We...I do subscribe to the velcro theory of sanity. We don't stay sane because we personally figure out how to order our lives correctly but because we stay grounded because of a multiplicity of hooks in the form of opinions and rules of parents, schools, the state, literature, newspapers, blog articles, friends. In short, a jumble of miscellaneous influences that Solzhenitsyn didn't think amounted to much. But in a healthy society, that jumble keeps people on an even keel of sorts, sort of living by consensus, though not necessarily conscious living based on rational thought.

Affluence is wonderful but it is a curse as well in that it has enabled the most fantastical ideas to take root in the minds of a whole civilization. It's quite the reverse of "money talks but bullshit walks." V.D. Hanson talks about that today.

In short, modern life is unreal. We devote huge resources to enabling scum in our own countries and spend money like arithmetic had never been invented.Col. B. I think we're just seeing that on a larger scale and longer than the past. We have a plethora of boomers that are yet barely pubescent in their worldviews.Ron Olsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08254200694378708747noreply@blogger.com
