problem. To many of the Libertarians we might otherwise ally ourselves with, rooting for "open borders" includes this group which chooses race over being American.

Thomas DiLorenzo has written of Lincoln's documented desire to have all blacks shipped to Liberia. Certainly, it would be an excellent place to send all of our _African-Americans_, who seem to value being African more than being American. Frankly, I doubt it would be advisable to even give them a choice such as you describe. Why should we suffer the pain of sleepless nights over the termination of a disease, simply because we value life more than they do? Easier to ship them to Liberia.

We have lost control of our own government, so I don't see it as a possibility. However, if it _were_ possible, I would submit that it must be extended to the muslims in our midst, as well. Although I think the world would be a better, safer place if we gave muslims no choice beyond Door #2. We have only to recall how long they have been trying to subjugate non-muslims by the sword and by fire.

And as far as the primarily Hispanic illegal aliens, I would vote for Door #1 for the first crossing, with Door #2 the only option for a second offense. I have known a good number of (mostly) Mexicans who have become legal resident aliens and citizens who like being Americans. The illegals and the La Raza crowd - and their gringo supporters and enablers - should be expelled.

  9. It does my heart good to read that excellent article, and the comments above. Yes, what you're predicting is terrible, and we all hope it won't come to that, but the rising awareness of what is coming is encouraging. Because the alternative to your scenario is, in my view, worse: nothing less than The End Of The World As We Know It.*

You say: Only a massive outbreak of good sense among American Negroes, most especially the willingness and determination to discipline their own and accept the verdicts of the judicial system when that discipline fails, can stave off the racial cleansing of the United States:

We all know that's not going to happen. If negroes as a race were constitutionally capable of that discipline, they would have shown it by now, somewhere in the world, sometime. They haven't. It's twenty years since the OJ Simpson trial; the judicial system is no more capable of managing the problem of black crime (and black juries) than it was then. No, there will be no turning this engine.

Your projected resolution may seem unthinkable to some, now, but I have two Axioms of History:

    1. The unthinkable happens.

    2. It can turn on a dime.

I definitely see racial conflict in America's (and Europe's) future, and Balkanization. It's better to be prepared than clueless.

    * On second thought, the end of the world as I knew it has already happened. I certainly don't recognise the world I'm living in. But you know what I mean; the fall of Western civilization, and White extinction.

  10. Sorry. I see it the other way. I believe it is a very few whites, clinging to their guns and blogs, who will board ships and leave.

We know that those who volunteer for our military are mostly motivated by patriotism and idealism. But that is changing. One can look at the pictures of warriors forced to wear women's high heels, or read about chaplains forced out of the military or forced to teach diversity above all.

Fran, as you and others look at the media narrative, the politics, Academia, the news and culture, you seem to conclude, "These hooligans don't know what they're messing with. They shall reap the whirlwind."

I look at the same and conclude, "It's gone. Even my wife and daughter watch MSNBC or tout the courage or "right-thinking" of gays, transgenders, social justice warriors and what were, in an earlier time, called misfits."

Misfits have become rallying points. Hatred by diverse groups has become proof of the need for diversity. Al Sharpton resonates with far more people than Ben Carson - or at least that is what will be broadcast.

Patriots will be portrayed as the guy with bad teeth and an evil laugh that appeared in the movie, "The Patriot." Sure, he had some good points, but MSNBC (and even the movie) says, "you really wouldn't want to live with him, would you?" And when his son and wife were killed by the evil and inexorable enemy, he gave up and killed himself.

The America that visited devastation and woe upon our enemies in WWII and then had the fortitude, wealth and moral certitude to stay and help the Japanese, Germans and the rest of Europe is GONE.

You, Ann Barnhardt and several of your fellow bloggers and their compatriots will have the gristle to fire on American troops and police carrying out "illegal orders." Most will not.

For myself, I don't know what Waco or Ruby Ridge were. The narrative was written by the Clinton administration. That is what will happen in the coming revolt. You will be tarred 24/7 by 90% or more of the media/culture/administration as racist, delusional haters. You will have great moments of nobility, grace and sacrifice and almost no one will know.

And you will cling to that "almost." It'll all seem worth it if a few "remember."

Wrong. You'll be dead and the few who remember will be orders of magnitude weaker than you are now. Yes, in the long history of the world, sooner or later "this will pass." But your "stand" and sacrifice won't be the catalyst.

Entropy and history will be. (Yes, every little mote is part of the bigger picture. There are other options.)

So. Why not go now? Granted, we can't be Spooners and waltz off to another planet just yet. But even your own novel-arc pointed out that everything is sort of a delaying of human nature. So why not delay the apocalypse and go somewhere else for a decade or 6?

Where? For a while people were saying go to New Hampshire and make it Conservative. But that's too close. New Zealand? Haiti? (I think Haiti officially threw off slavery in the 1820s, but it is probably at least as far removed from its history as America seems to be.)

    Australia? Taiwan?

I don't know. But SOMEWHERE. Because if the conflagration comes in the next 10 years and we try to stay here, it is NOT going to turn into the bloodbath of blacks, leftists and fools you imagine. It is going to be the French revolution writ large and broadcast 24/7 to the reality TV fans and they are going to cheer the demise of everything you hold dear while eating KFC on food stamps.

Proof? Look no further than the morphing of facts into "hatefacts."

We lost. It's time to go somewhere else.

  11. Sadly I must agree. Unfortunately our education system has produced a vast horde of squishy liberal whites who refuse to believe that there is a good percentage of blacks who don't give a rip about their political or social inclinations and hate them because they are white. Sadder still neither group can grasp that constitutional government is not a pact for suicide by altruism. It comes down to failure. If only we had enshrined Ben Franklin's words in the Constitution. "The greatest disservice we can do the poor is to make them comfortable in their poverty." If only the same could be applied to ignorance. As it stands moral relativism will prove the death of reason and the republic.

  12. Basically, I agree with furball, cynic (realist?) that I am. EXCEPT - there is no place to go.

Consequently, in spite of fervently wishing Fran's story could be realized, I believe this is what we will actually face:

"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival."

"There may be even a worse fate. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than live as slaves."

  13. You are correct, but not just about the negros. Think of the whites which are protecting, inciting, and helping the problem childs. They to are being identified and tracked.

  14. Fifty-one years, two and one-half generations, and the "black community" is no better off. Welfare, set-asides, the lowering of standards for college admissions, and nothing to show for it...except more demands. BILLIONS of dollars have been wasted and hundreds of thousands of White lives lost. Tens of millions of White people are totally "tapped out" of any concern for this failed group. There is only one solution and it's not going to be pleasant for anyone. Unpleasant, but necessary.

  15. Increasing tech is going to lead to large protected private spaces in which most of us will be "bowling alone". We are already increasingly educating our children at home and private. The cognitive deficients will continue to live on public largesse made possible by the time improving tech (robots, 3d printing, mini nuclears, fracking, self driving/delivering trucks, etc). I hope that genetic/medical tech will solve the problem of cognitive deficiency as well. The technology innovations are coming at an increasing RATE, so it is hard to predict the outcome.

  16. The race-related rot runs deep and diverse. There are generations of whites raised believing King (and later Mandela) to be the greatest of men, if not gods in human form. They believe with an absolute religious conviction that whites - may not they, themselves, and few close friends - are inalterably evil.

Those ships to Liberia, and the line going through the door, will not be monochromatic.

  17. My foggy little crystal ball says, civil war, genocide and the partitioning of the landmass by racial groups after a period of economic collapse.

I do not see whites implementing a "final solution". We seem to prefer doing it the hard way.

  18. I am going to argue simply because I am in a contrary frame of mind tonight.

Fractals and Julian sets suggest that minor changes can have enormous consequences when applied through multiple iterations. The key is to identify and implement some of those changes in the social setting.

I propose that we use the Chinese model of incarceration. The FAMILY must pay the "hotel bill" and the cost of the investigation. And in the event of capital punishment, they pay the cost of the bullet and the time it takes to pull the trigger.

This seems like a natural outgrowth of "it takes a village to raise a child." Society should demand a refund when the village fails. A conviction of any felony assesses a penalty against the "entitlements" bequeathed to that zipcode.

One reason that the Chinese model works is because families do not tacitly support their dysfunctional members malfeasances. In fact, they actively make every effort to stop them. And in the event that their wayward choirboy does something bad, they help turn him in to minimize the cost of the investigation that they will be whacked with.

A little bit of pressure, applied in the right place. Time after time after time.

That is one possible path out of your future.

Of course, we could simply outsource all of our criminal justice activities to China. We have given them almost everything else.
