1984, Over and Over and Over Again

At the time I first read it (high school, late 1960s), just about every kid also was assigned the book (the less academically inclined might be given Animal Farm instead - it's just shorter, and with a simpler vocabulary).

I had come to think of this as a universal experience.

The New Neo's post make me reconsider that assumption. Either some kids didn't read it, or it made no impression on them.

I'm curious - what books do you remember? I added a couple of books that might lead readers to be aware of the problems of Leftist societies, and put together a Google Forms quiz.

The anonymous quiz is here.

  2. I read Animal Farm, 1984 and Brave New World well before high school. I've read the Orwell books many more times in the decades that have followed.

It's about time for me to read Brave New World again.
