Why I love the Republican Party, Exhibit 398,456.

"I can't fathom risking our norms, traditions and institutions to pass a resolution retroactively changing the electors for Trump, simply because some think there may have been enough widespread fraud to give him the win," said Chatfield.[1]
~ Republican Speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives Lee Chatfield, 12/14/20.

Yes, that's it. "Some think" there was massive fraud. As the man also said, "If there’s fraud, we punish it. If there’s not, we move on."

And like gutless Republicans everywhere, he moved on. What's a tidal wave of reports of election fraud anyway? Job number one is to validate the end of the American republic.

Mission accomplished, Lee.

  1. And we're gonna lose the country forever if we don't, dimwit.

Reading nuclear-grade stupidity like this, it makes me think it wasn't worth chewing through the straps this morning. ;)

It's simply too much to ask that public officials (a) do their jobs and (b) put up a fight for the people.

The advantage is inherently in officials. They have power to do something today but any resistance to such action takes effort and time to organize and unless it's an existential threat to their children or their dog it's nigh impossible to rally the troops. And if you try it too often you become the local Chicken Little.

Accordingly, there should be an official presumption that any and all political and social events are a threat to domestic peace, the overall health of the republic, and injurious to the interests of the mass of citizens. But as this jasper demonstrates, the official presumption is otherwise in favor of regularity, legality, and good will.

It may not be quite on point, but I loved Nicholas Cage in "Honeymoon in Vegas" where he stuck behind Ben Stein droaning on at the airline ticket counter while Cage is desperate to catch the next flight back to Vegas. He explodes in impatience and the Cage dancing around in fury and impatience juxtaposed to Stein's snail-paced exchange with the ticket agent is just priceless.

That's the way I think normies feel when they watch the clown of the moment pay attention to everything but the obvious, crying-out-loud interests of the normies.

I may already have told the story of my visiting a friend with a lovely, oh, four-year-old daughter. My friend and I were drinking from cups and saucers that were the same shape but were mismatched. She requested that we "make it right." We knew exactly what she wanted but obtusely just switch cup and saucer with cup and saucer. Her frustration was noticeable and she asked again that we "make it right." Then he exchanged his cup for my saucer so I had two cups, etc. Now she was really frustrated. We finally "fixed" it per her original request and her relief was palpable. It was hilarious to say the least and certifiable child abuse. It's a good illustration of how politicians screw with us. Mitch today congratulated Biden on his win without so much as a bulging vein on his forehead about the hideous clown show that the election proved to be.
