Because That’s What They Do

First, Happy Bastille Day. If your schooling didn’t include the details of the French Revolution of 1789, you can read about some of the more prominent ones here. Even if their reasons differ, mobs storming prisons have taken Bastille Day as their model ever since.

Second, Long Island is about to be broiled once again, which may force me into our basement for the duration. Yes, we have central air conditioning, but the system starts to struggle when the outdoor temperature exceeds 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Fortunately, there are two more computers down there… but there are also a large TV, a comfortable recliner, and several hundred movies on DVD. Which of those will command my attention is always a crapshoot.

Third – here we are again, Gentle Reader – a news item that slipped past me a few days back has been brought to my attention:

Alarming new satellite images show signs that the Iranian regime appears to be rebuilding its suspected nuclear facilities at Pickaxe Mountain and Parchin.
Footage of both areas – which sustained extensive damage during US and Israeli-led bombing campaigns that began in late February – reveal “major signs” of activity, according to CNN, which obtained images from private firms.
Such construction likely runs afoul of the Memorandum of Understanding that Iran and US negotiators reached last month during a cease-fire that President Trump called “over” this week following Iranian attacks on shipping vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Are there any Gentle Readers who didn’t expect that? Who sincerely expected the ayatollahs to abide by the MoU? That could only be due to a severe case of wishful thinking. Imagine me tut-tutting and waving an index finger.

* * *

     Long ago, I wrote:

Possibly no novel in history has excited as much admiration or discussion as J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy classic The Lord Of The Rings. If you're one of the three remaining English-speakers who has yet to read this extraordinary work of the imagination, it's essentially the tale of the final conflict between the Free Peoples of Middle Earth, belatedly come together in a defensive federation, and Sauron the Dark Lord, the superhuman embodiment of evil, who seeks to enslave the entire world, simply because that's what he does.

Enslaving others makes Sauron happy. Perhaps he could also get some use out of them – as soldiers against Gondor, for example – but even if he could not, enslavement is his supreme temporal aim.

For Islamists worldwide, the supreme temporal aim is the destruction of all competing creeds. The destruction of all Jews must come first, for it was Jews who first defied Muhammad. No agreement struck with another power will change that. Their creed – I refuse to call Islam a “religion” – demands the death of all Jews everywhere. The concentration of Jews in Israel and Israel’s geographic placement make it Islam’s foremost target.

But Islamists know that destroying Israel will require nuclear weapons. They also regard agreements struck with “unbelievers” as to be dismissed when doing so would bring “advantage to Islam.” Thus, their creed makes it next to obligatory for them to enter a “peace agreement” fully intending to violate it. The MoU, in which Iran’s rulers supposedly agree to abandon the quest for nuclear weapons, was signed under the falsest of pretenses, for they intended to violate it from the start.

I can easily imagine how President Trump, a consummate deal-maker, feels about this. To Trump, keeping one’s given word is a matter of honor and respect for the other party. While Iran’s violation of the MoU is consistent with the behavior of Islamist rulers, it must surely enrage him. We must hope that fury won’t lure him into a ground war, an outcome few Americans would approve.

Yet what the Post reports is just what Islamists do. They always make such a promise with their fingers crossed.

* * *

There is no Last Graf. Given prevailing attitudes and America’s experiences with 21st Century warfare, we must not expect an American expeditionary force to invade Iran and topple the Islamic regime. President Trump would resist the idea fiercely, and the preponderance of our citizenry would support him. If the Post’s report of Iranian duplicity is confirmed, the most likely consequence would be the resumption of bombardment of military and political targets within Iran.

It’s a bleak prospect, but the alternatives are unpalatable.

The Greater Crime Part 2

Welcome to July. It promises to be hot and humid throughout the First World, so take care. Drink lots of water. Minimize sun exposure. And none of that BLEEP!ing exercise nonsense! Liberty’s Torch needs its Gentle Readers to stay safe and healthy. A little flab is preferable to a heatstroke.

This piece raised some eyebrows, which didn’t surprise me. There are a lot of people who dislike to have the consequences of their inactions pointed out where others can see them. Today, inaction in the face of steady invasion and gradual conquest is the norm.

The greatest civilizations ever achieved by Mankind are being toppled, and no one is doing anything to stop it. Instead we watch superhero movies. No, we don’t watch them for the special effects. We watch them in unexpressed hope that heroes such as those might rise among us.

If such heroes exist, we won’t have to do anything. We can sit back, watch or read about their exploits, and admire their style. There’s just one wee problem.

* * *

Too many people, Americans included, think that problems such as the ongoing Islamic diaspora and jihad are for someone else to solve. Too many think that our sole required contributions to our civilization are to become self-supporting and to raise our children well. Too many think that once we’ve voted, our responsibilities have been fully discharged.

That is not the case. It never has been.

If you recall the halcyon days of the superhero comic, you may have noticed something about those superheroes: They didn’t kill. That was a part of the Comics Code, enforced by the Comics Code Authority throughout the Twentieth Century. Stores wouldn’t allow a comic to appear on their racks without the approval of the CCA. Things are a little different today, but it’s still rare for a superhero to inflict death.

Killing is regarded as unheroic, a lowering of the superhero to the moral standards of the villain. We can’t have that. Superheroes are supposed to be moral-ethical icons, figures for the young reader to admire and strive to emulate. If youngsters weaned on superhero tales got the idea that killing is acceptable, they might take it into their heads to do a little of it themselves.

Of course, that does open the question of what’s to be done about a villain who’s into the world-domination lifestyle and possesses means that make that achievement credible. Can we really expect indictment, trial, conviction, and imprisonment to suffice when the villain has super-strength, or mind-control powers, or can teleport? So even the comic-book superhero has to take a life now and then.

Funnily enough, now and then real life poses us such a problem: an aspiring tyrant with aggressive tendencies, and with the people and industry of a major nation marshaled behind him. We entertain no qualms about knocking him off. We might depopulate his entire country for good measure.

We regular folk relegate that sort of chore to governments and their armies. Wars are nasty disturbing uncomfortable things. Make you late for dinner! Let those with a taste for such bizarre activities have war to themselves.

There’s a dynamic buried in that attitude. Over time, we forget what war is for. What force is for. And we forget how – and why – to use it ourselves.

* * *

Michael Sanders, the hero of Citizen Vigilante, operates in Europe, not America. Yet he’s an American. More, he possesses a handgun and is proficient in its use. Those three characteristics were essential to his character.

Europeans have been almost completely disarmed. The typical European would wet his pants at the sight of a handgun. Indeed, most of them would recoil from the sight of a hunting rifle. The conditioning they’ve undergone has persuaded them, subliminally, that violence and the tools of violence are inherently evil. If you’d wondered why Europe’s national armies are roughly the size of debating societies and are about as well armed, now you know.

Americans are the last people on Earth who possess a legally acknowledged right to keep and bear arms. Though that right has been infringed by our governments, it’s still there and it’s still widely exercised. We’re also a people known for acting on our convictions. Americans don’t casually say let someone else handle it. We act.

So Uwe Boll, who wrote and directed Citizen Vigilante, knew he needed an American hero. He found a convincing one in handsome, 6’5” Armie Hammer. And Hammer made the role his own. But consider the subtext.

Is it Americans’ job to save Europe from its Islamic invaders?

* * *

The Islamic jihad is worldwide. It’s here in America as well as in Europe. It’s even touched Australia and Japan. Muslims aren’t going to back away from what their pseudo-religion commands of them. They see First World nations as a prize to be taken. Their aggressive, take-everything-for-the ummah attitude makes itself felt daily. The following snippet of dialogue:

Sanders: On your social media since the event, I have not seen any regret or empathy. In fact I think you said that she deserved to be raped.
Dehlia: What I mean is they dress wrong, and just make boys horny with their miniskirts, they show their legs and breasts!
Sanders: You wrote that she deserved it.
     Dehlia: I will delete it.
Sanders: [to Yusuf's father] Are these the values you're teaching your children?
Ibrahim: I teach him the values from Quran and these values from our family.
Sanders: Well if these are your values, that women in America and Europe deserve to be raped because of a dress code, why did you come here?

…is very much on point. Law? Muslims hold the teachings of the Qur’an to be superior to all man-made law. They see the world as divided into the House of Islam and the House of War. They believe Allah has commanded them to conquer in His name, and to despoil the “unbeliever” of whatever they wish to take. Perhaps only a fraction of them do so, but it’s a large and rapacious fraction, as the young women of the United Kingdom can tell you.

They are more than a billion worldwide, and they are on the move.

Is this a war that could and should be left to someone else?

Dominance Displays

Societies are held together principally by their customs. Laws are far inferior to customs in providing social cohesion. When a nation’s laws are being openly flouted, it’s in the end stage of collapse, not an early one. The degeneration begins with disregard for the customs of public order and social dealing.

Surely none of my Gentle Readers are unaware of what Islamic immigrants have done to the nations of Europe. Whatever bizarre chain of irrationalities led to their admission, today they’re asserting dominance over the European societies that host them. Their displays mostly defy important customs of public order. The following, cribbed from a Frenchman commenting at X, is a case of note:

Tonight, I'm really angry and I need to let it out.
Downstairs from my place, there's a little playground where I like to sit after work.
There's a gentle cool breeze, I know people in the neighborhood, we chat peacefully.
But regularly, a group of kids shows up and starts playing soccer.
At first it was harmless, but the shots got more and more violent, until they nearly hit the little ones who were playing there.
I took it upon myself to grab the ball and politely asked them to be careful and not shoot toward the younger kids.
Immediately, a veiled mother (of course) got worked up and told me they weren't moving.
Yet, just 100 meters away, there's a proper little soccer field perfect for them.
The exchange turned heated. Then her friends showed up and, all in one voice, they threw at me:
This is our home here, we're not leaving.
If a kid gets hit by a ball, that's not our problem
They won't go to the field they'll stay here and do whatever they want
It's up to you to leave, not us.

Here's a sampling of the phrases I had to endure.
I preferred to leave rather than make the situation worse.

So is this the France of today?
Letting people with zero respect dictate their law in our country?
People who have no business being here acting like everything belongs to them?

Tonight, my desire for remigration has never been stronger.
This is my country, not theirs. And I'll do everything to make them understand: they have no right to impose their law on our soil.
The worst part? I'm almost scared now to go out and run into their husbands, who might be way more violent than they are.

What country has my France become?
     How did we get here?

Sorry for the length and the vehemence, but I really needed to vent tonight.

The commenter never said “Muslims.” It wasn’t necessary; it was clear from the context. Only Muslims in Europe do such things.

The phenomenon of traffic-blocking street prayers is an aspect of this. Muslims, aware that their host countries are reluctant to do anything about it, are disregarding customs, convention, and courtesy to assert their dominance over the countries to which they’ve immigrated. That makes them the outriders of an invasion: the spearhead of a much larger force that will soon arrive to Islamicize the whole country, sharia law and all.

Someone must have read them Lenin’s famous maxim: "Probe with the bayonet: if you meet steel, stop; if you meet mush, push." For decades, Europe has been mushy. Muslims are taking advantage – taking over.

Yes, they’ve been trying it here in America, too. Principally in cities where they’ve concentrated their numbers. Has America turned mushy? Has the “world policeman” ceased to police its own lands? Unclear.

What’s perfectly clear is that this cannot continue. But it seems that everyone is waiting for someone else to act.

Were private citizens with guns to gather and forcibly disperse such a group, shooting a few pour encourager les autres, it would probably be deemed excessive. But municipal authorities appear unwilling to act. And indeed, were they to marshal their courage, what would follow? Water cannons? Bulldozers? Tear gas? The bien-pensants would pee their panties. Can’t have that.

First-World civilizations cannot abide an influx of savages determined to flout all the customs that make our nations orderly and peaceful. Yet Europe has done so, and America isn’t far behind.

     When, then, must we do?

Once In A Great While…

…an entertainer does something that’s worth celebrating:

Stand-up comedian Mark Normand believes in making fun of everyone, equally.
When asked about his latest Netflix special, Normand said he wanted to be "inclusive," meaning he wanted to make fun of people from all walks of life.

And he meant it, Gentle Reader. He included a joke about Muslims in his plan for a recent cable comedy special. One of the “platforms” on which his special is to appear was upset:

"They go, 'Yeah, we got some bad news there. We reviewed the special again. We'd like to take out the Muslim joke.'"
Normand explained that staff told him that the last time "a comic did a Muslim joke," they got bomb and death threats. But the 42-year-old said he refused to take it out.

They argued back and forth. Normand broke the deadlock with a bargain:

"OK. I don't love it, but OK. I will take it off on one condition," he recalled saying. Normand then said he told those on the call that he would only approve the social media plan if they admitted Muslims are dangerous.
"I want you to admit on this call that they're a dangerous people. And they were like, 'What? No. What, are you crazy?' And I'm like, 'You got to admit it, or I'm keeping it, or I'm posting it.'"

The resistance continued. The executives were apparently terrified of allowing the joke… and equally terrified of admitting why they were terrified. Could it possibly get any better?

     Normand won the throw-down:

"You can say, 'Hey, I love this group.' But then you don't live near them. You know, we're all talk. We're all signaling. We're all virtuous, but you don't actually act that way."
"So they admitted it," Normand said to his surprise; and while he did reveal he was "half joking" when he made his request, the comedian had a good time getting "a group of HR homos" to say, "All right, they're dangerous. We'll see you later," before hanging up the phone.

How could anyone not be put in mind of this famous passage from Atlas Shrugged:

"Mr. Rearden," he had said once, "if you feel you'd like to hand out more of the Metal to friends of yours—I mean, in bigger hauls—it could be arranged, you know. Why don't we apply for a special permission on the ground of essential need? I've got a few friends in Washington. Your friends are pretty important people, big businessmen, so it wouldn't be difficult to get away with the essential need dodge. Of course, there would be a few expenses. For things in Washington, You know how it is, things always occasion expenses."
     "What things?"
     "You understand what I mean."
"No," Rearden had said, "I don't. Why don't you explain it to me?"
The boy had looked at him uncertainly, weighed it in his mind, then come out with: "It's bad psychology."
     "What is?"
"You know, Mr. Rearden, it's not necessary to use such words as that."
     "As what?"
"Words are relative. They're only symbols. If we don't use ugly symbols, we won't have any ugliness. Why do you want me to say things one way, when I've already said them another?"
"Which way do I want you to say them?"
"Why do you want me to?"
"For the same reason that you don't."

Rand’s focus was primarily economic. She, who wrote at a time when the U.S. was still overwhelmingly European and Christian, would not have foreseen the tensions of today. But her novel’s various conflicts over production and trade are as applicable to today’s racial and creedal tensions as they were to the proto-fascist conditions of the postwar years.

You cannot dispel a terror by refusing to speak of it.

Episodes In Intolerance

     Get a load of this:

Back in 2006 Dan Simmons wrote a time travel story warning about the Century War with Islam. Thucydides plays a prominent role, his diagnosis being that the Sicilian Expedition failed because the Athenians were not ruthless enough, and thereby doomed themselves.
He got cancelled for this, of course. One of the greatest literary talents of his generation smeared as a right wing crank by people who didn't know what a dhimmi was, or a jizya, and had certainly never read Thucydides, but knew damn well that Islam was a religion of peace.

Dan Simmons was a unique, overpoweringly impressive talent. He could write anything — and he did. His books cover the whole range of the fiction genres, possibly excepting romance. More important, every one of them was a jewel. I think I’ve read most of his oeuvre, and I can’t remember ever being displeased by so much as a single sentence.

Simmons passed away only a few days ago. I could go on a long, effusive dithyramb here, extolling his numerous virtues as a writer and storyteller, but that’s not why I’ve chosen this subject. It’s because of a single short story he wrote, which he posted at his website. It’s a monitory tale; its focus is the war between Islam and civilization itself. And it is unsparing of anyone’s notions or preferences. If you haven’t yet read it, please do so before continuing on here.

I know of only two other writers, the inimitable Tom Kratman and the mighty John Ringo, who have been equally blunt about the peril Islam poses to the First World. (No, I shan’t number myself among them. I haven’t earned the right to sit in that company.) But Kratman, Ringo, and Simmons share something else as well: They’re savagely reviled by the Left and the bien-pensants of all Establishments. Consider this vacuum-skull’s denunciation of Simmons:

These days, Dan Simmons is mostly known as a hard-right Islamophobe who thinks that moderately progressive social policies will destroy America and tries to keep himself relevant by scolding climate activists. But in ye olden days, he was famous for a series of weird, genre-bending novels that made readers say either “wow, that’s deep” or “the heck did I just read?”

Mustn’t offend the Left! Their claws come out immediately. Never mind that none of them are worthy to tie Simmons’s shoelaces. That’s the tactic they’ve embraced: vilification and unrelenting denunciation of anyone who dares to disagree with them. “Racist! Sexist! Ableist!”

(Yes, those denunciations have lost a lot of their force. I’m a proud racist, sexist, ableist, homophobic, xenophobic, and Islamophobic-American. Being up-front about all that hasn’t hurt my bank balance. Perhaps that’s because those positions are well supported by the evidence. But I digress.)

Perhaps Simmons is just one more casualty of our contemporary political divisions and the fusillades they’ve occasioned. After all, there are some other big names on that list, including Dr. William Shockley, co-developer of the transistor, and Dr. James Watson, co-discoverer of the structure of the DNA molecule. But it’s still worth noting that there is no writer on the Left whose stature compares even remotely to that of Dan Simmons. And of course, now that he’s gone, those pygmies will cluster around his grave to piss on it again. It’s approximately all they can do.

Remember when Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movies came out? Leftist scum were quick to denounce both Jackson and Tolkien for being racist, sexist, et cetera. “Why aren’t there any good Orcs? Why aren’t there women warriors other than Eowyn?” And on and on. Of course, to anyone familiar with pre-technological socio-anthropology, such criticisms appear idiotic, but what of that? “Racist! Sexist!”

Gentle Reader, the idiocy is so extreme that it’s all I can do not to erupt in wild laughter. Yet I feel a great sympathy for Dan Simmons and a great revulsion toward those determined to besmirch his memory. For there will be some potential readers and admirers who will be deflected from enjoying Simmons’s works because of the Left’s scurrilities. And that is a terrible shame.

Rest in peace, Dan Simmons. Know that you are missed.

On The Road Again

That’s America. On the road and making music. Just like Willie Nelson. Though I don’t recall Willie deploying aircraft carriers or F-18s.

I had a feeling a strike on Iran was coming. I’m only mildly surprised that Israel is taking a hand in it. They’ve demonstrated a knack for tactical air combat in the Middle East. But of course the anti-Israel crowd in the American media is already shouting that this action is being taken in Israel’s interests and not America’s.

HOT FLASH TO THE SEMI-SOMNOLENT: Iran is the largest single backer of Islamic terrorism worldwide. A hefty fraction of the regime’s oil revenues goes to funding Islamic terror groups and their strikes. The United States is the principal antagonist of Islamic terror. Ergo, eliminating its largest source of funding is very much in America’s interests. And that’s to say nothing of the support for the Iranian people, who’ve suffered badly under the ayatollahs’ rule.

Iran’s interference with sea passage in its region has become quite annoying too. And I seem to remember a rather unpleasant photo of American sailors being held at gunpoint by Iranian hijackers. The ayatollahs couldn’t reasonably have expected the “Great Satan” to sit passively forever as they kept ramping up their aggressions, could they? Surely they were aware that Donald John Trump, not Barack Hussein Obama nor Joseph Robinette Biden, is now our commander-in-chief! This president doesn’t just talk; he acts.

This won’t be quite as surgical and sanitary as the enforcement of our invitation to Nicolas Maduro. There will be casualties. And of course, war always costs big money. But I’ll bet you a dollar that the majority of our forces are enthused about the strike and eager to participate.

War is Hell, but there are deeper circles to Hell than this one. We can get out of this one. The ayatollahs won’t.

As the saying goes, now we wait. Not only for reports from the combat. We also wait for reports of the reactions of Muslims in America. Note that I didn’t say “American Muslims.” A Muslim is forbidden to hold an allegiance to anything but Islam and the worldwide ummah. I don’t expect that to change, unless it’s under the cloak of taqiyya.

Remember Black Tuesday: September 11, 2001? Muslims in New Jersey were seen celebrating the atrocities. Do you think they’ll celebrate our liberation of the longsuffering people of Iran?

     Have a nice day.

Smith, Jones, And Coming To America 2026

There’s quite a bit of contention over why immigrants to our shores seek to come here. Yet the answer generalizes neatly:

  • Immigrant Smith comes for an improved chance to get something: e.g., freedom from persecution or a materially better life;
  • Immigrant Jones comes to serve a superior mandate.

     Those motivations sometimes blend.

We saw Smiths from Europe almost exclusively during the “open immigration” period from the end of the Civil War up to the 1965 Hart/Celler Act. Since then, there’s been a mixture of Smiths and Joneses. The Smiths of recent years have included a significant number of predators and gang affiliates from Mexico and Central America. The Joneses have largely been Muslims.

President Trump has put great emphasis on stanching the flow of illegal migrants and migrants from hostile cultures. In doing so, he’s nudged the balance back toward the European Smiths: persons from largely Christian cultures who could be expected to assimilate. This is a good thing. The “unmeltables” have greatly exacerbated our racial and ethnic tensions. Several ethnic exclaves, particularly in the Southwest, are populated largely by “unmeltables” and illegals.

But of course, there are persons on the Left who condemn Trump’s changes as “inhumane.” By their standards, it’s a violation of our ethics to insist that newcomers actually become law-abiding Americans… first and foremost, by complying with our immigration laws. The Dishonorable Charles Schumer (D, NY) has openly defended the illegals and vowed to seek a “pathway to citizenship” for them:

Leftists who favor making no distinction between legal and illegal immigrants usually claim that the illegals are all Smiths. “They came here for a better life!” Even if we omit consideration of the immigration laws, this is a deliberate effacement of an important distinction. Some of those Smiths seek “a better life” by preying on others. Indeed, some were sent here by even bigger predators, to serve those bigger ones’ aims.

As for the Joneses, we must deem them invaders ab initio, regardless of whether they wear uniforms or tote weapons. This is particularly the case for Muslims. Islam forbids the Muslim to acknowledge any allegiance other than Islam. Thus, the Muslim is required to remain conscious at all times that his creed commands him to subjugate all persons everywhere to the dictates of Islam.

The nations of Europe have been battered nearly to destruction for failing to accept this fact. Islam has penetrated Europe so deeply that its clerics now openly proclaim their intention that Islam and sharia law shall rule throughout the Old World. Europe’s governments, with a handful of exceptions, have postured as either indifferent to those threats or powerless to oppose them.

That’s a summary of large-scale human mobility at the beginning of the Year of Our Lord 2026. Individuals’ motives for migration are all subsumed by the Smith / Jones dichotomy. Are there a few Smiths scattered among the Joneses, or vice versa? No doubt. Might some Joneses prove tractable in the long run, capable of renouncing their original aims and becoming loyal Americans? The odds are against it, but I hesitate to say it can’t happen.

I will say only this: Beware. That is, be aware. If there are migrants in your community, do your best to know which ones are Smiths and which are Joneses. Treat carefully with the Smiths, but be even more wary of the Joneses. And under no circumstances let the Joneses build fortresses among you, no matter how they represent themselves or their institutions! Not opposing them from the outset could ultimately cost your life, or the lives of your descendants.

Muslim Privilege

     A reckoning is due:

Is there anyone out there who wants to discuss “privilege?”

Islam is an aggressive, imperialist creed. Little about it is even quasi-religious. When Muslims do things like congregate in the street to “pray,” what they’re really doing is asserting their superiority over secular law. Any other fool who would dare to block a public thoroughfare would swiftly be arrested for obstructing traffic, and possibly disturbing the peace as well. When Muslims do it, the “authorities” pretend it isn’t happening. Taking official notice and dispatching law enforcement to clear the obstruction might have... consequences.

Don’t mumble “freedom of religion” at me. No other creed would be permitted such disturbances of public order. But our lily-livered “authorities” are either too intimidated by Islamic propensity to violence, or find it useful for keeping the rest of us cowed.

But ordinary Americans find that we’ve had quite enough. Some of us own trucks with plow blades on them. And a whole lot of us own firearms.

You may be familiar with the following passage:

“What I actually am, Mr. Rearden, is a policeman. It is a policeman’s duty to protect men from criminals—criminals being those who seize wealth by force. It is a policeman’s duty to retrieve stolen property and return it to its owners. But when robbery becomes the purpose of the law, and the policeman’s duty becomes, not the protection, but the plunder of property—then it is an outlaw who has to become a policeman.”

It’s from Atlas Shrugged, of course. “Pirate” Ragnar Danneskjold is explaining his peculiar occupation to Hank Rearden. But stolen property is only one form of lawbreaking that requires a forcible response. Stolen freedom of transit and stolen public order are no less deserving of our attentions.

President Trump has approved of the use of significant force when it’s needed to apprehend illegal aliens. Perhaps someone should ask him about these Islamic “street prayers” and what he would approve in response to them. Tear gas, perhaps? Rubber bullets? Or maybe firehoses?

They must be quelled, and swiftly. If the “authorities” won’t act, private citizens must. Else the law is meaningless, and Islam reigns de facto over these United States.

The Shelter Problem

Yes, yes, I know you’re tired of hearing about Charlie Kirk’s murder and what’s followed. Sorry; it’s on my mind, and I write about what’s on my mind. You see, there are parallels between the situation that produced Charlie’s murderer and the ones that make both black predation and Muslim violence so rampant.

The explanation starts with an insight from Brigitte Gabriel:

I think I’ve embedded this video before, but never mind. Gabriel’s explanation of the sheltering character of a population that protects and enables its violent fraction is on point. When Mao Tse-tung wrote that “The people are the sea in which the revolutionary fish swims,” he had the same idea in mind. The larger mass of that population need not be violent. It needs only to provide concealment, protection, and sustenance to its violent members. That greatly increases the willingness of the violent to go forth and slaughter.

When black or Muslim violence erupts, the rejoinder from the peacefully inclined among us is often “But they’re not all like that. We can’t punish all of them for the deeds of a few!” This response is so common that it’s generated an Internet acronym: NAXALT. And indeed, by American standards of justice that rejoinder is correct.

But the phenomenon has killed the degree of mutual trust that made America the social, economic, and political envy of the world. When it’s unwise, for the sake of one’s own well-being, to trust in the good will of strangers, trust will disappear. And that is exactly what has happened.

     We cannot trust blacks.
     We cannot trust Muslims.
Worst of all, we cannot trust those on the Left – and we have no reliable way of distinguishing them from the others around us. Any of them could be an assassin or an enabler of assassins. Any of them might cheer at seeing one of his fellows brutalize or kill us. The culture that shelters them has reduced the risk of those things to them.

That has increased the risk to the rest of us.

Retail establishments and restaurants are beginning to sense the dangers. Some have already gone to what I’ve been (mistakenly) calling a “kill box.” Properly, it’s a delayed-admission security entrance. Below is a picture of the sort of thing I’m describing:

The outer door is unlocked. The would-be entrant steps inside. The inner door remains locked against him until a security guard can decide whether he should be allowed to pass into the establishment. If the answer is no, he can proceed no further; he must leave.

The “kill zone” where the would-be entrant must wait is of course transparent. It can be made as large as the proprietors think appropriate for their application. The walls are usually made of Lucite. In the future they may be made of armor glass, given how many guns there are in the world. I know of one such retailer, a furrier, who has already imposed such a control on his potential customers. He won’t be alone for long.

Such controls, openly designed to separate dangerous elements from the rest of us, are a stopgap solution. They can only protect enclosures; they cannot protect public places. With Muslim violence and black “chimp-outs” becoming more frequent and more widespread, the long-term solution can only be a complete, enforced separation of the populations, such as this. Popular sentiment won’t yet support that, but time will tell.

Trust in the good will of strangers is a social requirement. The loss of it atomizes us, as it’s doing today. An increasing percentage of Americans are unwilling to leave their homes to shop. They fear what may await them. Many such have ample justification. (Say what you will about Jeff Bezos, but thank God for Amazon.)

Do you hate the idea? I do. But anyone with a better idea, a better vision for restoring public peace and amity is welcome to present it. In this regard I must hope that there are keener eyes than mine... though I’ve seen no evidence to that effect.

Vacua

It seems that for some kinds of learning, you have to get old.

I’m old. I’ve lived 73 years as of the fifth of September in this Year of Our Lord 2025. And I sometimes thank God that I can’t clearly remember the foolishness I espoused in my younger days. I’d die of embarrassment if some of it were to come to light. And that’s enough for personal disclosures.

I was educated as a physicist. I’ve retained very little of that knowledge. I couldn’t solve a Schrodinger’s Equation problem to save my life. But I did hold on to one critical insight. It’s one you probably acknowledge, too, even if you would express it in other terms.

Excepting the effects of entropy,
The universe is ruled by equilibrium.

Practical living incorporates that insight in particular ways: “The goldfish will grow to the size of the bowl.” “Water seeks its own level.” “Dirty is automatic; clean takes work.” “Nature abhors a vacuum.”

That last one is much on my mind this morning. No calculus will be required to follow it out.

***

Experimenters create vacua for specific purposes, often to gauge the consequences of a reaction that cannot occur in air. Vacua are also required for certain types of high-tech manufacturing. But have you ever contemplated the production of vacua by activists and politicians? Why would they do it?

(Before we proceed further, yes: the plural of vacuum is vacua. The alternate plural vacuums is best reserved to the discussion of floor-cleaning devices.)

Nature abhors a sociopolitical vacuum just as much as the physical kind. Indeed, a sociopolitical vacuum is often paralleled by a physical one. Both demand to be filled by something. All it takes is time.

Now consider what’s happened to birth rates in the First-World nations. I don’t know of any advanced nation other than Israel that’s reproducing at or above replacement rate. Without an influx of immigrants, those countries would “empty out” within a few generations. The effects are already visible in Russia and Japan.

Those declines in fertility don’t create a hard vacuum... but they indicate a reduced pressure within the affected countries. The pressure against their borders is higher than the pressure to maintain racial, ethnic, and cultural norms can resist. Moreover, there are elements within those countries that want a flood of immigrants, regardless of any countervailing considerations.

Those pro-immigration elements have effective control of the governments of Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

Yes, movements have arisen in all those nations to agitate against unrestricted and unqualified admission to their lands. But to this point, the pro-immigrant elements in their governments are holding sway. It’s unclear whether the balance will tip in the other direction in the near future.

I’d bet against it, because of a cooperating vacuum that’s been under construction for several decades.

***

Moral and ethical norms are best inculcated in the young person by his parents. Should they fail to do so, he might manage to acquire them in some other fashion, but he’d likely give and receive a lot of pain and damage in the process. Some of that damage would be to his beliefs about individuals’ rights.

For decades the trend in Western nations has been away from firm moral-ethical norms and toward a freewheeling relativism: “whatever’s right for you.” Parents have been swayed in that direction as much as anyone else. But relativism acts like a vacuum. Under the guiding principle of “whatever’s right for you,” even a nation whose heritage is strongly Christian will lack the will to defend Christian norms against an incursion by an aggressive and confident opponent.

Relativism synergizes with the reluctance to confront – an unwillingness to risk conflict, even if it’s just verbal conflict. The relativist will not argue for any absolute norm. How can he? Under the relativistic principle, there are “no right answers.” Everyone is entitled to “his own truth.” But a time may come when someone else’s “truth” mandates the relativist’s subjugation or death.

That’s what’s happened to Canada, Britain, and Australia. It’s beginning to raise its head here in the United States. The great majority of Americans are at least nominally Christian. Our Nation’s laws were founded on Commandments Four through Nine of the Decalogue. But we have exhibited an increasing disinclination to take up cudgels in support or defense of Christian norms.

Those norms will not prevail without a stouthearted defense. Their adversaries’ numbers are growing while ours are stagnating. Do the math.

***

My personal conviction is that Islam is toxic to human life and must be destroyed root and branch. I feel similarly about the tide of Negro savagery that’s manifested in recent years, most notably in the larger cities. But underlying those threats to Christian-Enlightenment civilization are the vacua of relativism and non-confrontation. Those vacua will be filled by something. It behooves us of the Christian Enlightenment to be ones to fill them.

Time is not on our side.

Issues

Have you noticed? No one has problems any more. No one has a character defect that demands correction. And no one is ever irritated. Instead, we have issues.

Issues, they say, are for “working out” – and you know how hopeless it is to argue with They. Of course, there are better and worse means of working out an issue, but we wouldn’t want to be judgmental, would we? Each to his own vision of the Good, the True, and the Beautiful!

Except that some of them are pretty damned ugly, aren’t they? Especially the ones that involve rape, murder, and rioting in the streets.

I’m a long-time admirer of Mark Steyn. There’s hardly any other commentator in the Right who equals his gift for unsparing penetration. He’s especially good at coining a pithy phrase. I have several of his books, and that pattern of penetration married to eloquence persists throughout.

But by my lights, one of his coinages stands above the rest. He made it in America Alone, in discussing the evil that has striven to displace national pride, patriotism, and love of justice: multiculturalism. He called it “societal Stockholm Syndrome:”

If Islamist extremism is the genie you’re trying to put back in the bottle, it doesn’t help to have smashed the bottle. At the core of multiculturalism is the assumption that a non-Western culture is somehow primal and immutable, but that an advanced nation is no more than the sum of its parts. It’s a kind of societal Stockholm Syndrome—a desperation to identify with anything that comes along other than your own.

That appears to have become the dominant approach to multicultural “issues” throughout Europe. Muslims think it’s just grand to kidnap and rape white European teen girls? Muslims force their own pre-teen daughters into marriages to much older men? Muslims harass Jews in public places, sometimes with violence? Well, it’s okay in their homelands, so who are we to condemn it? Besides, we wouldn’t want them to become angry with us, would we?

I have an issue with that. So did this young woman. But it appears that few of her countrymen share that issue.

Remember the Nuremberg tribunals? No, I wasn’t there, and I doubt you were either. But the principle they established is one that deserves a lot more thought than it routinely gets. They ruled that there is a standard of justice above all political law – that the Nazi war criminals brought before them could not stake their defense on the laws of the Third Reich, but must be judged according to that supreme standard.

Europeans who cower before the Muslims that have flooded into their nations are as culpable as any Nazi official who claimed that he was merely following the laws of his nation. They avert their eyes from vicious and savage behavior, preferring “tolerance” to being called “racists.” They permit those hordes to disrupt the public life of their countries, rather than assert their long-established norms. They shun all possibilities of confrontation.

And it’s coming to America. Muslim street prayers designed to monopolize parks, impede traffic, and assert dominance. Muslim demonstrations against Israel in public parks and before public places. Muslims marching and chanting for sharia — in Idaho, of all places. And no one says a word, much less does anything to prevent or correct it. Even in districts where there are water cannons and snowplows aplenty.

Do you have an issue with any of that, Gentle Reader?

Mantras For 2025

I’ve been repeating two lines a lot lately:

  • Islam is toxic to human life.
  • You can’t take the savagery out of the savage.

I get some agreement, and some pushback. Yet the evidence continues to accumulate:

Stories similar to those two are multiplying. The innate toxicity and savagery of certain creeds and peoples is becoming ever more apparent. The media can no longer sweep all of it under the carpet.

I could go on a long tirade about this, but I’ve already done so many times:

So I’ll simply refer you to those occasions.

To those who’ve wondered: Yes, I intend that the better pieces from Liberty’s Torch V2.0 will be brought here. It will be a slow process, and just now I have a bad case of bronchitis. Please be patient.

A Deeper Look

A mostly “outrage” article at American Greatness concludes with this offhand assertion:

The global demonstrations against Israel, violence against Jews on U.S. campuses, and Israel’s diplomatic isolation are rooted in rampant antisemitism and Marxism.

While anti-Semitism is a significant component of the worldwide agitation against Israel, it’s far from the whole story. That story begins after World War I, when Europe’s nations mortgaged their economies by becoming dependent on Middle Eastern oil. It remains a key driver of hostility toward world Jewry even today.

Today, there’s an additional element in the anti-Israel stew: the massive influx of Muslim migrants to Europe. All over the Old World, there are now significant populations of Muslims within the nations of what was once called Christendom. The Islamic demographic is the most restive and violent portion of the populations of those nations that have let them in.

As has been stated many times, including by me, Muslims do not immigrate to Christian countries to assimilate; they come to conquer. Islamic doctrine both forbids assimilation and commands conquest. Even a single-digit percentage of Muslims in an otherwise peaceful country can credibly – albeit sotto voce – present that country’s political elite with a threat of unacceptable violence and public disorder. Note that when the percentage of Muslims in a nation reaches double digits, the political class finds itself forced to spend a large fraction of its time and resources on placating them.

This completes the explanation for worldwide indifference to the plight of Israel and its people. It’s an important step, for bigotry of any sort is personal; we can hope, at least, that the bigots will wear out, age out, or disappear. Indeed, bigotry is the preferred explanation for Western hostility to Israel. It’s the easiest influence to combat.

But oil supplies and the threat of Islamic riots are a much graver matter.

Quickies: A Great Voice Speaks From The Grave To Us Of The Present

Great men have foreseen the extreme danger that Islam and its militancy pose to the civilized world. One such great man is Hilaire Belloc:

The story must not be neglected by any modern, who may think in error that the East has finally fallen before the West, that Islam is now enslaved — to our political and economic power at any rate if not to our philosophy. It is not so. Islam essentially survives, and Islam would not have survived had the Crusade made good its hold upon the essential point of Damascus. Islam survives. Its religion is intact; therefore its material strength may return. Our religion is in peril, and who can be confident in the continued skill, let alone the continued obedience, of those who make and work our machines? ... There is with us a complete chaos in religious doctrine.... We worship ourselves, we worship the nation; or we worship (some few of us) a particular economic arrangement believed to be the satisfaction of social justice.... Islam has not suffered this spiritual decline; and in the contrast between [our religious chaos and Islam's] religious certitudes still strong throughout the Mohammedan world lies our peril.

Eighteen Years Later Part 2: Those Who Would Have Us Forget

The Left always plays the long game. Gramsci described its lineaments in his famous phrase “a long march through the institutions.” For anyone with the patience to analyze that pithy phrase, the Left’s whole program is there. This is nowhere more visible than with reference to Black Tuesday: September 11, 2001.

As I wrote yesterday, America’s current crop of teenagers knows only that others have told them about the 9/11 atrocities. Well, who are those others and what have they been saying?

     And we also have:

And let’s not forget the claims that it was all a government conspiracy.

The “institutions” have relentlessly striven to shift the responsibility for the 9/11 atrocities away from religiously motivated Muslim terrorists, from Islamic hatred of America, and from our catastrophically lax immigration and border control systems. Toward what? It hardly matters. Create enough noise around the event and the facts will be obscured beyond recovery.

That’s not all, of course. We also have the ongoing sallies by “peaceful” Muslims to distance Muslims and Islam generally from Islam-powered terrorism. Yes, it’s a formidable undertaking, but they try their best. Review the Ilhan Omar video embedded above. Then review this one:

     And this one:

Then think about the vulnerable, impressionable young Americans being deluged with this...and the America that will someday be theirs to operate and govern.

Few things anger me quite as much as the objections – always from a representative of some group that claims “oppressed” status – that the rest of us shouldn’t hold the deeds of their miscreants against them. Why not? Because “we’re not all like that.” See the Brigitte Gabriel video embedded above for the perfect rejoinder.

Religiously-powered violence is particularly egregious. For those who lack a clear understanding of why, allow me to make it maximally explicit:

A command from God supersedes all other commands.
It annuls all constraints.
It abrogates all other obligations and priorities.

The religious warrior has no choice in the matter. He must do as God has told him. Allah has told Muslims that holy war against “unbelievers,” to bring them low and compel them to submit to Islam, is their supreme obligation. It’s in the Koran, which Muslims are taught is the literal word of God. As we mathematical types like to conclude, quod erat demonstrandum.

Mention that, and the cries of “Islamophobia” (and “racism,” though Islam is not a race) will surely rise to assail you. You’re a “bigot.” You want to “oppress” innocent Muslims – the very people who not only refuse to cooperate in locating the terrorists and terror organizers among them, but who shield and succor them as a religious obligation. The very people who claim Jews are “the descendants of apes and pigs.” The very people who believe – once again, as a religious doctrine – that no Muslim is required to accept the authority of any “unbeliever” in any situation...and therefore, that a sincere Muslim can hold no allegiance to anything but Islam.

     Yes, really.

     The “institutions” of particular note:

  • The educational system;
  • The news media;
  • The entertainment industries;
  • The bureaucracies;

...are all Left-dominated, which gives rise to the key question of the hour: why? The Left and Islam are completely opposed on many things dear to Leftists’ hearts: abortion, homosexuality, unbridled sex, public displays of flesh and vulgarity, atheism, and others. Why, then, do the Left’s institutional bastions do so much to protect Islam and Muslims?

The answer is fear. Not fear for themselves; they have little of that, despite the attacks on Charlie Hebdo and Jyllands-Posten. Islam and Muslims are perfect instruments for promoting fear among the rest of us. Fear that our country has been targeted for subjugation by a theocratic creed whose allegiants are swarming into our land. Fear of the vipers they have brought among us, who might strike at any moment. And of course, fear of the Left’s condemnations of us as “Islamophobes,” “racists,” and “oppressors.”

If you wish to control a people, make them fear. Disarm them if you can, so that they must repose all hope of defense in the State. If you can make them sufficiently fearful, they will accept whatever controls you care to place upon them, in the name of “security.”

The irony could not be more dramatic...nor more extreme.

I reserve my greatest ire for those who’ve dared to equate Islam with Christianity, the faith whose Founder said “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” and “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” These bring out the beast in me. I vividly remember one odious bastard who dared to do so to my face, at a dinner party to which we had both been invited. That I didn’t indulge my desire to lay him out cold on the floor, out of misplaced concern for the good opinion of my hosts, is among my few severe regrets.

There are persons with significant public profiles who’ve been straining to do that ever since 9/11, if not before. Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris come to mind at once. There are others. Most of them pretend to frame their calumnies as opposition to all religions as “irrational” and “unnecessary.” Have a good look at their actual targets and draw your own conclusions.

The harm these bastards do is beyond my ability to capture in a net of words. In synergy with the Left, they are steadily pushing Christianity to the margins of society: a set of convictions and practices not to be admitted to polite discourse, as though it were somehow shameful. But what have they said about Islam? Anything comparable?

Can you hear the crickets chirping? I can.

Those who would have America forget that the atrocities of Black Tuesday were perpetrated by Islamic terrorists motivated by Islam’s explicit commands will relent no more readily than the Islamists themselves. They must be countered. Yet few have risen to the need. I’ve tried, but mine is a minor voice in a cacophonous landscape. I shall continue for as long as my voice holds out. Any effort is better than none.

     What about you, Gentle Reader?

Eighteen Years Later

Today’s American teenagers have lived their entire lives since the atrocities of 9/11. All they know of it is what they’ve been told by others – and a lot of those others have made it their mission to falsify the event: its genesis, its nature, and its consequences.

I remember it well. Indeed, I couldn’t forget it if I tried. But with all the carnage and destruction, all the tales of fear and heroism, this is the aspect of Black Tuesday, September 11, 2001 that’s most vivid in my memory:

That video is far from unique. That very day there were televised scenes of Palestinian Muslims firing AK-47s into the air and handing out sweets on the streets in celebration. There were imams and Islamic “scholars” declaiming about how America deserved to suffer that atrocity. There was a young Iraqi, nattily dressed in a Western-style suit jacket, sneering at the camera and proclaiming that “It should have been worse.” I saw them all.

Such celebrations have followed every Islam-powered atrocity perpetrated in a non-Islamic country ever since. Yet today, there are more than three million observant Muslims in the United States, and more enter the nation every day. There are mosques and “Islamic centers” throughout the country. There are Muslim “street prayers” deliberately arranged to block traffic on busy city streets. We have chapters of the murderous, al-Qaeda-affiliated Muslim Brotherhood on thousands of college campuses. We have designated representatives of CAIR and ISNA “advising” several federal bureaucracies. We have Keith Ellison, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib in the Congress of the United States. And we have this:

...and ask yourself whether their plaintive cries about “Islamophobia” deserve even a nanoparticle of respect.

     Have a nice day.

Scum’s Gonna Scum...

...and while there are plenty of scummy types on Capitol Hill, some definitely “outperform” the rest.

It’s generally known that Ilhan Omar is in Congress solely because of the large population of Somali immigrants in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional district. Omar herself is a Somali immigrant. Given the state of affairs in that African sewer, one might reasonably imagine that Omar would be grateful to have been admitted to this country. However, when it comes to the behavior of a Muslim, reason seldom has a place at the explanatory table.

The rumors about Omar having married her own brother to commit an immigration fraud have been circulating for some time. They’ve just acquired lots of additional substance:

In the past three weeks I have circled back to interview sources whom I have found to be highly reliable in the Omar saga. They open a window onto the scandals from the perspective of Ahmed Hirsi, her long-time partner and the father of her three children. According to sources, Hirsi is telling friends:
  • that he will not go to jail for Omar;
  • that while Omar did indeed marry her brother (Ahmed Elmi) for fraudulent purposes, Hirsi did not know at the time that she had married Elmi;
  • that Omar is threatening Hirsi he would be in trouble along with her if the truth were to come out;
  • that Omar has asked him to state publicly that all is well with their marriage even though it is completely done and finished; and
  • that in fact they are living apart and have been divorced under Islamic law (although they remain legally married).

Having humiliated Ahmed Hirsi by her affair with Tim Mynett, Omar now wants Hirsi to perform public relations services for her to suppress the scandal. That is cold.

Interesting, no? The hard-left Minneapolis Star-Tribune, which has treated Omar with unconcealed adulation up to now, is suddenly on the case:

New investigative documents released by a state agency have given fresh life to lingering questions about the marital history of Rep. Ilhan Omar and whether she once married a man — possibly her own brother — to skirt immigration laws.

Omar has denied the allegations in the past, dismissing them as “baseless rumors” first raised in an online Somali politics forum and championed by conservative bloggers during her 2016 campaign for the Minnesota House. But she said little then or since about Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the former husband who swept into her life in 2009 before a 2011 separation.

The questions surfaced again this month in a state probe of campaign finance violations showing that Omar filed federal taxes in 2014 and 2015 with her current husband, Ahmed Hirsi, while she was still legally married to but separated from Elmi.

Although she has legally corrected the discrepancy, she has declined to say anything about how or why it happened.

The new documents also detail the Omar campaign’s efforts to keep the story of her marriage to Elmi out of the press, arguing that detailed coverage would legitimize the accusations and invade her privacy.

The response from Omar? It’s all right-wing plotting and Islamophobia:

Omar spokesman Jeremy Slevin issued a statement Friday asserting that the questions about her personal life are illegitimate:

“Since before she was elected to office, Ilhan has been the subject of conspiracy theories and false accusations about her personal life. Emboldened by a president who openly treats immigrants, refugees and Muslims as invaders, these attacks often stem from the presumption that Ilhan — like others who share those identities — is somehow illegitimate or not fully American.

“Ilhan has shared more than most public officials ever do about the details of her personal life — even when it is personally painful,” he continued. “Whether by colluding with right-wing outlets to go after Muslim elected officials or hounding family members, legitimate media outlets have a responsibility not to fan the flames of hate. Continuing to do so is not only demeaning to Ilhan, but to her entire family.”

Imagine any Republican – imagine any white male Christian — attempting to deflect such serious and well-substantiated accusations in a comparable fashion. Imagine what would become of him.

There’s been a lot of talk about a two-tiered justice system in this country: the powerful skate on even the most serious offenses, while the little guy suffers the full weight of the law. It’s demonstrably that way as regards the coup attempt against President Trump orchestrated from within the FBI and CIA. What underlines the scurrility is the likely success of the attempt by Omar to evade scrutiny for crimes that would get an ordinary immigrant deported. She’ll receive all the protective cover her Democrat colleagues can contrive.

The Democrats always do that for one of “their own.” Look at the cover they’ve provided Charles Rangel. Look at how they attempted to protect Anthony Weiner. And do I really need to mention Ted Kennedy? Power is what matters to the Democrats. Indeed, nothing else does.

Worse, the Republicans almost always yield to it. They can’t bring themselves to confront such arrant lawlessness. The press might say something unflattering about them. Not that the press won’t do so anyway. But the typical GOP public official has his spine surgically removed before taking office. Whether his conscience is left in place remains unclear.

Yet there are still people who demand to know “how we could have elected Donald Trump.” How dare we choose a man from outside the political elite! How dare we opt for one known for brashness of statement and daring in action! How dare he defy all precedent by working to fulfill his campaign promises – and how dare we stand loyally by him as the rest of the mortally offended ruling class labors to bring him down! It is to laugh...hollowly, and with many a tear.

Quickies: Pandemic Lunacy

It seems that entire cultures and nations are susceptible to fits of insanity: the persistent, unshakable belief in something that is demonstrably not so:

A clear majority of the Arab world continues to believe that Israel is the main threat in the Middle East and North Africa, a comprehensive BBC poll of 11 Arab countries revealed on Monday.

The poll — which involved interviews with over 25,000 respondents in Egypt, Sudan, Lebanon, Jordan, the Palestinian territories, Yemen, Iraq, Morocco, Libya, Tunisia and Algeria — also demonstrated that a strict social conservatism prevailed throughout the region, exemplified by a violent hatred of homosexuality.

Opposition to women holding positions of power and influence, as well as sympathy for the practice of “honor killings” — the execution of female relatives for allegedly shaming their families — remains widespread as well.

Israel is a threat? To what? To whom? Israel is a nation of nine million persons, surrounded by enemies that outnumber it twenty to one. It would have been utterly overrun by now had it not acquired nuclear weapons. What threat does it pose to its Muslim neighbors, other than the implied one of embarrassing economic and technological outperformance?

I trust I needn’t say anything about Muslims’ hatred of homosexuals and women’s emancipation. Those subjects should require no explication.

It’s time to repeat something the entire First World (and most of the rest) should already know:

Islam is toxic to human life.

Islam corrupts the rational processes of the mind. It infects its holder with convictions – and behavior – characteristic of savages. It celebrates its atrocities and clamors for more. Europe is learning the truth of this on its own hide. Americans should draw the moral.

WTF Department

There’s ignorant, there’s seriously clueless, there’s terminally stupid, and then:

The Border Patrol has already established that approximately 80% of supposed family members attempting to enter the U.S. at the southern border are not related to one another in any documented or otherwise detectable way. For my part, I would have no problem with separating those “families” even if one of their number could produce a green card. The operative concept here is trafficking. There’s a lot of it, it’s a criminal offense, and the border is exactly the right place to put a halt to it.

Miss Omar is not a microcephalic idiot. She knows this. So we must look deeper for her motives in making so outrageously false and defamatory a claim. Surely there’s a logical reason a normally patriotic American Congresswoman would…

But wait: what’s this? Ilhan Omar is a Muslim immigrant from Somalia? Then she very well could be an agent of civilizational jihad, couldn’t she? One of the folks who seek to suborn the Constitution by importing or otherwise producing a “replacement population” with no allegiance to American traditions and norms. Exactly how did such a person secure a seat in the House of Representatives?

What’s that you say? Her constituency is overwhelmingly made up of Muslims and persons of African origin? Well, all stands explained, then. Except for the motives of American immigration authorities in allowing such a district to form in the first place, of course.

The House of Representatives is currently under the control of the Traitor Quisling Democrat Party, so there’s little to no chance that Omar would be censured or otherwise disciplined for her lunacy. After all, the Democrat caucus also embraces such worthies as Rashida Tlaib, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and the truth-allergic Adam Schiff. So the only way to get Omar out of Congress is to vote her out…and given her constituency, that’s a longshot.

In recent decades the Democrats have adopted a completely anti-American stance. They react to any policy that favors American traditions, norms, or interests just as a vampire would react to a crucifix. Get it away! The era when a John F. Kennedy would vie for the presidency on a platform of strengthened American defenses are long past. So the Omars, Tlaibs, et cetera in their ranks don’t disturb them at some ideological level. Only were those persons to become electoral impediments would the party reconsider allowing them to remain in its ranks, much less lending them its support.

I sense the germ of an idea here. What if every Democrat who declares for the presidency were to face severe, unrelenting questioning about the statements and positions taken by Omar, Tlaib, and Ocasio-Cortez? Do you agree with these statements – yes or no? No other responses, no quibbling, qualifications, explanations, or exculpations shall be accepted!

Remember: No one ever won a war by playing defense. Let’s get on the attack, early and often.

A Just War

The theory of the “just war” is largely unknown to the general public. As with all concepts about justice, it attempts to draw a dividing line between wars that are morally acceptable, even mandatory, and wars that are driven by evil motives such as cupidity. It also touches upon tactics: what methods are legitimate in conducting a just war, and what methods are morally proscribed. As with many other elements of moral-ethical theory, the Catholic Church has been in the forefront of just-war theory for many decades.

Now that the Church and Christianity itself are under attack by a worldwide force determined to destroy them, the time has come to answer some important questions. Start from the following premise: the pope – not necessarily Jorge Bergoglio – has declared that the Church is at war with that force.

  1. How are the allegiants of that force to be identified, ideologically or strategically?
  2. Would taking up arms against them – actual weapons of war and destruction, not just talk – be justified?
  3. What tactics would be morally acceptable in conducting the war?

     We begin.

0. Can you make war on an ideology?

Before we address the questions enumerated above, let’s dispose of a canard that would otherwise hamper the discussion. The notion that “you can’t fight a war against an ideology / belief system / conviction / opinion” has been widely promulgated in recent years. It first received circulation during the Cold War years, when our principal foe was communism. More recently its importance has derived from the position of Islam in the array of anti-Western and anti-Christian forces.

This misconceives the nature of war. War is not a thing apart from all other things, a phenomenon aloof from all other aspects of existence. War doesn’t simply “happen now and then.” War is a method: a technique for pursuing a goal, chosen by persons who believe it will get them what they want at an acceptable cost.

Some wars are ideological in nature. They’re initiated to elevate one belief system over another, or to impose it on unwilling others. Many of the wars of pre-Napoleonic Europe were ideological wars. Some were fought between contending religious doctrines. Others were fought over principles of royal succession. The Treaties of Westphalia and the Congress of Vienna were in large part animated by the desire to put an end to such wars.

An ideological war can be quite as bloody – and quite as conclusive – as any war for gain. Yes, the wars for gain of the Twentieth Century were the bloodiest conflicts in history, at least if we go by body counts, but that’s because those wars were fought with weapons of unprecedented killing power in the hands of armies of millions. A contemporary ideological war could reap casualties quite as copiously. Depending upon how it’s fought, it could be just as conclusive as the Allied Powers’ defeat of the Nazi Axis.

So let’s not waste our time on whether one can fight a war in defense of a belief system. When the enemies of our belief system – specifically, Christianity – are already openly at war with us, our alternatives are somewhat limited.

1. How are our enemies to be identified?

     They tend to identify themselves:

  • Their more militant allegiants mount physical attacks against Christians and Christian institutions;
  • Their other allegiants defend the overarching ideology from the identification of its role.

Consider in this light what happened on the one occasion that President George W. Bush cited Islamism as the core driver of terrorism. CAIR and other Muslim mouthpiece groups immediately assailed him, with the connivance of the Legacy Media, as calling for a war against Islam. Dubya immediately backed away from his statement. He and his political strategists didn’t want to deal with the flak from the matter, even though it emanated from a relatively small number of institutions. Yet Islam explicitly commands violent jihad against all “unbelievers,” among which it numbers Christians and Jews most prominently. “Islamist” is merely a convenient term for those who act on Islam’s politico-religious imperialism.

2. Would taking up arms against them be justified?

The core of just-war theory is that shooting back is always justified. The aggressor is responsible for what happens afterward. The problems involved in dealing with the ideologists and apologists of an aggressive ideology are more complex.

At this time, a bare handful of Islamic militants have emerged in the United States. Up to now, when they’ve revealed themselves, we’ve pursued them through the justice system. It’s acceptably workable…at present. However, if the U.S. were to experience Islam-powered violence and vandalism on the scale already suffered by France and England, it would be necessary to abandon that approach for a more military one aimed at quelling the insurrection. That would necessarily involve shutting down Islam’s support networks, whether or not their organizers and supporters were provably involved in the violence.

3. What tactics would be morally acceptable?

Those who make war against Christianity are diffusely distributed among us, but concentrated in a handful of other nations. Thus, the problem is twofold.

In conducting the domestic conflict, Americans determined to defend Christianity against its Islamic attackers must use discretion. As L. Neil Smith has observed, a diffuse threat can only be countered with a diffuse defense. Moreover, the law will extend no tolerance to any organized effort to extirpate the as-yet-“innocent” Muslims among us: they who confine themselves to words and agitations. Yet they can be opposed, and not merely with words of our own.

The key is to make their continued existence within our borders intolerable:

  • Socially,
  • Economically,
  • Politically.

Ostracism, refusing to have commerce with them, and opposing them politically by every legal means, especially giving true and accurate coloration to their aims, will do the trick.

Yes, there are some legal problems, but were millions of American Christians to act approximately in concert – refusing ever to buy from, sell to, or employ a Muslim – the federal government would be powerless to do anything about it, no matter how ardently the Left and the Deep State might wish otherwise.

Concerning the external concentrations of our enemies – i.e., the Islamic states of the world – in the absence of aggressive acts by their subjects against the U.S., American citizens, or Americans’ property, the same approach could be applied:

  • Terminate all diplomatic contacts with those nations;
  • Embargo all trade with those nations;
  • Oppose the Islamic governments of those nations at every opportunity.

This of course requires command of the political system – but once again, were American Christians to act in reasonable concert, eyes unclouded by specious notions about “compassion” and “fairness,” it could be done.

4. The Left and what to do about it.

It has become painfully clear that the American Left sees Islam as a useful if unwitting collaborator in its efforts to destroy American social, economic, and political norms. That leagues the organized Left with our overt enemies de facto. It suggests that similar tactics can be used to bring it to heel.

Yes, millions of Americans consider themselves left of center. However, few of those, if challenged directly on their fundamental allegiance, would side openly with Islam and its ideology of world conquest. (They’d probably protest that “you can’t fight a war against an ideology,” for which see section number 1 above.) These “weak tea” left-liberals can be shamed out of opposition, just as they were after September 11, 2001, if American Christians can remain united and resolute. The full-blooded enemies of the Republic are the Left’s strategists, tacticians, and public mouthpieces. These must face the same weapons we must bring to bear against their Islamic analogues. Once again, the legal difficulties can be surmounted with a sufficient degree of concurrence among American Christians.

5. Non-Christian sects other than Islam.

Given that 74% of Americans self-identify as Christians, some 26% remain to be considered. Yes, by the numbers as well as historically, America is a Christian nation. However, extending our tolerance to that which is tolerable is an essential of Christian ethics. Those 26% must be accommodated to the maximum possible extent: i.e., short of allowing them to take up our enemies’ cause.

I wouldn’t expect American Jews to pose a problem, despite their historical allegiance with the increasingly left-wing Democrat Party. Neither would Buddhists, Hindus, Shintoists, Taoists, Hare Krishnas, or Amiable Agnostics be a cause for concern. Militant atheists, who’ve made the Christian faith their favorite target for several decades, would be required to show their true color…and in the preponderance of cases that color would be yellow. However, as long as they stay out of the conflict, these too could be ignored.

Coda.

There’s a certain amount of “throwing out the rule book” involved in the above. The major “rule” that must be set aside is that of treating individuals as individuals, disassociated from the crimes of those who share their anti-Christian ideology and have acted on its dictates. The relevant insight here was provided by none other than the greatest butcher in human history, Mao Tse-tung:

“The people are the sea in which the revolutionary swims.”

By “the people,” Mao meant the ideologically allied, not the undifferentiated mass of the people. Though they commit no violence themselves, the ideologically allied provide concealment, sustenance, and “human shields” to the insurgent. This cannot be tolerated.

Are nine tenths of the Muslims who attend some particular mosque innocent of personal misdeeds? Irrelevant, just as Brigitte Gabriel said in the video I embedded yesterday. They are enablers and supporters of our more active enemies, whether voluntary or coerced. It’s like dealing with a pest species; the best way to clean it out is to destroy its habitat: the environmental conditions that support its flourishing. Supposedly innocent and peaceable Muslims are the jihadist’s habitat, and must be routed out of the country.

Yes, it’s a harsh prescription from start to finish. I don’t like it much, but it’s being forced upon us. Feel free to suggest another.

     Deus vult.
