Assorted
Just now the Fortress is in an uproar worse than the country at large, owing to some extensive renovations being performed by some extensive renovators. It’s made it difficult for me to think, as I’m constantly moving objects, animals, and people (including myself) around the house to accommodate the work being performed. So regard what follows as a random walk by my fingers.
Among the prominent public intellectuals of the day, Angelo Codevilla is a stand-out. His stuff is always worth reading, and his latest essay is no exception. Break out the time required and wallow in some routine brilliance.
Time was, I’d have said that a story such as this enraged and energized me. No longer. It's just one more confirmation of something I’ve known for a long time:
It worked for Mussolini and Hitler. It works for Islam’s jihadists. And today it’s working for Antifa and “Black Lives Matter,” which are ill-disposed to tolerate any uppity niggers who dare to leave the plantation by expressing support for President Trump.
Oooh, did I use a naughty word? Well, you know what us mick-wop honkies are like. To anyone who thinks to do anything about it: I don’t fire warning shots. Ammo’s too BLEEP!ing expensive.
Ultimately, if they actually desire the return of peace and public order, cities such as Portland and Seattle will need to “grow a pair” of their own. Federal forces cannot remain in those cities indefinitely. Which makes a story like this one something to take seriously.
Antifa and “Black Lives Matter” are like the Afghanistan Taliban. Unless “woke” city administrations get their heads recalibrated and resolve to do their most basic job – protecting the peace of the streets – the rioters can bide their time until the federal forces have withdrawn, and then start the tarantella all over again. That’s what they’ll do, too: they’ve been having too much fun to go “cold turkey.”
This one is for anyone who believes that “Blacks who aren’t out rioting in the streets ‘obviously’ must disagree with the rioters.” Think again, assholes.
A couple of days ago, I posted a “tweet” that purported to be from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the most contemptible of all our Congressvermin. A friend gave me his opinion that it was faked. He could well be right – I’m not an expert on such things – but this story suggests that even if it was a fake, it accurately expressed AOC’s sentiments nevertheless. Draw your own conclusions.
Does anyone remember “barter clubs?” They were a feature of the underground economy that sought to assist people who wanted to evade sales taxes, and in some cases, income taxes as well. Barter clubs were brought down by government infiltrators – paid snitches – who exposed the participants to severe legal penalties. A pity, really; any and every way of minimizing our outrageous tax burdens is a good thing.
The security of the barter club participant rested upon the sincerity of all the others. This story suggests that doing routine above-ground business might just have entered into that same Twilight Zone of quiet rebellion against overweening totalitarian power. The implications are ominous. If they don’t disturb you, check your pulse: you may have died and not noticed.
T. L. Davis has become something of a legend on the Web. I first encountered his writing at Washington Rebel. Since then his work has appeared at other venues and is currently to be found at 12 Round, where this fine essay appears. Please read it all.
It’s depressing how much he and I agree on the state of our nation and what must be done to restore it to health. It’s something I want to be wrong about, but with T.L. in concurrence...
Baseball is “my game.” I’ve loved it since I was a small boy. To become a professional baseball player was one of my childhood aspirations. But now it appears that it’s given in to the totalitarians of the “woke” mob.
I’m not going to follow a sport that allows itself to be politicized. Sports has been the last refuge from the hyper-politicization of our time. If I can’t watch a baseball game without being subjected to political preachments, I’ll tune in to something else. What the hell, I’ve already given up on the NFL and the NBA. Here’s hoping the NHL stands firm against this crap.
To those interested in my fiction, Love in the Time of Capitalism is coming along slowly but steadily. However, it won’t be a “pure” romance. I’ve found myself compelled to weave other threads from the Realm of Essences / Onteora Canon into it. They struck me as natural involvements for co-protagonist Evan Conklin and Supporting Cast characters Todd Iverson and Rachel MacLachlan.
Still, don’t despair. There’s romance in it, though at times it will seem to take a backseat to other developments (e.g., music, neurological nano-programming, and the Iverson Habitat). But wasn’t that also the case with Love in the Time of Cinema?
Stay tuned!

Miscellany for Summer, 2020
- 65% English, Irish, and Scottish - mostly English. No connection to royalty or people of influence, just your basic farmers, a few miners and, later, mechanics. Mostly settled into the Ohio River Valley region - Ohio, Pennsylvania (near Pittsburgh), and the part of Virginia that later became WV. A few of those VA ancestors landed in the New England area, stayed for a few years, but, by the time of the American Revolution, had settled into the place my Dad emigrated from after WWII.
- 33% Northwestern Europe - Western Germany/Eastern France (borders weren't too solid around then), Holland (before it became The Netherlands), and possibly Southern France.
- A teeny smidge of Who The Hell Knows? Anything less than 2% is up for grabs, and may indicate errors.
- Special ed - these will likely be kept, as their services are really indispensable. They may have to put up with larger classes or longer hours, but their jobs should be safe.
- Math/Science/Competent Reading/Writing teachers - many, if not most, of them will be either employed by a private business, or work independently. Good ones will be in high demand - some may move to a hybrid of video instruction coupled with individual/small group tutoring (either online or off). Some will make a fortune; most will support themselves easily.
Clarity For Nothing
(But, sadly, no “chicks for free.”)
Seriously, there are moments in the midst of what seems completely senseless turmoil that everything becomes perfectly, undeniably clear. Some of us attain clarity faster than others, owing to having paid more attention to developments and having resisted the urge to “ignore it and maybe it will go away.” But even the least attentive, most reluctant Americans, when they confront an array of stories such as this:
- The Racist New York Times: We've Discovered the Fundamental Problem With Public Education. It's (Prepared to be Stunned) White People.
- Dear White Parents, Stop Caring About Your Children
- Soros-Funded Revolutionary Prosecutor Kim Gardner's Office Tampered With Evidence to Charge The McCloskey's With Crimes
- Mentally Deranged Black Man Attacks White Women in Laundromat With Handsaw, Using It as a Slashing Weapon; Police Try to Arrest Him, But Antifa Crowds Taunt Police and Force Them to Let Him Go
- “Peak Depravity” Edition
- Pro-Life Is A Racist Term That Must Be Cancelled
...will be jarred willy-nilly into clarity.
If you haven’t yet read those stories, please do. Follow the embedded links. Reflect on the momentum being given to the vector of American dissolution – a Second Civil War – that such events and exhortations provide. Yes, just now the violence is confined to a few cities along the nation’s “blue margins.” But will it remain there? Reflect on what you would do – you personally — were the chaos to swell large enough to threaten your community.
Did I mention that I had plans to relocate my family to North Idaho? No longer, but I’ll get to that a bit later.
We are witnessing history in the making. Never before in our nation’s 200-plus years has a political movement deliberately fomented lethal tensions between the white and black races. Yet that is what is happening as we speak.
The “Black Lives Matter” movement isn’t even slightly about “black lives.” It’s about creating an Us versus Them mentality: the sort of “class struggle” tableau revolutionaries need to advance toward their objectives. Without fracturing society into mutually hostile groups, they cannot rise to power. A society at relative peace will always reject their demands.
The violence is the giveaway. Violence polarizes a society. It inculcates a survival attitude in those at whom the violence is aimed. Thus, we see hordes of decent persons fleeing the riot-torn cities as fast as they can. They’re fleeing the violence, certainly, but there’s more: they’re internalizing the Us versus Them attitude. Their refuges, which are nearly uniformly white, will fiercely resist any influx of blacks. The folks already there already fear what could happen if blacks move in, and the folks moving there are learning to fear it through immediate experience.
Ironically, the overwhelming majority of American blacks are peaceable, responsible people. Self-supporting. Sincere Christians. But the non-conforming fraction – this may be as low as 1% or as high as 20% – are spoiling for a fight, and doing their damnedest to make it happen. Why? Because they think white Americans can be had. They’ve been convinced by the demagogues that they can beat us into giving them what they want: above-the-law status, generous, labor-free incomes, and complete dominance of the government sector.
The Democrat Party hopes to profit from the disorder, but only a handful of their figures are among the fomenters. This is much more about the aspirations of totalitarian revolutionists who’ve decided that this is their best chance to strike...that there may never be a better one. And given the confusion and disharmony that has flowed from the Russian Collusion hoax-coup and the Chinese Coronavirus shutdowns, they could well be right.
What will come of all this depends on who will mobilize to do the jobs local and state governments have (so far) refused to do. That is: to pacify the chaos-stricken regions by force.
We have police forces and a military to maintain peace in the streets and to put down insurrections. Yet with very few exceptions, our local and state “authorities” have refused to given them the appropriate orders. Indeed, President Trump has been vilified, even condemned, for sending federal forces to Portland, where the violence and vandalism are currently the worst. Figures on the Left have called him a dictator for using federal agents to restore order and protect federal property. Some have called the deployments a “rehearsal” for what Trump would do should he lose his bid for re-election.
It’s unacceptable, from bottom to top. That Democrat office holders who have no excuse for not knowing better should dare to denounce the president for doing his Constitutionally assigned job is beyond the pale. Yet there are several such, including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and Congress can do nothing about them.
They would like to paralyze President Trump, so the riots can go on indefinitely. They believe that would increase the Left’s chances in the November balloting. Whether it’s within their power to do so, I cannot say. However, I can say what would be required of us were federal forces somehow restrained from acting in the face of such an obvious insurrection.
Decent private-citizen Americans would have to rise up – and I don’t mean by voting.
That’s why I’ve decided to remain on Long Island. I anticipate a time in which we who love America as founded – the bastion of liberty this website celebrates – must take up arms to defend it. As old as I am, I refuse to run from the confrontation. I will be there, and I will participate to the best of my ability and armament. I expect that many Americans as old or older will be there with me.
No, I don’t anticipate it with pleasure. I fear it. It would cost many lives, possibly including mine. The toll on the nation would eclipse that of the first Civil War. But we who love this country must be ready to defend it.
A dear, departed friend of great wisdom and insight once said to me: “If you think the time has come to fight, grab your gun and your gear and go stand on your porch. Then look toward your neighbors’ porches. If they have done the same, then go forth with them to join the battle. If they haven’t, go back inside and wait, for the time has not yet come.”
Perhaps the time has not yet come. Perhaps the Trump Administration will act with dispatch and vigor, now that it’s clear that the Democrat mayors and governors of the afflicted cities and states are willing that the chaos should continue. But we cannot wait for much longer...and I think we will not.

They're Cornered, and Have Nothing to Lose
The Limits of Science and Reason
When No Real Locale Will Serve
Stephen King has Castle Rock, Maine.
Scott Turow has Kindle County, Illinois.
William Faulkner had Yoknapatawpha County, Mississippi.
And I have Onteora County, New York.
There are no such places, of course. Yet quite a lot of interesting stuff – headline-making, really – happens in each of them. I have no idea whether King, Turow, or Faulkner’s ghost is ever asked this, but one of the questions I get most frequently from readers of my fiction is “Why did you have to invent a fictional county to site your stories in?”
Well, sometimes no real place will serve. Sometimes the general knowledge readers bring to the fiction they select is just too great – too likely to undermine what every storyteller must get from his readers: the willing suspension of disbelief. I know I’d be lost without it, because of the strangeness of my tales and the larger-than-life heroes I prefer to depict.
It’s best to avoid the use of real places if your aim is to speak of world-class intellects and men of unprecedented moral courage. There’s a shortage of both varieties. The problem intensifies if you intend to create a whole lot of them – which I did.
In part this is an aspect of the prevailing cynicism: the “people just aren’t like that” / “no real person would take such risks or make such sacrifices” attitude that’s endemic to our time. Yet it’s my firm conviction that people need heroes. We need to admire their deeds and hope someday to rise to their level. It’s why good parents still tell the great myths of Greek legend to their youngsters...and why far too many youngsters who never hear a heroic story grow up admiring sports figures and entertainers.
But if you need a place where a gaggle of heroes can germinate and blossom into national or global stature, a fictional place will probably serve you better than any real locale.
There are variations on this practice that ought to be compared. For example, consider the current trend in romance toward the employment of a very rich male co-protagonist: a multimillionaire or billionaire. There are a slew of such books out there, and from what I can determine they’re very popular. Yet how many ultra-rich persons are there really, and how many of them make it into their thirties and forties without being securely mated, pre-nuptial agreements and all, and thus romance-proof?
I’ve used that motif too. However, I “flipped the script” in my short romance Love in the Time of Cinema, by making the girl the multimillionaire. That’s certainly a valid approach...but candidly, it’s even less realistic than the prevailing tendency, in which the male protagonist is the rich one. (“You can’t do anything the usual way, can you?” – my wife. Heh, heh, heh! Just wait till she reads Love in the Time of Capitalism!)
Of course, the “extreme” pole of this practice occurs in the outright speculative genres of fantasy (The Warm Lands), science fiction (Which Art In Hope), and horror. Some things require whole new worlds – even whole new universes. That’s the case when you want to break a few of the laws of physics, not just those of Congress. And once again, the great ones, the Tolkiens and Benfords, do what they must to make it work.
As I wrote above, it’s about the willing suspension of disbelief: getting the reader to accept the premises of the story. If you can’t win that from him, he won’t get full value from your tale. But this is a special case of the much larger subject of the rules of storytelling: doing what you must do to please the reader with the tale you hope to stell him. Ultimately, that’s the one and only absolute rule. All the others are useful guidelines. The aspiring writer must absorb and respect them, but as he matures he will learn that each of them, like all rules for doing anything practical, has a proper domain of application. Outside that domain – the regions on the storyteller’s map marked “Here there be dragons” in Gothic Blackscript – he may sometimes set them aside to his advantage.
If he has a hero’s courage, that is. For that, too is an essential of the good storyteller. Why else would it be “To boldly go where no man has gone before,” eh, hero?
Sometimes They Come Right Out And Say It
The current Darling of the Left, the execrable Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (whom a rational constituency wouldn’t have elected deputy assistant dog catcher), made it quite plain where her priorities lie:
AOC has since deleted that tweet. Please share it with everyone in the Solar System. (If you have any relatives visiting from Ophiuchus or Aldebaran, share it with them, too.) And have a little "theme music" to wash it down:
Russiaphobia in perspective.
This bit of national kabuki was particularly delicious in view of the fact that the supposed target of these Slavic, cartoonish maskinations was none other than the nation of complete awesomeness that had -- for 25 some years -- made regime change and subversion of foreign governments its signature contribution to the stable world order.
Those Russian meddlers!
Then there's the mysterious NATO drang nach osten to play soldier on the Russian border to send the message that the dreaded "Russian expansionism" would make us very cross. We were already pretty cross about not getting our hands on that Russian naval base in Sevastopol. Anyhoo, total increase in Russian land mass with supposed theft of S. Ossetia, Abkhazia, Crimea, and Donbass = 0.54% which, to my incisive intelligence is bupkis in the scheme of things. Seriously.
But those Russian scheming, interfering, meddling, murderous Sons of Stalin are out to get us. Our ENEMIES! Or so goes "the narrative" which flows like the mighty Amazon through elite consciousness. How dare they interfere with out righteous plot to overthrow the "Brutal Dictator" Assad and cause misery, death, and destruction in Syria.
Well, the point of this is the baseless nature of this hysteria. And yet more insight into it is available in the report of the British Parliament’s Intelligence and Security Committee released on July 21, 2020. It's a pathetic exercise in attempting to pump up this leaking doll with precisely zero evidence of Russian perfidy. Here's one take on the reliability of the Report's conclusion from Canadian professor Paul Robinson:
The reports’ claims are alarming at first glance. When examined, however, they can be seen to lack evidentiary support. Instead, readers are repeatedly told that there have been “widespread allegations” and that “it has been widely reported” that the Russians are up to no good. But allegations are not evidence, and time after time the report fails to substantiate the suspicions it raises.Thin gruel indeed and Robinson's excellent analysis is instructive on the point of the false and contrived nature of the hateathon directed at Russia these days. "False" and "hysterical" pretty much describe the anti-Russia phenomenon. As they do anything to do with President Trump, Black Lies Matter, AntiFa, white privilege, white racism, "hate speech," Syria, Iran, Afghanistan, and the like. For instance, the report declares, “There have been widespread public allegations that Russia sought to influence the 2016 referendum on the UK’s membership of the EU.” But the only evidence it provides to show that those allegations might be true is a reference to “open source studies” which point to pro-Brexit bias by the Russian broadcasters RT and Sputnik.[1]

Why the Pro-Maskers Are SO Ready to Exact Retribution on the "Q-M2" Types
- Some of the PMMs work in high-risk fields - Medical/Nursing, Heavy Public Contact, Teaching (those germy little buggers are EVERYWHERE), etc. They wouldn't be human if they weren't concerned, and anxious to reduce their vulnerability.
- Some of the PMMs are in positions where failure to be Pro-Mandatory could cause them to lose their job or risk lawsuits. Really can't argue with looking after your own self.
- Some of the PMMs are anxious to put distance between themselves and famous non-maskers - Trump, for example. They fear that reliance on the actual science involved might put them in jeopardy of being lumped in with Bad Orange Man.
- Some are Karens - those people who yearn to be able to lay down rules for others, particularly when they can claim the high ground. In this case, THEY CARE ABOUT PEOPLE - you are a HEARTLESS KILLER!
- Some are just Drama Queens - not something new, there have always been whose primary way of dealing with the world is to over-dramatize their part in it.
- And, some are just going along with the crowd. Because going along is the easiest thing to do.
- Masking around sick people - most, if not all, people would agree with that.
- Masking in crowded situations - most would say "OK" to that.
- Masking outside - there are those who do, but most people can't wait to exit a store or building, as eager to take off the mask as a woman is to shed that push-up bra upon closing the door to her house. And, despite the meme stating that government mandates bras, wearing them is optional (although, if the females do, Thank You!).
- And, MANDATORY masking, a government-imposed requirement, with penalties that may include fines, arrest, and even imprisonment.
A Mandatory Theft
Yes, Gentle Reader: there are times when stealing is mandatory. Our favorite Graybeard has provided one:
It cannot be put any better than that.
Coming attractions.
I believe anybody who has managed to stay sane through the travails of the past four years cannot fail to see that the clinically incompetent Joe Biden is an obvious stalking horse for something more sinister. I think we will learn what that is before much longer.[1]The thought that the American presidential election could serve the interests of a cynical, hostile, unidentified minority consisting of, presumably, the super rich and Freddy Kruger is highly offensive. Truth to tell, that's the norm for presidential politics but in the past, as a simple courtesy to the schmuck voter, it was at least presumed that the eventual "winner" would be the face of the executive branch for the next four years.
Now, the putative would-be top Democrat guy is demonstrably corrupt, creepy, and bordering on full-blown Keynesianism. He's being kept in his cage basement under close control by North Korean amazons but the likely de facto president in the event of Victory of the Lunatics is yet to appear on the scene. Diablo ex machine. We dodged the Mayor Pete and the First Husband bullet but there are always Susan Rice, Lowretta "Axe Me About My Granchirrens" Lynch, Samantha "Responsibility to Bomb" Powers, Valerie "My Whole Damn Family Plus the Cabana Boy Are Communists" Jarrett, and Lori "I Special" Lightweight. Hell, why not Nikki Nookie? That subcontinental ass would be scrumptious to contemplate for four years and I'm being deadly serious here.
The bench is deep.
This is some sick scenario working its way into the sunlight of our exceptional democratic woke wonderfulness with the eventual puppet/selectee to be, fear not, the distillation of all the pathology, stupidity, and dishonesty that can be force fed down the gullet of the Deplorables. Or introduced by other means.
Fashion your seat belts, folks. It looks like were heading into a bit of turbulence.
Peak stupidity is almost here.

Defining And Defeating The Morally Different
About a month ago, I made a point that in my estimation “should” be “obvious.” However, I forgot that what’s “obvious” to me isn’t always clear to others who’ve left their thinking caps at home. “Obvious,” after all, does mean overlooked. At least, that’s the way the word is most frequently used.
Since I posted that piece, I’ve received a number of requests for clarification. “Obvious” notions “shouldn’t” require clarification. Either they arise from the simple implications of openly available evidence – i.e., they’re the nearest thing to self-evident – or they’re not as “obvious” as all that. And with that, I’ll declare a moratorium on the ironic use of quote marks and proceed normally. Well, normally for the Curmudgeon Emeritus to the World Wide Web, anyway.
If you’re one of the Gentle Readers who’ve hoped for a clarification, please read what follows slowly and with your best attention.
1. Defining the Morally Different.
If once a man indulges himself in murder, very soon he comes to think little of robbing; and from robbing he comes next to drinking and Sabbath-breaking, and from that to incivility and procrastination. – Thomas de Quincey
I routinely use the term moral as shorthand for morals and ethics: paired codes of constraint to which an individual adheres. However, moral and ethical codes are technically distinct from one another. One’s morals concern what one must and must not do when no one else is likely to be adversely affected by one’s decisions and actions. Typical subjects under the heading of morality include sexual conduct, the use of intoxicants, and cheating at solitaire. Ethics concern decisions and actions that are likely to involve harm to others. That covers the mala in se of the criminal law such as murder, kidnapping, rape, theft, and vandalism, as well as unprosecuted deeds such as refusing to go to the aid of a drowning man or deceiving one’s spouse about the source of the red marks on one’s shirt collar. And having made that linguistic distinction, I shall use moral and morality to refer to both moral and ethical decisions and actions henceforward.
If Smith and Jones differ morally, they feel themselves to be constrained by different rules. A fair and commonplace example occurs in many white-collar workplaces. Smith would never dream of raiding the company supply cabinet for materials to be used at home; he considers it stealing. In contrast, Jones helps himself to whatever he might find useful and takes it home for his personal use; he considers it a perquisite of his employment, regardless of what company policy might say. In that regard and perhaps in others, Smith and Jones are morally different.
That example might elicit shrugs from some Gentle Readers. “So what?” they might say. “Jones takes some pens and paper home from the office? Big deal. Everybody does it.” I shan’t argue the point, except to note that he who says “everybody does it” is really saying “In his situation, I would do it.”
My central point is that it constitutes a moral difference between Smith and Jones. Davis, who employs them both, can rely on Smith in ways he can’t rely on Jones. Were he to become aware of their moral difference, it would probably result in a difference in the way he treats them – and that could have serious effects on Jones’s career.
Plainly, some moral differences are graver than others. Yet it is observably the case that such seemingly small differences often blossom into graver ones over time.
Jones may steal from “the company” with a clear conscience on the grounds that “the company can afford it.” But he might come to view Smith in the same light: as one who has possessions that “he can afford” to lose, while acquiring them would benefit Jones greatly. The retardant here would be the impersonality Jones probably attributes to “the company” versus the plain and obvious personhood of Smith, a working stiff much like Jones himself though perhaps better compensated. Still, one once has accepted pilferage as a means of improving one’s own circumstances, what dividing line is guaranteed to hold forever?
Now consider the moral difference between Smiths whose moral codes are never broken and Joneses whose “morals” are completely expressed by one consideration: “Can I get away with it?” There cannot be any sort of trustworthy interaction between those two groups. Indeed, the Joneses will see the Smiths as sheep to be shorn, and will shear them at every opportunity...unless and until the Smiths put an end to the threat the Joneses represent.
Even more dramatic moral differences are possible between men. We confront one today: the moral difference between normal, decent Americans and the scum that call themselves “AntiFa.”
Smith, a decent American, adheres to a moral code that forbids doing harm to an innocent, under which term he subsumes all non-aggressors. Smith might occasionally be provoked beyond his ability to resist – a sufficiently grave insult, for example, might be answered with a punch in the nose – but if asked about his attitude toward interpersonal violence, he would condemn it. He might qualify that for particular, well-defined contexts – “I won’t start a fight, but I will finish one” – but he will insist that normal interactions with peaceable others must be violence-free.
Jones, a member of AntiFa, holds to a completely different code. His code says violence is a legitimate – possibly even mandatory – way to get the political results he seeks. Moreover, he regards any attempt, whether verbal or physical, to prevent him from doing such violence as violence directed against him and his fellows — which he considers immoral. Consider the following, which I believe was posted at Twitter:
The anonymous complainant has expressed his moral code:
- He gets to perform various acts of violence and vandalism;
- But legal consequences for those acts are “not fucking fair...”
- ...because “we’re the good guys!”
Would Smith regard Jones as a “good guy?” Or would he consider that the legal system was doing its assigned and proper job: protecting peaceable persons and property against violence and vandalism?
Imagine how Jones would regard an “informal,” on-the-spot forceful response to his violence and vandalism. Imagine what he would think of an equal or superior number of Smiths, ready and willing to meet the Joneses with force: fisticuffs, melee weapons, or guns. If being arrested and tried for his crimes offends Jones's sense of “fairness,” imagine what he would think of being on the receiving end of a beatdown.
The moral difference between Smith and Jones is sociopolitically significant. Compare it to the rise to power of the Nazis in Weimar Germany, or Mussolini’s Fascists in Italy of the same period. In those places and times, the violence unleashed by the Nazis and Fascists was not met by a forceful response, whether legal or “informal.” The consequences should be well known by anyone over the age of ten.
2. Defeating the Morally Different.
When force is made the standard, the murderer wins over the pickpocket. -- Ayn Rand
To defeat the morally different, it is first required of us that we recognize the moral difference between us and them. That can be a hard thing for a Smith, who tends to assume that Jones, however “misguided” he may be, holds to the same moral code as Smith. But this is not the case. Worse, the belief that it is the case paralyzes Smith. He finds himself unable to do anything but talk – and talk will not defeat the morally different! They have placed themselves outside our moral code. They are, quite literally, outlaws, and therefore properly subject to whatever degree of forceful response is needed to bring them down.
Mind you, there is still much difficulty involved. The forces of order must be mobilized and must act. The Joneses must be rounded up and incarcerated at the very least. A great part of our present problem arises from the lack of forceful counter-action: first on the part of the police, second on the part of the military. For there is this to ponder and absorb:
If the police cannot subdue the Joneses and subject them to the weight of the law, the military must treat them as a rebel army, to be defeated in the field. Whatever degree of bloodshed results must be regarded as the price of defending the nation, upholding its laws, and restoring its public order.
To this point, very little of this has occurred. America’s largest cities are beset by violence and vandalism, under a banner that reads “Black Lives Matter.” No small number of lives have been affected. Some have died. We need not dwell on the ironies involved. We merely need to recognize the moral difference between decent Americans and the rioters, and meet the miscreants head on with whatever force is required to subdue them. Failure to do so will be punished by the loss of our nation.
All that having been said, I yield the floor to my Gentle Readers.
Support vs. Self-Reliance
Quickies: A Perhaps Unintentional Bon Mot
Unless you play contract bridge, you’re unlikely to be familiar with the bridge lexicon. It contains a number of phrases you’d be unlikely to encounter outside of a contract bridge game. Yet I’ve just stumbled over one of them that strikes me as strangely, charmingly appropriate:
I should have expected the phrase Trump coup to appear sooner or later. It’s one of the more advanced tactics involved in the play of the hand – i.e., the phase that comes after the bidding is complete. Here’s a good explanation of the trump coup, for non-bridge players interested in exploring the matter further.
President Trump won the presidential election by Constitutional means. Those determined to thwart him believed they held “higher cards” than his mere Electoral College majority. But Trump over-ruffed them: by his performance in office, by his direct appeals to the electorate, and (of course) by his innocence of the spurious allegations made against him.
Indeed, we could even call this a grand coup -- the version of a trump coup in which the non-trump cards the Declarer over-ruffs are the highest in their suit (i.e., winners by themselves). But that would pollute the beauty of the phrase.
The hidden agenda behind "the pandemic."
In short, COVID-19 is not America’s plague. It did not shake America. The ruling class shook it. They have not done it ignorantly or by mistake. They have done it to extort the general public’s compliance with their agendas. Their claim to speak on behalf of “science” is an attempt to avoid being held accountable for the enormous harm they are doing. They continue doing it because they want to hang on to the power the panic has brought them.[1]And:
Driven by the politics of partisan identity, the ruling class used the COVID-19 event to collapse American life.[2]Notes
