The opposition includes ISIS. In Iraq, we are fighting as an ally of Iran and the Shia Arabs against ISIS and the Sunni Arabs. In Syria, we are effectively an ally of ISIS and the Sunni Arabs fighting against Iran, Hezbollah, Assad and the Shia Arabs.
It is notable that after several years of war against them, ISIS still controls the great majority of the the Sunni Arab territory in both Syria and Iraq. It is still able to import large numbers of fighters and large amounts of military equipment into that territory, and it has large amounts of money and branches and allies over much of the Muslim world, including Afghanistan and Philippines.
Just where does its support come from? Are we really fighting a war against ISIS?
Sorry to delay my response. I was trying to lay my hands on a source alleging that Qatar at one point provided $40 million to the jihadi scum in Syria and that the U.S. has to date provided over $1 billion to them as well. Couldn't find the source again but there's this:
Although Saudi Arabia have recently been kindly given “the Syrian card” by the United States – with Prince Bandar once again becoming “Prince of the Jihad”; it has become common knowledge that since the onset of the Syrian crisis, it was Qatar at the forefront of supplying arms and funds to both the political and militant elements of the so-called “opposition”. This has undoubtedly included tacit support of the dominant radical elements among the plethora of brigades on the ground in Syria; with Jabhat al Nusra being the most obvious beneficiary of Qatari largesse. Earlier this year it was reported that the CIA had been in direct “consultation” with the Qatari Monarchys’ network of arms smugglers – run primarily from the Emir’s palace in Doha. Accordingly, it seems certain that both the CIA and Qatari intelligence were involved in an operation to ship arms stockpiles from “rebels” in Libya; to the “rebels” in Syria: both varieties of which are inextricably linked to Al Qaeda affiliates and radical Salafi-Jihadi militants.

There is nothing mysterious about this and this source was easy to find on the web. A focus on this issue would tell the full story in no time. We are allied with ISIS and al-Qaida in Syria. Period. The people who attacked on 9/11 we now assist.
