Persistence.

I do believe I would have given him a more permanent reminder of his transgression. Not full "shariah" on his dominant hand, but perhaps re-arranging the carpel and meta-carpal bones just a bit so that cold or stormy weather would give him cause to remember he had made a very bad choice.

When i was a piece officer, even though we ran three and five mile runs for endurance almost every day for the last two months of the academy, as a smoker (quit back in '84), I _hated_ running. If I hung on long enough to catch a runner, I almost always arranged a "teaching moment". Never physical abuse - I wasn't wired that way - but a strong talk including dire threats of bodily harm if he ever made me run again. They never knew if I was serious or not.

I couldn't catch a fast turtle at my age and in my condition, but as a civilian, I don't feel the need to be as righteous and upstanding as I did when I was expected to "protect and serve", not abuse, the civilians I worked for - even the bad guys. (Although I do recall having fantasies about what might happen if I caught a rapist or child molester in the act.)

Beautiful! And all too rare instant justice.

That was gorgeous. I could never have sustained that pace, and my hat's off to the pursuer. Only thing I would have done differently would have been to not call the police. The perp could lie there until he regained consciousness, if he ever did.

The thief was pretty tired when he effected his under-powered date with divine retribution.

Hat's off to the pursuer. Would that I had that kind of pep these days but I get out of breath playing tug of war with the dog.
