Notices

“The facts of life are conservative.” – Margaret Thatcher
“If you don't read the newspaper, you're uninformed. If you do read it, you're misinformed.” – Denzel Washington
“Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as ‘bad luck.’” – Robert A. Heinlein
“We’re America. We work hard. We play by the rules. But everything bad is our fault, and the solution to every real or imaginary problem is to take more of our money and more of our freedom and hand them over to the liberal elite to redistribute among their minions.” – Kurt Schlichter
“[W]e know from historical data that predators of all sorts will concentrate where the prey is fattest.” – Arne Stromberg

Above are a few prominent “notices” of important facts. What’s significant about these “noticings” is how stridently, even viciously, they’re decried, even condemned – and always by the very same groups.

I could keep citing “notices” of comparable tenor and tone. Sometimes I do. But not this morning. The point isn’t how many well known (and despite his prestige among Hope’s sociologists, in the case of Professor Stromberg not so well known) persons agree that there are things of which we should take note; it’s how many there are among us who don’t want us to notice those things, and who’ll do anything short of murder to prevent it.

Isn’t it a highly significant datum when someone tells you “Don’t look at that!” – ? Doesn’t it practically compel you to look despite his “advice?” And if you do look, and notice something disturbing, isn’t his insistence that you mustn’t talk about it even more significant?

Significant facts, facts that stand out from the common tedium of existence, deserve to be noted and pondered. If found to be components in a pattern, they deserve to be discussed with others. Yet there’s a large “community” of persons resolved that certain significant facts shall not be discussed. They put a great amount of their time and effort into hounding, defaming, and damaging those who dare to: 1) notice those facts, and 2) talk about them.

Boy, the fnords sure are thick on the ground lately, aren’t they?

Here are a few of the more recent “notices” we’re not supposed to notice – and emphatically not supposed to discuss:

Once again, I could go on, but I think the point will stand as it is.

We’re not supposed to notice those things, and many others that displease the Left – and if we do anyway, the Left will tell us in the sternest of tones that we’re not to talk about them. Why?

It’s The Narrative, of course. It’s the Left’s “America is evil and must be reconstructed by us” narrative of many parts. They defend a outrance against any contradictory fact. The only possible defense is their “Don’t look at it / don’t talk about it” counterstroke. They enforce those dictates with slanders, epithets, and assorted attempts to harm those who dare to deviate.

A scientist who attempts to defend his theory against contradiction by rejecting observable, verifiable, reproducible facts is quickly laughed into oblivion. Even the “global warming” catastrophists screaming that we’re all going to broil unless we immediately renounce our homes and autos and go back to living in caves have been refuted and largely dismissed, though owing to the viciousness of their counterattacks on those who questioned them it took much longer than it should have.

People cannot be kept from noticing things. Attempts to prevent them from doing so, and from discussing what they’ve noticed, are ultimately doomed. That’s a great part of the reason for the Left’s current panic – and for its steady descent into violence.

Mind you, you can earn some hairy eyeballs for noticing certain things and saying that you’ve done so. I’ve earned my share. It’s always dangerous to contradict a society’s pieties. It’s akin to walking into a mosque and calling out that Muhammad was a bloodthirsty warlord, an adulterer, and a pedophile – which he was.

Keep your eyes open. Disdain – hold in contempt – anyone who tells you what you must not notice. Scathe and scorn anyone who tells you what you must not discuss. And frequently check your six. We need you.

  1. And if you're not sure of Francis' assertion try having a sane discussion about race or "gender" at your next party.

    1. Nouns have gender; people have sex.

Nouns that have gender are declined; people who are declined don't have sex.

Though I may have seen the first sentence elsewhere, I'm pretty sure that I came up with the second sentence independently.

  2. The bankruptcy of the left is total. They have no facts or logic to support their positions. White privilege, "climate" change, sexual mutilation, and black wonderfulness are just givens. Demur and you'll be viciously attacked such that the words you use will be ardently characterized as "violence." Actual violence. Your earlier post about attacking the roots applies here. The left MUST twist language because they are corrupt and want only power over others. Noticing that is absolutely intolerable for them.

  3. The quote you ascribe to Denzel Washington, I'd always seen attributed to either Mark Twain (more commonly) or Thomas Jefferson (less commonly). So I decided to do some digging and ran across this article, which indicates it's one of those "no one actually knows who 1st said it" ones -- https://quoteinvestigator.com/2016/12/03/misinformed/
