I was pretty sure that going down that road almost certainly involved abandonment of my suite of working graphics, video, and word processing apps, plus assorted utilities. If I don't load my system with every extra that comes with Corel software, etc., I can probably keep the pain of reinstalling Windows to a minimum. Restore the disk image I mentioned and reinstall a few work horse programs and I'm probably in pretty good shape.Col. B. Not directly. I don't mess with running a Windows environment app on other platforms.

As for MS Office, the Linux world has alternatives. LibreOffice comes with the Ubuntu distribution and can read/write MS Office file formats including MS Access. The Linus world has apps for pretty much everything that Windows does. Main drawback is sharing Windows app files (outside of Office) with other users.

I bought a Windows laptop (happens to be Win 8) which I had Ubuntu set up as a dual boot. I can boot up either Linux or Windows. You also have the choice of eliminating Windows when you install the Ubuntu package. Ubuntu is free for personal use and seems to be the easiest Linux package to use.Steve Shttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09281269716599122437noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6557458849091969678.post-498335370659060352020-02-25T13:53:12.461-05:002020-02-25T13:53:12.461-05:00Linux sounds intriguing. I've been aware of it but perhaps unreasonably assumed that my favorite video and graphics apps that I'm sure are tuned for Windows would not work well on top of Linux. Investigation must be made.

My most antiquated apps are Word 2003 and MS Money 2001. Both work fine even now. What with my beloved '89 Honda owned since new I'm sitting pretty.Col. B. When it dies, I'm probably going to go with a Linux laptop for convenient travel. As well as using my Linux Raspberry Pi, which is cheap, easy to use, and less bloated.Linda Foxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15024201252345608291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6557458849091969678.post-61060827352088337842020-02-25T12:06:53.937-05:002020-02-25T12:06:53.937-05:00HoD, nuke from orbit is hilarious.
