...you really don't realize just how much they hate you.
They really do. They want anyone - no matter how young, innocent, or determinedly non-oppostional to their plans - dead.
Dead.
Dead.
It's not everyone in that column. The go-alongs, who are sucked in because that side is the "nice, compassionate group", mostly are against your death.
Mostly.
Although, they WILL stand by, making sure that you haven't the means to avoid it, helping those that DO want you dead to keep you confined until such time as your death can be arranged.
They would prefer this - assumption of body temperature - takes place out of their sight. Like in the abortion facilities - they are REALLY against those icky pictures that show what is happening. God forbid that the 'reality-based' lifeforms face the cold reality of the consequences of their principles.
But, they want you dead more than they want to have to face up to the fact that they cooperated with Evil. If only they can - um - eliminate your inconvenient shouting of the facts, they can rest easy - sort of - at night. They are not pro-death, exactly.
They just prefer to have these necessary deaths occur out of their sight, and with euphemistic words hiding the reality. So they can still think of themselves as good people.
I pity them. I really do. Most of them have gone along for so long, built up their friendships and alliances, that, if they walked away now, they would be sadly adrift. No friends. No emotional support for a difficult future. They would have to face their complicity with no soft phrases to soothe their conscience.
Instead, they are hanging together, telling themselves comforting stories, bolstering up their fragile sense of decency.
Whistling in the wind.
God help them when the truth becomes so evident that they can no longer lie to themselves.

Being A Proper Authoritarian
No, this will be an entirely nonpolitical piece. What’s on my mind this morning is a phenomenon I’ve long wondered whether any other writer shares: the sense that we lack complete authority over our own works-in-progress.
The late Florence King, in one of her book review columns, wrote that it’s the role of an author to be an authoritarian. However, I don’t remember what she was commenting on at the time and can no longer find the link. What I’m thinking of is the curious authority of the words themselves, once they’re in the manuscript.
There are several necessities involved in putting a novel together:
- Settling on a theme;
- Imagining a plot that would dramatize it;
- Conceiving of characters suited to acting out the plot;
- Composing a series of events to generate the necessary clashes;
- Setting those events in a timeline that’s both plausible and compelling;
- Working out both the resolution and the pointers forward into the unwritten future.
Yes, it’s a lot of work – and after you’ve managed all six of those steps, you still have to write the BLEEP!ing thing. So it’s understandable that a writer will be reluctant to do it, or any significant parts of it, more than once in a given novel-project. But sometimes it’s imperative...yet at those moments it can be even harder to face than usual.
An example: I submitted my first draft of On Broken Wings to an excellent free-lance editor – Rafe, if you’re out there anywhere, I hope you’re well and happy – who gigged the manuscript for a number of minor blemishes and one major one. The major one involved a love scene, which had cost me enormous effort to write. Rafe criticized it as unbearably sappy. While I eventually came to agree with Rafe’s assessment, I was massively reluctant to resculpt that scene. Indeed, it seemed impossible.
Why? For a supremely bizarre reason: it was there. It was “in the past.” My characters had already acted it out. That alone made it seem immutable.
Pretty weird, eh, Gentle Reader? I mean, you already knew that I’m fairly strange, but...well, never mind. My reluctance to excise the offending scene and write a replacement was stronger than you can imagine. I eventually did, of course, to the considerable improvement of the book. Still, that bizarre sense of the author’s lack of authority over his own work has recurred on several subsequent occasions, including in my most recent novel, Innocents, and in Experienced, the sequel under construction.
It probably has something to do with the characterization process. If your characters are “strong” – i.e., if you have a vivid, nicely detailed conception of them that propels how they respond to the crap you put them through – substantially altering a particular scene can make you feel as if you’re being untrue to them. It can be tough to retain your conception of your characters, especially your Marquee characters, when you have to put a scene significant to your vision of them “under the knife.”
What is more valuable to a novel than vividly conceived characters? You certainly wouldn’t want your major protagonists and antagonists to be weakly colored. Yet the “stronger” they are in that sense, the more likely it is that you’ll need to do major surgery on one or more scenes in your first draft: not merely rewording a few sentences here and there, but removing the originally narrated action and replacing it entirely. And that requires being a proper authoritarian: declaring to your characters that “Thou shalt not behave the way I originally had you acting,” and redoing their deeds and / or the scene in which they occur.
It strikes me that this is less likely to be a significant concern to short-story writers. In a short story, the animating idea is all; the characters can’t be allowed a lot of room for hijinks. However, we do have one classic and very funny case available: the famous “tandem story” of Laurie and Carl:

The story is over when both agree a conclusion has been reached.
At first, Laurie couldn’t decide which kind of tea she wanted. The camomile, which used to be her favorite for lazy evenings at home, now reminded her too much of Carl, who once said, in happier times, that he liked camomile. But she felt she must now, at all costs, keep her mind off Carl. His possessiveness was suffocating, and if she thought about him too much her asthma started acting up again. So camomile was out of the question.Meanwhile, Advance Sergeant Carl Harris, leader of the attack squadron now in orbit over Skylon 4, had more important things to think about than the neuroses of an air-headed asthmatic bimbo named Laurie with whom he had spent one sweaty night over a year ago. “A.S. Harris to Geostation 17,” he said into his transgalactic communicator. “Polar orbit established. No sign of resistance so far...” But before he could sign off a bluish particle beam flashed out of nowhere and blasted a hole through his ship’s cargo bay. The jolt from the direct hit sent him flying out of his seat and across the cockpit.
He bumped his head and died almost immediately, but not before he felt one last pang of regret for psychically brutalizing the one woman who had ever had feelings for him. Soon afterwards, Earth stopped its pointless hostilities towards the peaceful farmers of Skylon 4. “Congress Passes Law Permanently Abolishing War and Space Travel.” Laurie read in her newspaper one morning. The news simultaneously excited her and bored her. She stared out the window, dreaming of her youth—when the days had passed unhurriedly and carefree, with no newspapers to read, no television to distract her from her sense of innocent wonder at all the beautiful things around her. “Why must one lose one’s innocence to become a woman?” she pondered wistfully.
Little did she know, but she had less than 10 seconds to live. Thousands of miles above the city, the Anu’udrian mothership launched the first of its lithium fusion missiles. The dim-witted wimpy peaceniks who pushed the Unilateral Aerospace Disarmament Treaty through Congress had left Earth a defenseless target for the hostile alien empires who were determined to destroy the human race. Within two hours after the passage of the treaty the Anu’udrian ships were on course for Earth, carrying enough firepower to pulverize the entire planet. With no one to stop them they swiftly initiated their diabolical plan. The lithium fusion missile entered the atmosphere unimpeded. The President, in his top-secret mobile submarine headquarters on the ocean floor off the coast of Guam, felt the inconceivably massive explosion which vaporized Laurie and 85 million other Americans. The President slammed his fist on the conference table. “We can’t allow this! I’m going to veto that treaty! Let’s blow ‘em out of the sky!”
This is absurd. I refuse to continue this mockery of literature. My writing partner is a violent, chauvinistic, semi-literate adolescent.
Yeah? Well, you’re a self-centered tedious neurotic whose attempts at writing are the literary equivalent of Valium.

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall the next time those two encountered one another. But back to my main query: Are there any other writers out there who’ve had the sense of lacking the author’s proper authority over your own work? The public wants to know!
The GOP’s inner dweeb army.
Once he won the election, the political establishment adjusted its tactics. Paul Ryan rallied the dweeb army inside the GOP to basically ignore Trump’s agenda. That’s why nothing happened on the border wall, immigration or infrastructure. The point is being made that working with Trump would be death for any Republican. In fact, the leadership went out of its way to make sure nothing Trump wanted was in the last budget. The message was being sent that the people in charge saw Trump as a hostile outsider to be resisted.Silence of the grave. Where is the outrage?Even as the evidence of a sedition plot to alter the 2016 campaign mounts, you’ll notice that the grandees of the House GOP are stone silent on the matter.[1]
My severest criticism of Donald Trump is that he appears not to know that he’s president. He complains about Sessions and Rosenstein but does not remove them. Karl Denninger’s trademark “take no prisoners” take on that is great.
The Republicans in the House are doing yeoman’s work to get to the bottom of what can only be seen as a constitutional crisis but Trump lifts not a finger to force the release of unredacted documents or punish bureaucrats who stonewall congressional subpoenas.
Adam Lovinger, a whistleblower formerly with DOD, is hung out to dry by Trump even though he has exposed the payment of enormous sums of money to an odd Cambridge professor who’s been a “consultant” to the FBI on the Trump presidential campaign. Any lights going on in the presidential noggin? Not so’s you’d notice. Good luck Mr. Lovinger in your new career. Don't delude yourself that the president has your back.
But, it’s the same in the GOP as a whole. It seems more invested in the Never Trump phenomenon and even actively obstructs Trump as witness the last appropriation act that was nothing less than a studied insult to Trump. True to form, though, Trump meekly rolled over with only feeble protest.

I still marvel at the vagueness of the Mueller charge. What the heck are the limits of his partisan probe into the dusty attics and overgrown graveyards of America? By all appearances he’s got carte blanche to investigate even global warming climate change denial. This is mixed with federal prosecutorial power and blatant partisanship into a nasty cocktail that is no good for anyone. Is there any other nation on earth that in the name of fastidiousness and objectivity that periodically looses such cannons on the deck of a ship in heavy seas?

Likewise, in the tsunami of hysterical rage following Trump’s meeting with Putin in Helsinki on July 16, we have been told any number of times that there existed a “consensus” of U.S. intelligence agencies on the Russian interference in American elections. That is simply not true! There are 16 Federal intelligence agencies in the United States; yet Obama’s select top operatives in just two of them, Brennan (CIA) and Comey (FBI) handpicked analysts to prepare a fact-free report which concluded that there was a high probability of Russian interference. The NSA did not accept this finding, it insisted on a far lower level of certainty. The other 13 agencies were kept out of the loop altogether.

Criminality and Privilege
It's a well-understood truism that the well-connected can get away with murder.
Sometimes literally.
I've been reading Three Felonies a Day, by Peter Schweitzer, and it's been an eye-opener.
CORRECTION - It's Harvey Silvergate who wrote Three Felonies; it's Schweizer (no T in the name) who wrote Clinton Cash. The books are listed one above the other in my Kindle, and I just screwed the attribution up.
I'm like a lot of people. I generally assume that the world is NOT out to get me. Nor, for that matter, is the government inherently an evil thing.
However, after reading the book, and this post, I have to question the 'Justice System' - particularly that part of it that is involved with prosecution.

The Snores Are In The Details
I know how to concentrate. I know that concentration is the key to comprehension, especially when the subject is riddled with byways. I know how to isolate the distractions and wall them off. And I’ve tried, as manfully as I know how, to stay awake over the doings of, and connections among, the Deep State players in the anti-Trump forces slowly being unearthed. I can’t do it.
The Conservative Treehouse / Last Refuge has done valiant work at following this slowly developing story. Other sites have contributed as well. But how many people are paying attention? And what’s likely to follow the conclusion of the investigation?
I’d imagine that most Americans have tuned out by now. The operation is too broadly distributed. There are too many dots to be connected. No one involved in the scheme lacks some prospect of exculpation. Perhaps worst of all, despite the dogged efforts of those who are slowly assembling the story, it’s unlikely that any of them will ever be sent up the river.
Even keeping all the names straight has become impossible. Forget about keeping it all in sequence. Who did what to whom, and on what date? Who got paid, and where did the money come from? Were higher-ups involved? Were they “higher up” at the time, or did their elevations come afterward?
You can conceal anything from others’ eyes, yet keep it nominally “in the open,” by scattering its components among a sufficient number of collaborators.
This is the “Deep” aspect of the Deep State: its web of innumerable bureaudrones, widely scattered and deeply deployed in the bowels of the “permanent government.” It’s the most frustrating – to an investigator – variety of operational security: the operation was buried in so many details, each one seemingly inconsequential until it’s connected to the rest, that most Americans will fall asleep before the whole picture can be seen and judged.
And it is among the best arguments I know for the complete elimination of the federal bureaucracy.
My admiration for Co-Contributor Linda Fox knows no bounds. She too has done her best to follow the interweaving of the threads...and it’s worn her down. Perversely, that makes me feel a trifle better. Not a lot, but some: the sort of “better” that comes of knowing that one is not alone.
The thesis of the burn-it-down / start-from-scratch camp has much to recommend it. How else does one untangle a Gordian knot? How else does one clear a square mile thicket of poisoned thorns? What other course would, after completion, leave a patriot feeling that life is worth living?
I keep looking for that planetoid, and it stubbornly refuses to appear.
The common wish for a champion, an Alexander who can and will slice all the way through the tangles the Deep State has wound around us, is the reason for the elevation of Donald Trump to the presidency. Certainly no one nurtured by the political Establishment would have sufficed. Neither would anyone soft-spoken enough to be regarded by the “better sort” as harmless, easily defeasible. We needed a brawler, and whether or not we were conscious of the need, that’s what we elected.
Trouble is, the Deep State, like any other colony organism, has a will to survive. From the instant Trump passed 270 electoral college votes, they who hold its tiller went to work on their plan for nullifying his presidency. Today, a little short of two years from that event, they’re still at it, even as dedicated sleuths strive to puzzle out each of the threads in their web.
Yes, the Deep State has the support of many whose names we do know. Yes, should the webs woven around President Trump cause him to stagger and fall, they will applaud and tell us that “we told you so.” And yes, there’s nothing the political Establishment would like better than for the whole thing to blow over, so that we can return to the nice, quiet, utterly manageable status quo ante.
But the operators that matter aren’t the ones whose names we know. Granted that the NeverTrumpers with bylines and talking-head gigs will benefit should the collaborators succeed. Still, the thrust of the thing isn’t to confer a benefit upon any particular person or group, but to keep the structure intact:
Winston was struck, as he had been struck before, by the tiredness of O’Brien’s face. It was strong and fleshy and brutal, it was full of intelligence and a sort of controlled passion before which he felt himself helpless; but it was tired. There were pouches under the eyes, the skin sagged from the cheekbones. O’Brien leaned over him, deliberately bringing the worn face nearer.

The structure is the enemy.
Whose decisions about you and yours are essentially unchallengeable? That is: what category of persons can override your preferences about your life, liberty, and property, and be practically certain of having the last word and not facing any cost nor penalty for having done so?Sorry! No credit for any answer but "government bureaucrats." All other arrogant and overbearing life forms are subject to some form of correction, discipline, or reprisal. The bureaucrat -- the faceless source of innumerable rules and decisions, most of which are made in secret and without either Constitutional or statutory foundation -- is so well insulated from our wrath that he can almost never be identified and can never be fired, no matter how extreme his abuses.
Without the bureaucracies, this would still be a largely free country, de facto if not de jure.
Bureaucracies are what they are -- faceless instruments of coercion beyond redress by any lawful mechanism -- by design. They function as they do because their scam serves both the interests of the political class, the interests of the bureaucrats themselves, and the interests of the many nominally private institutions that profit from the existence and function of the bureaucracy. Consider as a trivial example the symbiosis between the Internal Revenue Service and the legions of tax lawyers, tax accountants, and tax return preparation specialists; were the IRS to fall, it would drive some 200,000 of those parasites into penury.The most useful analogy available is that of an organism that has optimized itself for a particular habitat. A habitat is ideal for some organism because it copiously provides what the organism needs while disadvantaging any species inclined to prey upon it.
Five years ago, when I wrote those essays, I hadn’t yet grasped the implications of my own reasoning. Today I think I do. What about you, Gentle Reader?

While China walks away with our intellectual property, floods our markets with counterfeit goods, and brings in agents to work in their paid-for-by-the-Chinese-government 'institutes and both propagandize and turn our students to treat their positions as the only correct ones.
Not to mention the pressure brought upon Chinese students to work for their government as spies. Or, the horrible abuses that the media is ignoring. Or, the repression of the free flow of information that the Chinese government insists on from the tech companies - Google, Apple, et al.
China is not just building those military islands for the nice tropical location. They are extending their reach in the Pacific. Japan, South Korea, and Australia, to just name a few, are quite nervous about this - as they should be.

Because you sure won't read about it in the Hobbled Media.

Increasing diversity to solve the problems of increased diversity.
The Western reliance on, and need for, foreign doctors is largely illusional. We need surplus doctors only to the extent that we possess surplus populations. One of the problems of the contemporary West is not only that we have lost sight of our past, but also, and perhaps more importantly, that we have lost sight of our future. There is almost no sensible planning for the future or co-ordinated education of our youth. We live in an age where the supposed cure for every socio-economic problem is the injection of more diversity, rather than producing more children and educating them according to the needs of the present and future.The spiral is downward not upward but the contrary opinion in what passes for our culture now is like a phalanx. Witness John McCain’s response to the woman during his presidential campaign who worried about Obongo’s being a Muslim. McCain recoiled from the woman’s point like he’d just found a rattlesnake in his briefcase.The belief that importing workers is a panacea to economic pressures was always built on false foundations. The classic example is the nation bemoaning a lack of plumbers and builders, which then imports cohorts of foreign plumbers and builders – who then need many more homes to live in, requiring more plumbers and builders to construct them, and so on. Similarly, in contemporary Britain, massive pressures on the National Health Service caused by mass immigration are being “eased” via the mass immigration of dubiously-trained foreign doctors. The only result of this development is the rapid decline in the quality of service offered by the NHS, the increased danger faced by patients, and the further expansion of multiculturalism into all areas of life.
The only sensible solution to this chaos is to conclusively bring the multicultural project to an end, to repatriate the surplus populations, and eject those whose dubious “skills” are no longer required.[1]
“And never is heard a discouraging word” is the line from the song “Home on the Range.” And that, muchachos, is what anybody with career aspirations in American journalism, politics, the corporate world, adademe, and the military better internalize down to his or her toesies.
Our diversity, not only in our Army, but in our country, is a strength. And as horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that's worse."Yes, let us worship at the altar of diversity.

Hillary and Her Peeps Think That a Do-Over Would be GREAT!
I'm having a hard time believing that this is not just some insane joke.
But, no, Robert Reich is actually arguing for an - well, he calls it an Annulment. But, what he wants is essentially a Do-Over.
I can't believe that he - and anyone else who buys into this cockamamie idea - actually is STUPID enough to think that a Do-Over is a Constitutional Thing.

I'm still fighting a respiratory infection, complicated by my asthma. I've been (finally!) tackling cleaning the house - it's DESPERATELY needed it for several months. The cleaning has been slowed by the need to de-clutter. Every time either my husband or I returned from out of town, we dropped stuff, and never put it back properly.
And, last - but most important - I'm mind-bogglingly tired of the political attacks, attempts to torment revolution/resistance/violence/dissension. It's cluttered the web, social media, my telephone calls, television. Even the supposedly relaxing and NOT political cartoons, comedies, and public television is filled to the brim with not-so-hidden messages.
And, the message is always - you are an awful hate-filled racist, whose ONLY goal in life is to reimpose slavery on the non-White population.
For the Left, our every waking thought is how we can screw over other people.
I'm too busy to bother. I have a life. Which, I'm getting tired of wasting listening to idiots.
Time to turn off the TV.

This is NOT Just Partisan Politics
It is a deliberate attempt to sway an election, using ILLEGAL means of campaign contribution.
The powerful people who contributed to the Hoped-For Clinton Landslide, did so in a way that made a mockery of campaign finance laws. They used a laundering operation, through the state party sites, to conceal their contributions, and insulate them from FELONY CHARGES.
Now, I personally think the McCain/Feingold law was crap. Overly restrictive. Just about every politician's finance guys jumped right into action immediately after passage, working to find some way to get LOTS of cash into their guy's campaign, without TECHNICALLY breaking the law.
But, as long as the Dems see fit to prosecute guys like D'Souza (who, was guilty, and accepted his plea), and punish them FAR beyond the norms that usually govern this type of conviction, I'm out for blood.
They ALL - contributors, campaign finance guys, state officials who facilitated this, the national organization - should face FELONY charges, loss of voting privileges, ban for LIFE from any political activity/campaign activity, and massive fines.

The powerful people who contributed to the Hoped-For Clinton Landslide, did so in a way that made a mockery of campaign finance laws. They used a laundering operation, through the state party sites, to conceal their contributions, and insulate them from FELONY CHARGES.
Now, I personally think the McCain/Feingold law was crap. Overly restrictive. Just about every politician's finance guys jumped right into action immediately after passage, working to find some way to get LOTS of cash into their guy's campaign, without TECHNICALLY breaking the law.
But, as long as the Dems see fit to prosecute guys like D'Souza (who, was guilty, and accepted his plea), and punish them FAR beyond the norms that usually govern this type of conviction, I'm out for blood.
They ALL - contributors, campaign finance guys, state officials who facilitated this, the national organization - should face FELONY charges, loss of voting privileges, ban for LIFE from any political activity/campaign activity, and massive fines.

Quickies: To Embrace Evil
First, something my Gentle Readers will consider “obvious:” There are evil people in the world, whose evil is demonstrated by their deeds.
Second, something a little less “obvious:” He who knowingly defends evil is equally evil: an accomplice after the fact, if you will.
Third and finally, what’s slowly becoming “obvious” even to the dimmest dimbulbs of the nation: A group whose policies include defending its evil members regardless of their deeds is evil itself.
The Left, most notably its media handmaidens, routinely circles the wagons around those of its elements that visibly, admittedly commit heinous crimes. Its mouthpieces attack anyone who dares to give true coloration to such deeds and their doers. This has become most blatantly “obvious” in the case of the cowardly thugs who call themselves AntiFa.
Yes, Leftist mouthpieces defend AntiFa. Do you doubt it? Doubt no more:
Now, within an evil group there may be good people. But it is imperative that a good person who finds himself in an evil group disassociate himself from the group. For a group’s affiliations attach to all of its members.
It is impossible to say “I’m a member of AntiFa” without shouldering the evil for AntiFa’s public deeds, all of which have been both cowardly – they go masked at all times – and violent – they violently attack peaceable persons who promote conservative, patriotic, or Christian themes. It is equally impossible for venomous clowns like Jeffrey Toobin and Kamau Bell to defend AntiFa even by indirection without shouldering the evil for its deeds. And it is impossible for CNN, arguably the most partisan “news organization” in the business, to defend or retain Toobin or Bell after having heard them make such statements without earning AntiFa’s evil for its corporate self.
AntiFa’s evil is transmitted by concatenation to everyone who participates in its defense.
Can’t buy it? Seems like guilt by association? Consider this: were the violent group under discussion the Nazi Party, would you feel the same?

Here's another argument for redundancy in media outlets for Alternative Media - Wordpress is shutting down sites without explanation or appeal (those hosted on their site). I do use Wordpress for one of my blogs, but I host it myself, so I won't lose content, if push comes to shove.
The question is, will you be permitted to see it? Will your Internet Provider, Browser, or Search Engine allow you to act as an adult, and decide for yourself what is real and what is fake?

This Could be Interesting
There's a lot of fussing on the web about the NM Terrorist Compound, where a child died under suspicious circumstances.
The first protests arose when the judge decided to release the accused without bail. That's the current trend in pre-trial proceedings. The defendants were likely indigent, given their impoverished surroundings (no running water, rudimentary toilets). As a matter of justice, this has been getting to be the norm. Both the FBI and the local sheriff objected to the practice, in this case.
However, releasing the accused was not without oversight - they were required to wear ankle monitors, and cooperate with the CYS investigators.
The judge in charge, Sarah Backus, has received death threats for her action. This is not an unusual decision for the judge - she's done it for other violent offenders.
NEWS UPDATE: 3 of the accused have had the charges dropped - apparently the 10-day rule for bringing charges applies. The charges could be re-imposed, but, my guess is that they'll let this slip away.
The leader of the group, Wahhaj, whose son died under his care, will not be extradited to GA to face charges of custody interference. Federal charges have been dropped against him, and the only charges that remain are related to child abuse.
One of the formerly accused is in ICE custody - Jany Leveille, a Haitian national. Despite the Arabic names, the remainder are American citizens.
But, yes, the case is being classified as a 'possible' abuse case, involving a 'possible' exorcism on a disabled child that resulted in his death. The main defendant is the son of a famous iman, so, he may just be getting the Standard Special Treatment of Families of the Famous.
