This came my way from Father Lennard Sabio, the assistant pastor at St. Louis de Montfort parish and an endlessly lively homilist. This morning Father Lennard recounted a tale from a parish where he’d served before coming to St. Louis.
One day while preparing for Mass, Father Lennard discovered that the nave of the church had been invaded by mice! They seemed to be everywhere. He immediately returned to the rectory and informed the pastor, who came to the church to see the infestation himself.
“What should we do?” Father Lennard said. “Call an exterminator? You know what kind of foul odor that leaves.”
The pastor smiled and shook his head. “Not necessary,” he said. “We’ll just baptize and confirm them all, and we’ll never see them in church again!”
You haven’t lived until you’ve seen a church full of congregants convulsed with uncontrollable laughter.
