One of the most difficult of all life lessons to internalize thoroughly is the all-important one about essential indifference. It is crippling to concern oneself too broadly or deeply with what others are doing...unless, of course, what they're doing has a direct and unavoidable effect on you personally. You must accept that when not caring is appropriate, it is vital not to care. Failure to absorb this bit of sturdy wisdom can result in hypertension, ulcers, chronic irritability, social ostracism, and being known as a Curmudgeon. Verbum sat sapienti.
