Why Are Rights to Free Speech and a Free Press Important?

I was wasting time with aimless surfing reading up on current events and improving my mind, when I happened to read a post in Instapundit:
THEY WERE CALLED ‘POLITICAL OFFICERS’ IN THE SOVIET UNION: At the Washington Post, the title is “Managing Editor for Diversity and Inclusion.” I wonder if she will have rewrite authority to ensure strict compliance with the party line in every story? Remember Ivan Putin in “Hunt for Red October”?
It suddenly occurred to me: What would my present social and political thinking be, if I hadn't happened to read that book (and quite a few others from Tom Clancy). I think the first book I read of his was Patriot Games.  I'd mostly read murder mysteries and science fiction at that point, with occasional suspense thrillers as a chaser. I suppose that's how I stumbled upon the book in the library.

Heinlein books had opened my mind to the idea of opposition to the Left being  a GOOD thing. But, it took the Clancy novels to tunnel into deeply held ideas about the decency of the Left, and root out some very old misconceptions about geo-political interactions, and how the Left had distorted them badly.

I'd read some of the arguments from the NLDs - so strong was my conditioning, the arguments barely penetrated. But, that fictional portrayal of an Irish-American guy, who stumbles across perfidy, and is driven to act against it, struck a nerve in me. I could see myself acting in similar ways, given that awareness. I started to ask myself some very inconvenient questions about the Left - it was a long process, and one that my family is still puzzled by.

So. Fiction is not merely important because of it's storyline, the entertainment value, or the literary worth. It's not just a pleasant way to pass some idle time.

Fiction can change lives. It can awaken people from their slumber, and infuse them with dreams.

I'll be returning to my writing next week with some new thinking about the meaning of what I write.

It's Not Censorship, Exactly, But...

It is intended to limit Free Speech, and keep NLD opinions out of public reach.

Rather than work through legal action to try to put together a case for the Supreme Court, it might be better to use administrative/executive action to put through a RICO case - the various services, which are clearly all-but-complete monopolies, are acting in concert to promote speech benefiting only one POV, and suppressing NLD activities.

The trail of involvement by the FAANGs is overt, obvious, and - likely - actionable. After the election, Trump's DOJ needs to fire a warning shot over the bow. There are a LOT of people who would turn on them - a woman would do it in a heartbeat (NEVER trust a woman with confidential information that could destroy you - she will thrust the dagger in herself, with a cool smile on her face as she watches the lifeblood drain from your twitching body).

Let's pray for a peaceful passing for RBG (She is suffering liver cancer - it is a painful death, and usually, thankfully, quick. The way the Left has propped her up, like Weekend at Bernies, is a disgrace.)

All of this is dependent on Trump's re-election. I think it's getting more likely every day. That's why the panicked assistance to the activists, the continuation of the shutdowns, the refusal to cooperate in Congress, even though it causes the voters to enter complete indebtedness for life (both those receiving aid, and those paying for it, are the losers).

This is the Final Showdown. The Leftists cannot survive this battle, and they are determined to throw everything they can into the fight. (At least, that's what the Left are telling their supporters. The leadership will be fine - they always are. Their money is safely tucked away, their escape route already secured. But the followers? They're toast.)


The Left was always about promotion of their change in power. It was never about improving the lives of the people.

To using kids in the streets (again) to further their grab for power. It wasn't enough to destroy many of the youth of my generation, through 'revolutionary activity' (AMAZING how the leadership never has to serve a day in jail, isn't it?), drugs, mis-education that results in inability to get/hold a job, suspicion of normal family life (leading to the truly sad and lonely lives they are currently enduring), and soured outlook on life. They had to use their fading powers to ensnare another cohort of young bodies into giving up all hope of a normal life for their 'revolutionary process'.

Today's Woke shock troops have been fed this bilge since before pre-school, and they are operating on the ingrained belief that THEY are the ones that will make America better - MUCH better than the Fascist-controlled Hellhole they have been told she is.

Some will escape. Some will - eventually - be able to re-construct a life that approaches normal again.

Most will not. From our understanding of the past, we can see that it is vital to keep them from jobs in government and education, lest they burrow in and infect yet another generation with this vile disease.

Misdirection Chorus

     In the usual case it is a mistake – an epistemic category error – to believe something to be true simply because many people are saying it. And once again, the wisdom of the Buddha is relevant:

     Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it – no matter if I have said it! – except it agree with your own reason and your own common sense.

     Scott Adams, who in recent years has become a major commentator and analyst of current events, has produced a video that addresses the media’s attempt to get millions of people to believe the reverse of the facts of a most important matter:

     Yes, it’s twelve and a half minutes long. However, it’s eminently worth the time of anyone concerned about what can be done to treat COVID-19 in individual cases. It’s even more important as an illustration of the mainstream media’s attempts to manipulate public perceptions and opinions. It points up something the media is desperate that you not know. Please view it.

     Conrad Black, another relatively recent star in the commentary firmament, has written an essay highly relevant to my topic for today. Like Scott Adams, he highlights the media’s “don’t look at that; look over here!” method of misinforming the news consumer. A snippet:

     In its July 4 issue, the Economist solemnly intoned that Trump would have to reverse the supposedly rampaging coronavirus pandemic, accelerate the economic recovery, and generally be a more empathetic chap in order to have more than the one chance in nine that the magazine gave him for reelection. Biden was extolled as naturally popular and his rather glaring shortcomings, including his shaky intellectual stamina and prodigious past financial abuse of public office, were simply whitewashed....
     In what its readers presumably imagine to be a thoughtful analysis, the Economist did not mention the likelihood that much of the Obama-Biden Administration is about to be indicted for the most colossal constitutional crimes in the country’s history in trying to alter and then undo the 2016 presidential election result. It did not blink at the complete political and practical impossibility of the program that Biden has now embraced.

     What the media leaves “outside the frame” is presumed not to matter. Yet sometimes it matters more than anything the media say.

     The point of media misdirection is to get millions of people to infer incorrectly from its presentations of “the facts.” Persons thus persuaded will thereafter talk as if those inferences were Gospel truths. They become things “everybody knows,” implied to be above the possibility of refutation.

     Consider how media manipulation by misdirection synergizes with these other ongoing phenomena:

  • The attempt to atomize us through the COVID-19 scare;
  • The calumnies aimed at commentators on the Right who dissent from media-espoused positions;
  • The “deplatforming” being waged by “Big Tech” against anyone who espouses a conservative position.

     It’s a variation on the Big Lie raised to unprecedented potency by the media’s subtlety, its global reach, and the age of its institutions. Yes, it requires them to work in coordination, but all the major media are so thoroughly Left-conquered that that’s no impediment whatsoever.

     There isn’t a lot more that needs to be said about this. Just be aware of the misdirection technique, regard every media assertion of fact as subject to independent verification – the more strident the assertion, the wiser it is to be skeptical about it – and remember that priceless statement by the Buddha.

Truer words.

The oppression of normality in the globo-homo U.S. is as plain as day. The bizarre and perverted are extolled. Minority parasitism, crime, and dysfunction must not be discussed, let alone mentioned. The foreigner is worshipped. Spending, debt, cronyism, and contempt for the white majority are through the roof. Parasitism and chaos are embraced. Speaking the truth will lead to violent attack.

Every day and in every way the stupid or foul option is chosen without fail. The center cannot hold.

We can plainly see the strategy of the Postmodern establishment. In areas under blue dominion, the governing class has ruthlessly oppressed normality, while at the same time stepping back from their duty to prevent chaos and crime, actively encouraging destruction. The goal of these domestic enemy combatants seems to be to collapse stability in the areas they control, and drag the entire country down with them.[1]
Everything possible is done to punish citizens who protect themselves and to shield the vilest of street thugs.

One small positive sign

Last week's trip to Padre Island took me through many miles of South Texas that I don't normally see. After we got out of the urban clutter of Austin-San Marcos-New Braunfels-San Antonio I started seeing something else that I don't see in Austin: Trump 2020 signs. Large ones. Frequently paired with an American flag. I wouldn't claim there were a great many of them, but they popped up with enough frequency to keep me smiling. 

I keep reading articles warning that the influx of Californians and illegal aliens will turn Texas blue, and maybe they're right. But based on strictly anecdotal evidence, this large chunk of Texas is still overwhelmingly patriotic and voting Republican.

Marginalia

     We approach the midpoint of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s been a rough one, so far, and few are the prospects for improvement. Things are particularly rugged here at the Fortress – allow me to withhold the non-weather-related reasons – so have a few bytes from other sources, with brief commentary.


     I have the utmost contempt for persons who want to impose their personal problems on the rest of us:

     Before a coronavirus news briefing in Harrisburg on Tuesday, Pennsylvania Health Secretary Rachel Levine responded to a series of transphobic attacks directed against her.
     “While these individuals may think that they are only expressing their displeasure with me, they are, in fact, hurting the thousands of LGBTQ Pennsylvanians who suffered directly from these current demonstrations of harassment,” Levine began, according to PennLive.com....
     “Your actions perpetuate the spirit of intolerance and discrimination against LGBTQ individuals and specifically transgender individuals,” Levine said of the incidents....
     “We have not made progress unless we have all made progress,” she added. “It is in this space that these acts of intolerance live and where we need to continue to work against them.”

     “Attacks.” “Transphobic attacks.” Ponder those words, Gentle Reader. What do they signify? Condemnation at the very least, no? Some form of physical assault, at the other extreme. But that’s not borne out by the article:

     Among the anti-trans incidents was a man who dressed as Levine for a dunk tank at a local fair, an off-color menu item mocking Levine at a tavern and a radio host who repeatedly called Levine “sir” during an interview.

     “Among” the incidents? Was there nothing more? Nothing worse? I’d have expected the most dramatic “attacks” to be front and center. Is the Post, a paper long known for lurid coverage, suppressing the mention of them?

     I have said it before: If you want to transition from your birth sex to the other one:

  1. Work to achieve a convincing presentation;
  2. To avoid any unwanted consequences, keep it to yourself.

     That’s the way transgenderism was handled before it was politicized, and it worked tolerably well. Levine’s presentation is laughable, and he’s compounded the damage by going public about his “transition.” Choices – decisions to act or not to act – have consequences.


     Anthony Fauci appears to have become addicted to the limelight. Either that or his dubious prestige is being exploited to intensify the New Totalitarianism:

     This...person has been so wrong, and for so long, that it’s a marvel he hasn’t been pilloried for it. On the strength of his “expertise” we’ve precipitated a Second Great Depression, destroyed millions of jobs and tens of thousands of businesses, and inculcated an unknown fraction of the American populace with fears that might never be quenched.

     I really don’t care about Fauci’s claims to expertise. (I also don’t care about his inability to pitch.) I care about his medical-grade arrogance and inability to admit to error...especially since even the makers of the masks he wants us trapped behind admit that they cannot and will not prevent the transmission of the Chinese Lung Rot a.k.a. Covid-19:

     They who have enjoyed popular attention seldom lose their taste for it. In an attempt to capitalize on the current sociopolitical chaos, an old, nearly forgotten racialist huckster has stepped forward with a favorite slander:

     “Hitler had his Brown shirts and Mussolini had his Black shirts, now Donald Trump has his camouflage shirts.” Thus began a statement signed by 15 distinguished interdenominational religious leaders in Chicago that I joined, including ministers, priests, and rabbis.
     Comparisons to Hitler are always explosive, but the comparison is apt. “Hitler’s bullyboys,” the statement continues, “operated on the fringes or outside of the law to violently intimidate Germany’s leftists and finally to exterminate Jews. Trump’s bully boys are operating on the fringes or outside the law to violently intimidate America’s progressives and people of color who are exercising their First Amendment right to protest racial injustice.”
     Portland, Oregon, provides the model. Trump dispatched untrained, unidentified, camouflage-wearing, military-uniformed, no name-tagged bullyboys who are literally kidnapping protesters, stuffing them in unidentified vans, taking them to unknown locations without charges — and against the wishes of local law enforcement officers the mayor of Portland and the governor of Oregon.

     One falsehood after another, and topped with the Left’s favorite outrageous denunciation – “[Insert chosen Republican here] is Hitler” – from the superannuated war horse of the racialist Left, Jesse Jackson. He must miss the spotlight, or maybe it’s that his illegitimate kids are hurting for new sneakers.

     Glenn Reynolds comments:

     How explosive can [comparisons to Hitler] be in 2020, when in “In the aftermath of the Republican Party’s dramatic takeover of Congress on the strength of the conservative ‘Contract With America’ in 1994, Jackson lamented: ‘In South Africa, we call it apartheid. In Nazi Germany, we’d call it fascism. Here in the United States, we call it conservatism.’”
     Then in 2000, “During the Florida mess he accused Bush of ‘Nazi tactics’ and suggested that Jeb Bush was deliberately targeting Holocaust victims, ‘once again.’”

     That’s Jesse Jackson for you. But it’s also the behavior of the typical black racialist. Oh, and remember this one:

     “These people are committing genocide with a smile...they’re worse than Hitler.” – The Dishonorable Major Owens (D, NY), quoted in Ann Coulter’s meticulously footnoted Slander.

     And people wonder why it doesn’t trouble me to be called a racist. I simply smile, say “Consider the source,” and walk away.

The NGOs - Non-Governmental Organizations - and the Case for Dumping Their IRS Designation

Most of them pose as 'charities' or 'non-partisan' organizations.

Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, these are HIGHLY partisan organizations, that work in concert with political allies to further specifically political positions, legislation, and imposition of their POV on schools.

The Left has long used the IRS cover to pay fewer taxes, and operate without the scrutiny that is given by the FEC to political organizations that forward political parties/candidates. Many wealthy people funnel huge amounts of cash to 'middleman' charities, that, in turn, pass through the money to radical organizations, often explicitly political. They couldn't have directly funded those receiving NGOs, but, by using the pass-through organization, they evaded the spirit of the law.



Another mechanism that the Left uses to direct money to political entities with Radical aims is ActBlue. Many Leftist organizations do not waste their time, or energy, setting up the means to process donations directly, but rely on ActBlue to collect the money, take a small cut - 3.9% of the total donation, and send the remaining cash on to the NGO.

One such organization is BLM. When you click on a button to donate, you are redirected to the ActBlue site. A little known provision of the agreement that you must agree to is this:

Re-designation of Contributions

In the event that a campaign or committee (a) fails for 60 days to cash a check from ActBlue which includes your contribution (after ActBlue makes repeated attempts to work with the campaign to ensure all checks are cashed), or (b) affirmatively refuses a contribution earmarked through ActBlue, your contribution will be re-designated as a contribution to ActBlue. Contributions to social welfare organizations which are similarly not cashed or affirmatively refused will be kept by ActBlue and used generally to support its social welfare activities. Contributions to charitable organizations which are not cashed or affirmatively refused will go to ActBlue Charities.

What does that mean in real terms?

Well, since all of the NGOs are run by Leftists coordinating their activities, it can reasonably be concluded that, should the political parties of the Left run out of dough, they can LEGALLY shuffle your money (meant for a specific charity/organization) to whatever one that is currently running on fumes. 

You want BLM to be the beneficiary of your hard-earned cash? Tough. The Dem effort to GOTV is running out of money, just a few days before the election. The donor will NOT be notified of the substitution of recipient. 

LPLs Get FURIOUS at Dissent on C-19

I'd recently found an article in the London Times, that discussed a scientific study that found there has NOT been transmission from students to teachers. I posted the link in FB, as many of my teacher friends had expressed fear of returning to school (in all fairness, some of them are 60+, others have been putting on weight - as most of us do - and, hence, have heightened risk).  

I was surprised to receive comments that I would be unfriended. My position: 

Truth is NOT a Hate Crime. 

With that in mind, I'm linking to this article, also recently found. Apparently, MN and WI have similar population size. WI did not stay shut down, but opened for business. While MN continued to see a rise in cases, WI did not.

So, the EVIDENCE on shutdown vs. return to business is not solidly in favor of huddling inside our houses. It's time to let the sun shine in.

LPLs (Liberals/Progressives/Leftists) need to get a grip. Get cleaned up, dress in normal clothes, and dare to resume normal life. Stop listening to the MSM re: politics/medical/reality. Talk to Normal people, and stop throwing the F-shade at them.

Get out of your bubble. There's a whole world of difference out there; opinions that differ from yours are not being voiced by Nazis/Fascists/White Supremacists - there just Regular People, who don't see life from within the Elitist World View.

The casual citizen might inquire as to how such things as the takeover of a portion of a major city in America might occur; how history and monuments can be erased by hostile action. The truth is, it cannot take place in a nation that values what it is, but it has, because the United States of America no longer exists. It no longer has the will to defend its history, its sovereign territory, preserve truth or allow others to speak truth to those dedicated to its very destruction. No nation exists where that is true and where history and truth of one nation has been erased, the new nation can rise and rename the monuments and erect new ones for their heroes.

The Demise of Congress

     Congress no longer has any claim to dignity – nor any claim to moral authority – after this display of unlimited venality:

     The patent absurdity that these Democrats would demand that Attorney-General William Barr appear before them, face their harangues, yet not permit him to speak goes beyond anything in American politics to date, including the felonious farce that was the “Russian collusion” hoax. At least that was mostly a “Deep State” operation, with little participation by elected Democrats until it was plainly a failure.

     As usual, Ace has some penetrating comments:

     The Democrats shredded the social compact today.
     As they shred it every day, lately -- there's not much left.
     Today they shredded the social compact by defending and justifying terrorist attacks on law-abiding Americans.
     They also shredded it by holding a Stalinesque show trial of AG Barr.
     They would "ask questions" -- really lob unfounded accusations -- and then cut off Barr as he attempted to answer. They would shout "I'm reclaiming my time!" as a way of telling Barr to shut up, as they did not want his answers to count against their five minutes of time.
     I wondered why Barr didn't just walk out of the hearing.
     I think that obese malignant dwarf Jerry Nadler might have actually tried instructing the Sergeant of Arms of the House to put Barr under arrest if he tried to leave.

     John Hinderaker expands on the theme:

     [T]he Democrats were outrageously rude to the Attorney General of the United States. The hearing was devoted to their abusing him on various ridiculous grounds. He barely got a word in edgewise. At one point, he said something like, “This is a hearing. Aren’t I the one who supposedly is being heard?” Of course not. Whenever he got to mid-sentence, the Democrats interrupted him. “I’m reclaiming my time” was the theme of the day.
     I am not sure who the Democrats think is the audience for this sort of nonsense. Sentient voters watching on television couldn’t possibly have been impressed. Maybe they are just looking for sentence fragments they can use in fundraising emails.
     Then there is the larger point. The Democrats are committed to the view that what is happening in Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, Atlanta and other cities is mere “peaceful protest.” Thus, the Trump administration is unjustified in sending in federal officers to protect federal property, like courthouses. And to the extent that anything untoward happens, it is Donald Trump’s fault. This was the main theory that the Democrats tried to advance through their “questioning” of Attorney General Barr.

     Outrageous. Insupportable. If any of these vipers in human guise continue in office after the November elections, it will cast a final judgment of condemnation upon the Democrat Party.

     Was there nothing the Republicans on the committee could do to compel a degree of fairness (not to demand courtesy, which is plainly beyond any Democrat in federal office) toward the Attorney-General, who had appeared voluntarily before them? Are the “rules of the House” unable to compel fairness toward a Cabinet Secretary who has presented himself before a committee of his own volition?

     I’m more disgusted than I can say. Accordingly, I’ll stop here and fume silently, though I may be back later.

Responding to Those Who Say the Protests are Peaceful

I have a friend who posted what is described as a letter from someone who is peacefully protesting in Portland, and detailing a whole list of horrors committed by police against innocent people who weren't doing anything illegal or provocative.

You! Stop laughing. This is serious.

This is coming from William Salter, a BLM/Dem supporter, whose FB page I link here.

Here's what he posted (copied in full). Note that HE didn't vouch for the veracity of it - it was something an acquaintance (un-named) posted that his father-in-law wrote. Now, that is at least 3rd-hand from William, so give the report all the consideration it deserves (actually, it's likely from some Leftist group, sent as a 'personal account', in hopes of getting the propaganda spread on social media).

I checked - Alden Roberts is a retired OR doctor, 69 years old - so in the right age range to have been influenced by the 60's and the common thinking of that time. I've found NOTHING that Dr. Roberts directly posted online that would indicate that he wrote this, or was even present in Portland. He is said to have a son-in-law named James Ackerman (location, and affiliations unknown).
Post from a Portland OR resident, referring to his father-in-law:
While I've been sort of following the ongoing events in Portland, I was floored by the information I recently received from my father-in-law, Alden Roberts. It is incredibly important that people know what is happening in Portland, because it is very scary and has very real implications for our entire country.
By way of context, Alden is a general surgeon, retired as the Chief Medical Officer of a hospital in Vancouver, Washington, and just finished his term as the Chairman of the Washington Medical Commission (the state agency that licenses and oversees all doctors in the state). I share this information to emphasize that he is a community leader, a very smart, educated, and informed person, and is not one to exaggerate or spread misinformation.
Here’s what he has observed in Portland over the past few days:
"1. The protests are confined to a 2 block radius around the courthouse, and if you’re 4 blocks away, you can’t tell anything has been happening. There is nothing going on outside of that region, and Portland is functioning as normally as the Pandemic will allow. It is not burning, nor is it out of control.
2. The protesters are absolutely peaceful at the Protests that I have been part of, and with the exception of graffiti, are completely within their constitutional rights to protest. The protests involve singing, chanting, and have used “white walls” to block whites who are trying to disrupt or corrupt the protests. Yes, cursing is rather commonplace. More than ½ of the protesters are white. All are protesting for Black Lives Matter, although the entrance of the federal paramilitary force has brought out a lot of people, including myself, who are incensed at the use of unregulated federal force against law abiding citizen and against the will of the state and local governments.
3. ALL of the protesters are wearing masks to minimize transmission of CoV-2. However, as at times there are 1000 or more of us, it is hard (though not impossible) to maintain social distancing. When the federal paramilitary force is deployed, it becomes impossible.
4. The Police responded unprovoked and were brutal, but nothing like the paramilitary force. There is a court order that forbids the police to use teargas. I was not there when it was just the police.
5. At the protests I have attended, I did not witness any unlawfulness on the part of the protesters. Each time, the federal paramilitary personnel launched an apparently unprovoked attack. There have been no “riots.” The federal paramilitary force has had no training in crowd control, has no oversight, was not invited to Portland by local leadership, does not have any form of identification do not wear name badges, and wears military camo. They are heavily armed with flash-bang grenades, less-lethal bullets, pepper bullets, pepper spray and tear gas. They will pull goggles off of protesters and spray pepper spray into their eyes. They used a baton to beat a US Navy vet, broke his hand and sprayed pepper spray in his eyes because he asked why they weren’t honoring their vow to protect the constitution. During the assault, he stood still and did not resist until blinded by the pepper spray, he turned around and walked away. The “line of mothers” on Sunday was gassed and shot with less-lethal bullets for chanting Black Lives Matter. At least one was pregnant. A protester holding a sign up with both hands was shot in the head with a “non-lethal” bullet and will likely have permanent brain damage. While I have not personally seen this, there are videos of people being kidnapped into unmarked vans by the federal paramilitaries as they left the protests, held for a couple of days, interrogated, then released without charges or explanation. At this time, re-read my first two points. The protests are no threat to Portland and only encompass a 2 block area. They have been peaceful, with graffiti as the only illegal activity. They are well controlled and supported by a cross section of Portlanders. There is no reason for the federal government to be involved, and the excessive force being used appears to be nothing more than a political show of force against US Citizens by the Trump administration.
6. About 3000 protesters showed up last night (July 21); all with masks, very well behaved. Certainly no chaos, no violence on the part of the protesters. I left at 10:30, the paramilitary attacked at 12:30. I spent an hour talking to the medics. They say they are being targeted by the paramilitary personnel. They are often the first to be shot at and tear gassed. When they try to help an injured protester, the paramilitary personnel throw flash-bangs and tear gas at them (they carry gas masks). One of them was beaten, dragged away from the injured person they were treating and arrested. They are from OHSU as well as Portland Fire.
7. The Elk statue was taken down by the Police to “protect” it, but the Elk statue was a favorite of the protesters because it was uncontroversial; so they got a blow-up elk and put it where the real statue used to stand. It’s sort of a rallying point."
This should concern, if not terrify, all of us. This is an unidentified and unaccountable federal police presence attacking American citizens who are not violating any federal laws. This is literally how the "secret police" in other authoritarian regimes began. The comparison to the early stages of Nazi Germany is NOT AN EXAGGERATION anymore.
Silence is complacency. Please share this post. Please spread this information. Please get involved. Do not allow or condone this conduct by our federal government. I don't care which political party you support, this is an affront to the U.S. Constitution and the founding principals of our nation.

I have no doubt that the person who reported this is peaceful and well-intentioned, as are MOST of the people who are part of the crowd. However, in a crowd of around 500-1000 people, it's more than likely he didn't see everything.
Might some "mostly peaceful" protesters have been hurt? Yes. But, it's also just as likely that MOST of those who were physically injured by police were, in fact, guilty of criminal acts.
The fact that a woman is pregnant is a good reason to stay away from a volatile situation. Going there, and expecting to be magically protected is, literally crazy.
I've heard about the "peaceful" moms. Some of them may have been. Others were caught - on camera - committing criminal acts. Ask yourself if being a woman should get you a pass on crimes.
There are apparently TWO different protests - one is peaceful and following the LAWFUL means of assembling to influence government.
The other has other motivations - to destroy, burn, loot, and create chaos, in support of a revolution.
For the peaceful to continue gathering after dark, expecting the righteousness of their cause to be seen, when the public is also seeing - at the same time, and in the same place - violence not seen since the 1960s - well, they are foolish, indeed.

Get Your Outrage Faces On, Ladies

     ...because I’m about to tell you something you don’t want to hear.

     I’ve argued in the past – and I have not been refuted – that there is no “right” to vote. No such “right” can be justified on natural-law grounds. More, it is flatly contradicted by laws that limit who may vote and under what conditions – laws that have commanded near-universal acceptance since the earliest origins of voting.

     Today, our favorite Bookworm joins the fray:

     People are beginning to notice that the new leaders on the left are female. As a woman myself, some might think that I would find this a gratifying sign of progress in America. I don’t. I find it a worrisome thing because these women are driven by pure emotionalism, which has been channeled over the last few decades, especially at colleges, into a sense of perpetual victimhood and a deep hatred for America and her constitutionally-based institutions.

     My theory is that the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote, was a mistake. It wasn’t a mistake when women were given weren’t so angry but for the last few years, thanks to academia, and its evil spawn in K-12 education, the media, and Hollywood, women have marinated in anger. For those who embraced that toxic marinade and emerged as Democrats, Progressives, Democrat-Socialists, or whatever name they give their leftism, it’s destroyed them.

     These modern leftist women are not the people who got the vote 100 years ago. They have become a different creature altogether, and not the kind that should be trusted anywhere near power.

     Bookworm’s argument is a utilitarian one. Even if I find her logic questionable, it is qualitatively appropriate. If the franchise is an awarded privilege rather than a right – a position I think she and I commonly hold – then awarding or withholding it on utilitarian grounds is appropriate. It’s been treated that way for centuries. Indeed, it’s the only way to treat the matter.

     However, the question of what utilitarian grounds are appropriate remains to be addressed. Let us frame the question in Constitutional terms:

What basis for awarding the franchise would best serve the purposes set forth in the Constitution of the United States?

     We begin.


     Let’s start from the Preamble to Constitution:

     We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

     (I went to some effort to preserve the links in the above. No, they don’t appear on the parchment of the original Constitution; the Founders’ grasp of HTML was exceedingly weak. All the same, please follow them.)

     While it was acknowledged that the preservation of the consent of the governed required that the officials of the United States should largely be chosen through an electoral process (NB: Not necessarily purely by popular vote, as was made plain in the segments concerning the election of federal Senators and of the President and Vice-President), it was also agreed that there had to be limits on the use of the vote: both as regards which citizens may vote and for what purposes the vote could be used. Imperative statements in the Constitution, both in its original text and as amended, are immune to repeal or modification by popular vote; they can only be addressed through the amendment procedure set out in Article V. This applies both to direct attempts to change the terms of the Constitution and to indirect attempts via popular referenda. The Constitution could not validly be deemed “the supreme Law of the Land” (Article VI) were its terms vulnerable to the franchise.

     Under the federalist conception of American government, the federal government’s powers were defined by the Constitution. The several states were expected to produce subsidiary constitutions, which in time all of them did. Again, the powers of the state governments were supposed to be defined by those charters. To define, as I have said before, is to limit: That which conforms to the terms of the definition is separated from that which is outside its terms – and in constitutional practice any powers other than those defined are reserved, as Amendment X plainly states.

     Hearkening back to the Preamble’s statement of purposes, it can credibly be argued that extensions of the franchise that have occurred since 1787 have been detrimental to those purposes. However, I would not limit us to the extension of the franchise to women as granted under Amendment XIX. I would go much, much further.

     The vote is a form of authority. Robert A. Heinlein has compared it to the Rods and the Axe of Roman heritage:

     Major Reid paused to touch the face of an old-fashioned watch, "reading" its hands. "The period is almost over and we have yet to determine the moral reason for our success in governing ourselves. Now continued success is never a matter of chance. Bear in mind that this is science, not wishful thinking; the universe is what it is, not what we want it to be. To vote is to wield authority; it is the supreme authority from which all other authority derives—such as mine to make your lives miserable once a day. Force, if you will! -- the franchise is force, naked and raw, the Power of the Rods and the Ax. Whether it is exerted by ten men or by ten billion, political authority is force."
     "But this universe consists of paired dualities. What is the converse of authority? Mr. Rico."
     He had picked one I could answer. "Responsibility, sir."
     "Applause. Both for practical reasons and for mathematically verifiable moral reasons, authority and responsibility must be equal -- else a balancing takes place as surely as current ‘flows between points of unequal potential. To permit irresponsible authority is to sow disaster; to hold a man responsible for anything he does not control is to behave with blind idiocy. The unlimited democracies were unstable because their citizens were not responsible for the fashion in which they exerted their sovereign authority... other than through the tragic logic of history. The unique ‘poll tax' that we must pay was unheard of. No attempt was made to determine whether a voter was socially responsible to the extent of his literally unlimited authority. If he voted the impossible, the disastrous possible happened instead -- and responsibility was then forced on him willy-nilly and destroyed both him and his foundationless temple."

     Applause, indeed. If the voter cannot be held responsible for his use of the franchise, he must not have it. But how could any republic enforce those terms upon millions of voters?

     The Founders decided to leave the problem to the state governments, each of which enacted requirements for wielding the franchise. As far as I can tell from my research, they arrived at a single solution.


     The original conception of the franchise was that it should apply solely to persons with a substantial tie to the locale in which they live: i.e., the ownership of real property. It was wisely conceived and worked well, absent any laws against non-whites owning real property. Here’s the great Isabel Paterson on the subject:

     To form a true and workable federation, the component states must cede the attribute of sovereignty of the border. But they must retain a legitimate control over admission to the state's body politic, to preserve their political entities. This is the power to admit to the franchise. Race, color, or previous condition of servitude are irrelevant. They ought not to be considered disqualifications. The correct qualifications lie in local residence and allegiance and real property. Only in these requirements can a moral principle be found. If the franchise calls for qualification at all, it is clearly conditional, not absolute. So far as the conditions are practical, they must relate to the function of the instrument. The action is that of measured extension from a permanent base, so it must be attached to immovable local property. Liquid capital will not do. These qualifications are moral as well as material, being all within the competence of the individual; a responsible person can fulfill them by his own choice and efforts. But it is absolutely necessary that the power to designate qualifications should also be in the state. If the Federal government has power to fix or alter any particular, even negatively, it has the ultimate full power of fixing all requirements by particulars. And a defect running through the whole structure is much more grave than a localized error. [Emphasis added by FWP.]

     Miss Paterson regarded federal interference in the states’ power to award or withhold the franchise as a supremely grave error. She notes in particular the pernicious effects of Amendment XVI:

     Interference in this manner is by decomposition. It was forty years before the decomposition of the bases became fully apparent; but it made the next attack possible, when a national function was nullified, by the income tax amendment. Previously no direct or personal tax could be laid except in proportion to the population. Then the action would be equated in every voter and representative. If a tax were proposed, each would know that he must pay a proportionate share; while if any region were to receive an extra share in expenditure (as in river or harbor works, etc.), its influence would be greatly outweighed by that of the other areas....But when the Federal government could mulct a wealthy state in taxes disproportionate to the population, to buy out a poor state by expenditures disproportionate to the population, the equation vanished. The mass-inertia veto was lost. (The weight, the interest, thereafter took effect in unbalance, as uncompartmented liquid ballast surging from side to side, dislocated mass.)

     [FWP: Note that Miss Paterson’s reasoning applies equally well to every form of income taxation, whether implemented at the federal, state, or any other level. But that’s a discussion for another time.]

     Reimplemented for the 21st Century, a franchise founded on the ownership of real property might work thus: your franchise is tied to the name on the receipt for your property taxes. If you paid property taxes on your residence during the current year, you’ll be mailed a ballot -- one ballot; otherwise, not. This would avoid all questions about the enfranchisement of men versus women, white versus black, and so forth, while simultaneously eliminating the voting power of the non-self-supporting and transients of every kind. It would also tend to exclude persons on welfare or other forms of government-provided support, as such persons are unlikely to own real property.

     Is it normally the case that the payer of residential property taxes is a man – i.e., a male human being? Why yes, it is. So what? If he were so inclined, he could give the ballot to his wife, his ten year old daughter, or his dog. The point is that the franchise has been limited to persons who have invested in the district and would therefore bear the consequences of any decisions made by its elected officials. Escaping those consequences would require him to change his residence, a protracted procedure fraught with several complexities and difficulties.

     I can see no valid arguments for the enfranchisement of persons without that substantial tie to the district which would be affected by their votes. As for persons who rent rather than buy their homes: Sorry, dude. You want a say in how things will be run around here? Buy some land. What’s that? You say you can’t afford it? Well, then we who have committed ourselves to the financial support of the district through our property taxes are indisposed to afford you any say in local affairs.

     I could go on, but I think I’ve established my position clearly enough. Let the arguments begin – and no slinging of insults, or I’ll put you on the banned list. Only evidence and reason will pass muster in the comments section here.

A very plausible hypothesis about the current insanity.

Here's an excellent comment I ran across on ZeroHedge this morning:
Ninety-nine percent of the hate against Trump and those that work for him is synthetic and fabricated due to TARIFFS ON COMMUNIST CHINA. I said this back in 2015.

I knew exactly what the power-players were most concerned with. They thought that the Globalist program of making China the center of global production was a safe bet. They thought that they would continue to make huge profits by screwing the American worker, shipping all the industry to Communist China, and by making slave labour by the CCP a continuous font of wealth.

And then Pres. Trump not only spoke the correct policy about Totalitarian China, that China was going to be tariffed and sanctioned, that the USA would now begin the process of regaining its industrial base, but put in place a plan to build the most advanced factory systems on US soil (eg TSMC microprocessor plant, Phlow US Drug Manufacturing, etc).

And that is why the CCP virus was allowed to travel to the USA,[1] and it is why the Anarchists have been mobilized and now set about trying to divide the nation and stoke racial tension, direct riots against US cities, attack and assassinate those individuals who dare to speak the truth in the face of fascist thugs.[2]

Screwing the American worker, which off-shoring did in a major way, was a policy founded in malevolence. A towering pile of it. Open borders and multiculturalism have the same foundation.

Back to off-shoring though. If malevolence got it rolling, why would malevolence not be the driving spirit of the opposition to Trump's intention to bring back industry to our shores? Opposition to whatever Trump does?

His and our enemies have learned nothing and if novictim's analysis is correct, they fully intend to double down on their policy of destroying the middle and working classes of our country. The chaos, violence, and stupidity that you see are not accidental. They are the tools of the continuing hollowing out of America.

I hate to posit malevolence as a driving force in American life today. The driving force in point of fact. But where is the decency motivating anything? Some federal agents were physically blinded by lasers used by the vile scum who now control our streets. If decency ruled, every street demonstration in the country would be cleaned out instantly followed by a short but clear lecture to the nation about what political protest is all about. And what free speech is all about too. But that is beyond the understanding of the Twitterer in Chief whose intellectual awakening appears to be scheduled after that of Creepy Joe's.

We see this playing out not just in the streets but in the web where it is beyond clear that these same people are determined to shut down any debate on what should be done about covid-19. Hydroxychlorophyll plus carburetor cleaner appear to be a highly effective treatment for the disease but it's clear that this dirt-cheap option is anathema to the political class and they are all in for the apparently useless Remdesivir (and variants), continued economy-killing lockdown (and monetary fiddling and fiscal insanity ad astra), and Love Potion No. 9 The Vaccine. The Vaccine! The Vaccine! The Holy Grail, discovery of which after an arduous quest by Bill the Biogenius will make everything alright again.

[1] China's decision to allow unrestricted international travel from Wuhan at a time when it knew enough about covid-19 to impose draconian limits on internal movement is suspicious and I just don't think it can be chalked up to simple negligence in the midst of an unusual emergency. That's an issue that needs to be addressed by national authorities whose resources and experience are better than those of J. Privileged Whiteman. However, I'm not sure that this fanatic opposition to Trump involved a hostile domestic political class who immediately saw the implications of China's malfeasance and somehow effected a government "failure" to stop travel from China. I do think that commenter novictim's point is still valid because our enemy class has had plenty of time to capitalize on the initial failure to stop travel. C-Plague - the Future of America's Existence

I'm a retired teacher. While I was actively teaching, I caught MORE than my share of every virus, respiratory infection, and contagious disease known to man. Over time, I developed the immune system of an Immortal.

Oh, sure, I'd pick up an every-other year or so cold. Treated with decongestants, I bounced back quickly.

Until I didn't. 

The last few years I taught, I was felled with respiratory infections lasting 1-2 months of brain fog, fatigue, and difficulty keeping my eyes open for longer than a 1/2 hour or so. The only thing that helped was about a week of rest, followed by carefully slow return to normal. During convalescence, I would go home and take a long nap. I had little energy for many weeks.

After a particularly bad winter's infection, I decided to retire. I made my plans to check out at the end of the following year. I told the principal, got my retirement parties, collected my goodies (including a VERY nice wooden rocking chair, with a laser-cut metal plaque made in our CNC machine shop).

My husband kept prodding me to take another job, or even sub. Nope. I enjoyed that fist year completely retired. I rested, puttered around the house, and began writing seriously (several short stories, a journal, and 1 finished book - still being edited, and 1 in progress - which was waiting until my laptop got replaced to be finished).


Eventually, I started working at various things part-time (subbing in schools, selling health insurance). The subbing is on hold for now - the schools are not in session, and I am a little concerned about testing my immune system.

But, I'm preparing for another year of insurance sales - most of which take place in the last part of the year, and in the first 3 months of the next. The providers and agencies have been concerned about keeping their teams healthy, and have provided online & phone options for enrollment. So, I may do even more this year, as I will not be having to travel to see clients, but will mostly be using the distance enrollment options.

But, I'm not the norm. My life isn't greatly impeded by not being in physical contact with people who are not household members - except for the relatives I cannot visit at this time. My brother remains in the hospital, and - even if I traveled to Cleveland, whether by car or plane - I would be prevented from seeing him, or even interacting with other family members for 14 days.

But, for most people, their jobs cannot be done at a distance. Some have been classified as essential, and encouraged to work, despite the risk to themselves. Others are prevented from working, no matter how careful they are to clean/disinfect/distance/mask.

I'm not alone in believing this to be planned, and intentional. The objective was to trash the formerly recovering economy that Trump enabled.

Well done, Leftists. The deficit is skyrocketing, the personal finances of many (despite the badly-needed checks from the Feds) is cratering, and the real estate market is in free-fall in many cities. I'm lucky in owning a home in a smaller city, really a suburb of Charlotte. Our local sales are thriving, as people from Charlotte are taking what they can get for their homes, and relocating further away from the Leftist chaos.

I am hopeful, but not confident, of this year's election outcome. If the Left gets installed - even for four years, any chance of America having a non-Leftist future may be over. The Left will change the rules/manage the districting/and enable the vote-stealing, so that true democracy will never be possible again.

We have no other country on this Earth to escape to. I've no doubt that, should Patriots retreat to the hills to resist, the Left will, if they have no other way to keep in power, nuke those areas that are holding out (that 'nuking' may be viral in nature).

I'm a survivor. I've surrounded myself with people who are flexible, canny, and not prone to laying down and giving up. I've no doubt that my husband will be fighting to his last breath to protect his family and loved ones.

But, for my country, and those who love her, I am concerned.


Indicting The Ism

     I had no idea that Vlad is still blogging. Here’s the Sunday punch from his comments on the recent Netflix production about Stalin’s Holodomor, Mr. Jones:

     The Ukrainian genocide, you would think from the film, was not the fault of communism. No of course not. It was the fault of a hedonistic, corrupt, megalomaniac, sex fiend, white-male, American who worked for the New York Times and perhaps Stalin who was not doing things right. ‘Imperfect’ let’s say.

     What they do not tell you, is that it is Communism that did this Genocide.

     That Stalin was a good communist in the way that Mohammad was a good Muslim and Dr. Mengele was a good Nazi. They were all excellent representations of the ideology they believed in and acted on.

     Contemporary socialists and communists will froth at the mouth upon reading or hearing such statements. They’re determined to protect their favored ism against logical or moral assaults. The mere suggestion that socialism requires a Stalin – that it elevates a Stalin to power as surely as the Sun will rise in the east this morning – is enough to provoke them to violence. So they bellow “That wasn’t real socialism!” or “Socialism works, it was the fault of the men in power!” Absolutely anything rather than admit that their ism brings about the same consequences each and every time it’s tried.

     All that having been said, there is a problem with trying to indict a system of belief in isolation from the conduct of the men who will govern it. For there is no scheme of government that eliminates the requirement for men – fallible men, men with individual drives, interests, and agendas – to impose and administer it upon the rest of us.

     Indeed, that’s the Joker in the deck of government itself.


     I know, I know: the above sounds like a brief for anarchism. And in truth, I was once inclined to look favorably, even longingly upon anarchism. Governmental terrors and predations constitute a pretty good argument that the whole idea of government – i.e., that some men should wield power over others – is inherently faulty. Quoth Allan Sherman:

     Every government is a geejy bird.
     The geejy bird is a strange creature; it flies only once in its lifetime, but that flight is a spectacle to behold. The geejy bird appears suddenly, standing on a limb, young, elegant, proud, and respectable.      Even the friendliest geejy birds share certain boorish instincts with the disgusting ones. The species is fundamentally predatory. Thus, over a 200-year period the American geejy bird slowly gobbled up all the power it could eat, until it began to look suspiciously like the Louis XIV geejy bird.
     Sometimes I get so mad at government, I could almost become an anarchist—but not quite. In my opinion, anarchy is nothing more than the embryo of government—an inadvertent way to hatch another geejy bird, and there are enough geejy birds already.

     Yes. Despite my quondam flirtation with anarchism, it’s as flawed as any other scheme of social organization. Its instability gives birth to governments, and as Allan Sherman has said, there are enough governments already.

     But my larger point is about the isms promulgated by theorists of all sorts. None of them can be rendered immune to the dynamic of power. Friedrich Hayek’s analysis of this phenomenon in The Road to Serfdom remains unrefuted – probably irrefutable on this side of the Second Coming.

     Joh Gall, in his neglected book Systemantics, made a powerful case that systems of all sorts operate in failure mode most of the time. But why would men avid for power want to preside over a failing system? The key to harmonizing this insight with Hayek’s is the realization that the standards of the rulers are not those of the ruled.

     By the standards of the ruler, the system might be working fabulously. After all, it gives him what he wants: power, pelf, prestige, and perquisites. That those things are taken from others by force needn’t trouble him, as long as he remains in power. As for what would come next, he prefers to leave future problems to future solvers and solutions.

     By the standards of the ruled, the system has defaulted on its promises to him. Perhaps it promised him freedom. Yet laws and regulations strangle him even in his most private affairs. Perhaps it promised him economic security. Yet the State’s consumption of his earnings bites more deeply with every passing year, to say nothing of the instability of his income in a regime where the very meanings of the words in which the laws are written can be reversed by men in black robes. Or perhaps it promised him safety. Yet the police are limp in the face of ever-increasing, ever-escalating street crime, and the nation’s borders are colander-porous.

     No matter what ism supposedly animates those in the corridors of power, over time the system will be perverted toward the satisfaction of the private interests of the rulers, and be damned to what they may have promised the ruled. Yes, Gentle Reader: constitutionalism as well. The sole difference among them is how long it will take for tyrants to rise to the levers of power.


     God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all and always well-informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. We have had thirteen States independent for eleven years. There has been one rebellion. That comes to one rebellion in a century and a half for each State. What country before ever existed a century and a half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon, and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure. – Thomas Jefferson, in a letter to William Smith, shortly after Shay’s Rebellion in New England.

     The ism is inseparable from the men who preside over it – and men cannot be trusted with power. But when an ism is founded on the use of power to fetter and dispossess some to slake the grievances of others, it starts life perverse and evil. That automatically refutes every collectivism ever proposed: fascism, socialism, communism, every variety of theocracy, and every other scheme put forth by some utopian theorist who’s had a vision in his cave. They are evil ab initio.

     The cure is revolution...yet as has been observed all too frequently, the typical revolution doesn’t make matters better, but worse:

     Those who have seized power, even for the noblest of motives soon persuade themselves that there are good reasons for not relinquishing it. This is particularly likely to happen if they believe themselves to represent some immensely important cause. They will feel that their opponents are ignorant and perverse; before long they will come to hate them...The important thing is to keep their power, not to use it as a means to an eventual paradise. And so what were means become ends, and the original ends are forgotten except on Sundays. – Bertrand Russell

     Feel free to argue with me. But don’t imagine that I’ll allow you to avoid defining your terms and your standards. I’m funny that way.

Actions have consequences.


Question - Which party do the OWNERS of those mansions contribute to? Answer (perhaps suprisingly) - The Democrats.

Bonus Question: Which one will they not have the money to contribute to in the future?

Actions have consequences. Do try not to laugh at the sudden change of heart when the lawlessness hits home - that's how Death Wish's protagonist made his transformation from knee-jerk Liberal to gun-toting Avenger.

And, sadly, Actions WILL have Consequences - it seems, very soon - yes, even for those Liberals who have been supporting these "mostly peaceful" protests. The pity is that they will not be the only ones who suffer.

I once read that most people, however stupid, can reason from A to B - that is, if the consequence immediately follows the action, they will 'get it'. And, in the process, learn not to poke the sleeping cat.

The trouble is, there are a lot of people - not especially slow mentally, just lethargic in their thinking process, whether due to drug use, too much passive entertainment, or just a "being young and stupid" thing - who cannot make that connection between A and C. Or, harder, A to B to C to D.

Consequences that are not immediate and delivered by the same object they just poked will not provide the useful lesson. For them, it's just Bad Luck, or That Person Had it 'in' for Me, or, the favorite right now, You're All Just Racist!

They never examine just what might have led to their current situation, and ask the very useful question: What could I have done to contribute to this situation, and how could I avoid another like it in the future?

That's why so many people, as soon as they are released from prison, go right back to doing whatever landed them in that place.

Some do escape that fate. A few of them have what is hoped for, a personal awakening, followed by learning how to change that dreaded future, AND doing the work to make it happen. Some of them are successes at that change.

Others WANT to change, but - it takes a lot of effort, and it's easier just to do the same as they did before.

And some never get beyond blaming everyone for their predicament, except for the one person who is responsible - themselves.

I believe it was Heinlein who wrote that the mark of an adult is that he takes responsibility for his actions. Those who do not can never be considered grown. They are children, in all but size (no reflection on the many children who have developed consciences, taken responsibility for their actions, and learned discipline and self-control).

Both parents and educators have some responsibility for this (again, not all, but those who do bear the blame have screwed up a whole lot of people). I'm sure that "raising a feckless and irresponsible person" wasn't their agenda, but - that was the result. So, yes, it's their responsibility.

Unfortunately, often the consequences merely affect the person responsible. Often, there are others, who just happened to be near, who suffer the effects of their carelessness.

One More Insane Decision from the Supreme Court

Casinos can operate at 50% capacity.

Churches can have no more than 50 people inside. Or, if you live in CA, maybe OUTSIDE, as well. Even in their cars, individually attending with just their family inside.

It's official - these are the Crazy Years that Heinlein warned us about. I don't know whether he meant that the events going on around us were crazy, or that Normals would be driven crazy. But, both are happening right now.

I'm tired. I got a phone call yesterday that my kid brother had been admitted to the hospital again (he has both liver and pancreas troubles). Today, I was trying to decide whether to fly up, and my sister reminded me that the rules for hospitals meant that I wouldn't be able to visit him (she was the one who took that responsibility). No more than ONE person for all the time they are in the hospital.

Quarantine rules for OH mean that I wouldn't be able to visit anyone for 14 days after I arrived in town, anyway. Can't see staying in a hotel that long. We may have to look into either moving there permanently, or renting an inexpensive apartment to use when we travel.

On the positive side, our grandson has been cleared to begin seeing people outside of his family. The bad news? The first family he visited came down with illness the day after (probably just an intestinal virus). I haven't seen my family, other than one of my daughters, in almost seven months.

A Century-Long Effort to Destroy America

  • Government "non-political service" - the bureaucracy - has been completely co-opted by the Left, and their allies, the Official Democratic Party. The Dems rode the Leftist Tiger, telling themselves they were just using it for the ride. Later, when their power had solidified, they would get off, and bid the Tiger farewell. Until they tried it, and discovered the truth of the saying, "Who rides a Tiger dare not dismount".
  • Education - from pre-school (a Leftist idea that separated children from their family's teaching and influence) through high school, college, and the increasingly common place to postpone actually having to support oneself - graduate/professional schools - Leftists are solidly in charge at every level. Even in church-supported and affiliated schools, the Leftist agenda is imposed. Only the very few dissident church-supported or independent schools is the Leftist curriculum not firmly established.
  • Work - The HR departments are where the takeover started - it's spread from there, but that's where the rot is burrowed in, good. The only way to fight this is to find other places to get the work done (ADT, employment agencies/search firms, employee benefits management companies). Find SEVERAL to do the assorted jobs (do NOT put yourself at the mercy of just one outfit), and - with a surgical cut, quick and unexpected, bring in the staff on a weekend, and hand out the pink slips. Have IT on hand to secure the computers and access to them, and an outsourced security firm. IT should be pretty cool with the bloodbath - the guys that work there tend to regard the Woke as a major pain in the a$$.
  • Churches and NGO's - here, you have to use stealth and duplicity. Hire a PI firm, get the goods on the Woke staff - believe me, most of them will have dirt, whether financial, moral, or associational. If there is an actionable criminal case, have your lawyers draw up the paperwork that has two choices: quit and sign the agreement (including payback if financial), and admitting guilt, and they can leave without prosecution. Fight it, and be dragged into a long, expensive court battle - with CRIMINAL record being one of those possibilities. For the rest, re-organization/elimination of their job, along with steady pressure on those remaining to quit ASAP. If the rot in place is too widespread, form a break-away group, and set up your own organization. This can be difficult with some organizations, like the Catholic Church. It may be better to do without that community than to live with what they have become.
Let your money flow to NLDs (Non-Leftist Dissidents). Do not feed the vipers.

Now, the Left is not FORCING us to live in identical houses - unless, of course, you don't want to live in properly 'dense' housing in the city.

And, they aren't FORCING us to spout the words of the Holy Church of BLM, letter-perfect, lest we be damned - which, we won't. We'll just risk losing our jobs, our families, and our friendships. Oh, and if we don't "get it" then, well, they'll just pressure companies to REFUSE SERVICES to those using unapproved words.

Nothing to do with Free Speech. People will still have free speech. Unless they want to use it online, or in books or videos, or resisting the pressure to conform at work, at home, and in their so-called free time.

It's funny, people who once decried the sameness of suburbia and their parents' lives, now aspire to REQUIRE conformity in every aspect of every American's life.

Or else.

It's also a scream - well, maybe not FUNNY, but definitely a scream - 


the way that the Left approves of this dissent - 


yet, is so intolerant of this kind.


I feel so blessed to be retired, and no longer dependent on the Official Stamp of Approval from the Left. I no longer fear the consequences of dissent; no one can fire me, or threaten my livelihood.

We who have that EARNED privilege need to lead the way. We need to stand up for all those who dare to Not Conform to the Left's demands.

And, vote. Definitely vote.

But, also prepare for CW 2.0 - it may follow, just as open warfare followed Lincoln's election.

Just never bow down to pressure.

The Bayonet Is Advancing

     A certain Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, better known to most who know of him as Nikolai Lenin, advised his fellow Communist agitators and insurrectionists to “Probe with the bayonet. If you meet steel, stop. If you meet mush, push.” To those who seek to bring down a country, it’s sound tactical advice. Just as in ground warfare, the soft points in a nation are the places to attack. Hurling your forces against their strongest positions only guarantees a high body count.

     The coverage of the violence and vandalism that has overtaken many American cities makes it clear that the Antifa / “Black Lives Matter” insurrectionists have selected genuinely soft points against which to “probe.” Indeed, in Seattle, the police have been deprived of all non-lethal crowd-control weapons. They face a choice between firing live ammo at the insurrectionists and doing nothing. So Seattle’s police chief has told them to do nothing:

     In other words, Seattle has gone belly-up to the insurrectionists. The city’s “forces of order” have shrugged and walked away. While nothing quite as stark has happened in any other riot-torn city yet, the mayors and police of those cities have exhibited a similar degree of inanition.

     What remains are the active-duty United States Army, the National Guard, and the armed citizen.


     I’ve said more than once that we cannot remain on defense. We are at war, and have been for some time now. Those prosecuting the war have cast aside all pretense. Many of the insurrectionists are carrying firearms. Some have already exchanged fire with others who would oppose them. If the insurrectionists are not thrown onto the defense by some equally capable force, we will lose the country. The forlorn hope that “the police will protect us” has been shown to be a phantasm.

     On that score, Michelle Malkin, herself a recent victim of the insurrectionists, has a few thoughts for you:

     It's not "socialism" or "communism" under which we suffer. Our dangerously chaotic, selectively oppressive predicament is more accurately described as "anarcho-tyranny." The late conservative columnist Sam Francis first coined the term in 1992 to diagnose a condition of "both anarchy (the failure of the state to enforce the laws) and, at the same time, tyranny — the enforcement of laws by the state for oppressive purposes."...

     Anarcho-tyranny is how hoodlums can toss statues into rivers with impunity, while citizens disgusted by Black Lives Matter street graffiti are charged with "hate crimes" — as David Nelson and Nicole Anderson in Martinez, California, were by a George Soros-funded district attorney two weeks ago.

     Anarcho-tyranny is how rioters can shut down highways and byways on a whim without fear of arrest, while commuters trying to escape the window-smashing barbarians obstructing traffic are charged with "assault" — as poor Jennifer Watson of Denver, Colorado, was this week.

     Anarcho-tyranny is how hordes of gay pride activists marching shoulder to shoulder can defy social distancing guidelines with gushing approbation from radical left-wing medical "experts," while anti-lockdown and anti-mask mandate protesters are deemed public health menaces who now face snitch hotlines, fines, house arrest or jail time.

     Anarcho-tyranny is how 1,000 black militia members can take over the streets in Georgia and point their guns at motorists as they demand reparations, while white citizen militia members in Idaho, Utah and New Mexico have been smeared publicly as racists and face injunctions for peacefully defending their neighborhoods.

     Sam Francis’s vision was prescient. Our countrymen in the riot-torn cities would surely agree.


     I haven’t got anything more to say that I haven’t said more than once already, and I’m not going to wear out my fingers with pointless repetition. Instead I’ll let one of my favorite colleagues, David De Gerolamo of N.C. Renegade, close this essay:

     War is not coming. It is here. If you need any more proof than the shortage of available firearms and ammunition, look to the censorship of the news from the front. War may not be at your doorstep today, but any sapient individual understands that time is of the essence.

     As COVID-19 has now become the government’s means to control us, our work and our food supply, do you think they will abate? The time to have prepared for your supplies is in the past. The time to recognize that the war is here is now. The actions we take today will impact how our children will live in the future. From what I see and hear, Communism is winning and we are kneeling.

     It’s time to get off our knees: to lock, load, close with the enemy, and destroy it. All the less demanding options we’ve relied upon have failed us.
